2 Nordic Naturals: A Responsible Choice for the Environment Nordic Naturals exclusively uses three species of fish, none of which are overfished or endangered. They are: n Arctic cod (not Atlantic cod or Rock cod) n Anchovies n Sardines All of our Arctic cod are harvested from the lush straits between the Lofoten islands, outside of Bodø, Norway. Likewise, our anchovies and sardines are harvested from the South Pacific and the Norwegian Sea, which are considered the world s healthiest oceans. The United Nations estimates that three-quarters of the planet s fish stocks around the world are fished to their maximum limits or already exhausted. 3 Overfishing Hot Spots According to the Norwegian Ministry of Fishing and Scientific American, the world s current overfishing hot spots are: n Eastern Canada, Newfoundland, The Davis Strait and Southwest Greenland n Southeast America-the Falkland Islands and coastal Argentina n The Atlantic Peninsula n Antarctica (below South Africa) n The Mozambique Channel n The Arabian Sea n Southeast Australia Declining Species n Swordfish n Atlantic cod (not Arctic cod) n Tuna (larger species) n Groupers n Atlantic Flounders and Soles n Monkfish n King Crab n Shark (larger species)

4 Arctic Cod While there have been concerns regarding overfishing of Atlantic and Rock cod, it is important to note that scientists have found that Arctic cod are in fact flourishing. Numerous articles issued by the Norwegian Ocean Research Institute (NORC) and other organizations have documented a plentiful, healthy supply of Arctic cod. According to the NORC, over 600,000 metric tons of newborn Arctic cod will be added annually to Norwegian waters, increasing Norwegian quotas for mature Arctic cod to more than 350,000 metric tons. 5 Certifications Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program Nordic Naturals is pursuing a certification with the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program. This association is a successful partnership of environmental agencies, utilities and nonprofit organizations that assist, recognize and promote businesses and government agencies which operate in an environmentally responsible way. This green certification will verify that Nordic Naturals is in compliance with all regulations and adheres to program standards for conserving resources, preventing pollution and minimizing waste. For instance, in the coming months we will enhance our paper waste-management programs, transition to water-conservation practices and optimize energy use with power-saving electronics and light bulbs.
