3 Lever 1: Injecting Lift Gas as deep as possible Traditional approach employs IPO unloading valves 2014 Gas-Lift Workshop 3

4 Factors which constrain lift gas depths: When using traditional unloading valves IPO valve pressure rating An IPO set at 5000 ft TVD will see > 5000 psi during a 3000 psi seawater pressure test. Injection pressure sacrifice Available injection pressure typically reduced by 100 psi to close successive IPO s Both of these factors will often results in lift gas not reaching packer depth 2014 Gas-Lift Workshop 4

7 Lever 2: Eliminating Gas Lift Well Interventions Current Reasons For Gas Lift Well Interventions Dummy Dummy Wireline ops to pull dummy valves and install GLV s IPO 1 GLV Wireline ops pull GLV from station /dummy from station 3 and replace with IPO and GLV IPO 1 IPO 2 Dummy Dummy GLV Completion Running: Dummy GLV s in SPM s to facilitate annulus pressure test after setting packer Initial Production: High reservoir pressure often means you can t get lift gas to lowest SPM Subsequent Production: As reservoir pressure falls you can get lift gas to lowest SPM 2014 Gas-Lift Workshop 7

9 Gas Lift well intervention challenges Gas Lift valves are installed in side pocket mandrels Require the use of kick over tool to install / retrieve Significant mis-runs frequency especially in deviated wells Cannot be accessed using wireline in highly deviated wells

10 Lever 2: Eliminating Slickline Runs Replace dummy valves with Shearable GLV s Before the shear pin has been broken, the valve operates as a fully closed dummy Once the shear pin has been broken it operates as a normal valve Annulus pressure sheared for single valve applications Tubing pressure sheared for multiple valve ie IPO applications Vs Atmospheric chamber Dummy IPO 1 No need for wireline ops to pull dummy valves and install GLV s IPO 1 Dummy IPO 2 IPO 2 Dummy GLV GLV

11 Lever 2: Eliminating Slickline Runs: IPO (or HPO) valves used as operating valves New design of unloading valve is hydrodynamically invisible when open Can be used as operating valves No need to run dedicated shallow GLV s at early field life No need to intervene to replace as P res declines Can now change lift gas depth without changing out the gas lift valves With greater certainty when using the HPO IPO 1 GLV No need for wireline ops to change operating station IPO 1 IPO 2 Dummy GLV 11

12 12 Lever 2: Eliminating Slickline Runs Hydraulic Pressure Operated (HPO) Unloading Valves Single Hydraulic Control Line Connected to all valves Casing SPM s with/ HPO Valves Installed Since the bellows is not opened by the annulus pressure No need for dummy valves or shearable valves Production Tubing

13 Lever 3: Gas Lift well interventions Dual Barrier SPM s Well integrity retained during primary valve change outs Eliminates need for wireline runs to install a deep-set plug Eliminates tubing>annulus U tubing Secondary check valve can be replaced via wireline intervention Eliminates need for full workover in the event of secondary check valve failure 13
