You have purchased an EAGLE Dental compressor by Sierra Dental Products, LLC! We offer 24/7 Technical Support at and are here to support you with general questions, installation, maintenance, site requirements, and anything else! 1. INTRODUCTION Sierra Dental Products, LLC recommends reading this Operator s Manual before installation and operation of this equipment. This will help you to optimize the product performance, guarantee safe operation and guide you on equipment preventative maintenance. For your safety use only Sierra Dental Products original parts. 2. INSPECTION Inspect for signs of obvious freight damage. Report any damage to the delivering freight carrier immediately. Be sure that all damaged parts are replaced and any mechanical problems are corrected prior to the operation of the air compressor. The air compressor serial number is located below the left motor on the front of the tank. Please write the serial number in the space provided in the Service section of this manual for future reference. 3. APPLICATIONS Sierra Dental Products, LLC air compressors must only be used for air compression up to the maximum pressure indicated in this manual. 4. 4 5. EAGLE COMRESSOR PART BREAKDOWN & 7 1. Compressor Heads Receives and compresses the air 2. Air Receiver (Tank) Stores the compressed air 3. Electric Motor Spins the crank shaft (Direct Drive) 2 4. Pressure Switch Controls the compressor s operation to avoid surpassing the maximum operating pressure and to maintain sufficient operating pressure ASME Safety Valve Blow off valve that exhausts the tank in case the pressure is above the maximum allowed 135 psi 6. Coalescing Filter Removes condensed water that is inside the air lines (automatic drain) 7. Pressure Gauge Shows the current pressure inside the tank in psig or bar 8 8. Intake Filter Filters atmospheric air impurities that are received by the compressor Identification Tag Displays the EAGLE s serial number Electrical Power Cord Used to connect the compressor to a 230V electric power supply 12. Air Muffler and Auto Purge 230V Solenoid automatically purges the air from the lines and desiccant dryer when tank reaches full capacity Desiccant Dryer Dries the incoming air before entering the tank Remote Air Intake Connect a flexible airline to a cooler location. This is where the air is received into the compressor system. 17. Discharge Connection Connected to the main air lines to supply compressed air (Do Not Open when tank pressure exceeds 10 psi) 18. Drain Petcock Removes the condensed water that is inside the tank 19. Remote Wires 24V Remote Wires ready to connect to a low voltage remote switch 3

5 6. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ATTENTION: When improperly used, an air compressor can cause physical and material damage. Please, follow the recommendations below to avoid this. Alerts users of important operating and maintenance instructions. Read carefully to avoid any problems Warns users of a potentially hot surface, and a danger of burns Warns users that uninsulated voltage is present and can cause electric shock WARNING: TO PREVENT FIRE OR ELECTRICAL SHOCK, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS UNIT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE, EXCESSIVE HEAT OR IMPROPER VENTILATION 4

6 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS - CONTINUED 1. IMPORTANT - This equipment: a. Has hot, electrical, and moving parts; b. May start or stop automatically, depending on the tank s pressure or the tripping of electrical protection elements; c. May cause mechanical or electrical interferences in nearby equipment; d. Must not be operated in places where non-authorized people, children, or animals may have access; e. Requires an authorized person to supervise its use and ensure proper maintenance; f. Must be installed and operated in areas well ventilated and protected against humidity and water; g. Must be installed and operated in areas that do not exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Never exceed the maximum pressure of 115 psi. 3. Before any maintenance, be sure the equipment is unplugged and not energized. 4. Never change the adjustment of the safety valve or pressure switch. They are factory regulated and any adjustments out in the field could void your warranty. If any adjustments to the pressure switch is needed, call your authorized dealer for Sierra Dental Products. 5. Never perform welding jobs or repairs on the air pressure tank because this can affect its resistance or disguise more serious problems. If there is any leakage, crack, or corrosion, immediately stop operating the equipment and contact your authorized dealer for Sierra Dental Products. 6. In case of an inspection, the user of this product must keep the pressure vessel book, provided by the manufacturer, available and attached to the other safety documents for as long as the vessel is used until it is disposed of. 7. Air compression is a heat generating process. The pump unit and tubes are subject to high temperatures. Therefore, one must be careful when handling them in order to avoid burns. 8. Before connecting the compressor to a power supply, verify that all electrical fittings are tight. 9. Never use solvents to clean your compressor. a. The use of solvents or paint accumulation may cause explosion risks and irreversible damage to the product in general. Cleaning products and the environment may not contain solvents. 10. Do not remove the attached accessories when the compressor is pressurized. Do not clean or touch the electric components without unplugging the compressor from the electrical power supply. Not following the orientations may cause physical and material damage. 11. In case of any irregularities with the equipment, stop operating it immediately and contact your authorized dealer for Sierra Dental Products. 5

7 7. INSTALLATION GUIDE 1. Location: Install the compressor in a covered, well ventilated area, free of dust, gases, toxic gases, humidity, or any other kind of pollutant. The maximum ambient temperature recommended during operation is 100 degrees Fahrenheit. a. IMPORTANT: Avoid installation in such places as a storeroom, garage, or bathroom. 2. Position: Mount at least 32 inches (800mm) from any obstacle, to allow good ventilation during operation and to make maintenance easier. a. Compressor Installation: When connected to the air network, the discharge connection must be joined by means of a hose or expansible gaskets so that the charges, thermal expansion, piping s weight, mechanical and thermal shocks or obstructions are not transmitted to the air tank. Physical damage to the compressed air tank may occur if the above warnings are not followed. 3. Foundation/Floor: The compressor must be placed on a concrete base, which must be able to bear the equipment s weight. The equipment must be level. The compressor is equipped with rubber feet (Assembled by installer) See figure 2 and 3 below. 4. Electric Connection: a. Consult a specialized electrician to evaluate the electrical power supply and to select the adequate protections and input devices, and to perform the installation service. b. See Table 2 below for electrical orientation. RUBBER FEET INSTALLTION 6

8 INSTALLATION CONTINUED 5. The electrical input wires must be in accordance to the motor power, voltage and distance from electrical energy source. (See Table 2 for orientation on page 6) 6. Before installing the product, verify that the product voltage is compatible to the local electrical power supply (In the case of VAC Use of a Buck Booster may be necessary). 7. In order to avoid electrical shock, a grounding installation must be provided. 8. For your safety, a circuit breaker/fuse must be installed per Table 2, depending on your model). 9. Grounding Instructions: This product must be grounded in the event of an electrical short circuit or insulation failure, the grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing an escape wire for the electric current. This product is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire. Make sure that the product is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and regulations. a. WARNING: The incorrect installation of the grounding wire connector may result in an electric shock. If it is necessary to replace or repair both the cable and the connector, do not connect or join the grounding wire to the neutral wire or any other. The green wire, with or without yellow stripes, is only to the grounding function. In case of doubts regarding the grounding information or whether the product is properly grounded, make sure you contact a qualified electrician to verify the connections. b. The thermal protector is located inside the electrical motor. This will shut the electric motor off automatically. - INSTALLATION EXPENSES ARE OF PURCHASER S RESPONSIBILITY 8. START UP PROCEDURE After the arrangements regarding location, the pressure vase adequacy to local Technical Regulations and Legislations and the installation of the electrical network and the compressed air network are done (customer s responsibility), perform the following start up procedure: 1. Completely open pressure regulators to relieve the tank of any pressure. 2. Flip both control box switches ON and check if the rotation direction is anti-clockwise, viewed from fan. 3. Let the compressor run for about ten (10) minutes to allow a homogeneous lubrication of the moving parts. 4. Totally close the pressure regulator, so that the compressor can fill up the tank. The compressor will automatically turn off when the pressure gauge shows maximum pressure around 115 psig. 5. Open the pressure regulator to release the compressed air from the tank, to decrease its internal pressure. The compressor will automatically restart when the pressure gauge shows pressure around 85 psig. 6. Close the pressure regulator and unplug the equipment. 7. Verify if ASME safety valve is working. 8. Open drain petcock to exhaust the tank s condensed water and close it right after. a. WARNING: The tank should not be drained if the pressure is greater than 10 psig. 9. Open the pressure regulator to completely exhaust the tank, then close it. Your EAGLE Compressor is ready to operate. Connect it to the air distribution network and start the electric motor. When the compressor reaches maximum pressure, open discharge valve so that the air can flow into the 7

9 distribution network. Check if there is any leakage along the tubing, by using water and soap lather. In case there is any, eliminate it before proceeding. NOTE: This initial start-up procedure must be repeated each time maintenance occurs or when the compressor is moved to another location. 9. PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE In order to guarantee the compressor s perfect operation and to extend its life, please follow these recommendations below: 1. Monthly a. Check the operation of the pressure switch, by performing the start-up procedure b. Drain the condensed water from the tank, through drain petcock (The tank s pressure must not be greater than 10 psig) c. Check for abnormal noise or vibration. If the problem persists after the following corrective actions are taken, contact your local authorized dealer for Sierra Dental Products d. Check the intake filter. When an intake filter is clogged it is necessary that it be replaced. Contact your local authorized dealer for Sierra Dental Products for replacement filters Do Not Wash the Filter Element 2. Quarterly a. Change the intake filter elements every three hundred (300) hours or quarterly (whichever occurs first) b. Tighten pump unit bolts with a torque meter and nuts (See Table 3) c. Clean the compressor s external surface with neutral part detergent and a wet cloth d. Verify the operation of the ASME safety valve 3. Every 6 Months a. Lubricate connecting rods upper bearing, with L55/2 Lube 4. Every 9 Months or 1000 hours (whichever occurs first) a. Inspect and clean the valves (located between the cylinder s upper part and its head) b. Replace connecting rod(s) lower bearing c. Replace rings on the piston (Especially if fill time is 20%+ higher than what is specified) 5. Annually a. Have the pressure switch, pressure gauge and ASME safety valve calibrated, either by an official institution or according to the Local Technical Regulations. This operation must be carried out by a device not coupled to the tank. IMPORTANT: Switch OFF the air compressor, remove the water and exhaust the air from the tank at the end of every working day. 8

11 THE WARRANTY FOR YOUR EAGLE OIL-LESS COMPRESSOR (EGL-12) IS LIMITED TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE UNIT. SIERRA DENTAL PRODUCTS IS ONLY OBLIGATED UNDER THIS WARRANTY TO THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS OR MATERIALS. THE DEFECT(S) MUST BE REPORTED TO SIERRA DENTAL PRODUCTS WITHIN THE VALID WARRANTY PERIOD. SIERRA DENTAL PRODUCTS WILL EXAMINE THE PRODUCT TO DETERMINE IF THE PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE. PRODUCTS THAT HAVE BEEN ABUSED, NEGLECTED, OR DAMAGED BY BEING IMPROPERLY INSTALLED ARE NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WORK PERFORMED ON THE UNIT BY ANY UNAUTHORIZED SERVICE AGENTS. WARRANTY PERIOD WARRANTY IS VALIDATED ONLY WITH THE RETURN OF THE WARRANTY CARD WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE FOR A PERIOD OF 3 YEARS. WARRANTY SERVICE AND RETURN POLICY TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE, THE PRODUCT MUST BE RETURNED TO SIERRA DENTAL PRODUCTS FOR EXAMINATION AT THE PURCHASER S EXPENSE. ALL RETURNS MUST BE AUTHORIZED AND A RETURN AUTHORIZATION (RA #) NUMBER MUST BE OBTAINED FROM SIERRA DENTAL PRODUCTS. RETURNED UNITS MUST BE PROPERLY PACKAGE FOR SHIPPING. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING DAMAGES AND SHIPPING CHARGES.
