2 Sterling says We have our Grooming Maintenance Seminar coming up September and we could handle a couple more attendees, so call or right away if you want to join us. The service schedule is pretty full till mid-november, but if you have questions or want to get on the schedule please call. This month I want to talk about some things that I have seen this season: 1.) Damaged glass or plexiglass windows, see below photos. Windows are not very expensive to replace, if you already have it here for service you should consider replacing damaged windows. In our application these can really take a beating from tree limbs and weather. 2.) Rust aka corrosion, see below photo. Because of the environment these machines are exposed to metal corrosion, and it is always looking for a place to start. We protect the metal surfaces with either primer and high quality paint or powder coating, however the best of these is only going to last so long. If corrosion gets started then you need to take measures to control it, there are some good products on the market to do this (rust deactivators and epoxy primers) and we would be happy to share that info if want to give us a call. PLEXIGLASS PLEXIGLASS CORROSION 3.) Overheating coolant. First check to see if objects are covering the radiator, we need 8 of space between objects (cargo or tool boxes) and the radiator, see below photo. We use sucker fans and they will be starved if the radiator is blocked by tool boxes, too many pine needles, dirt, and or smoke particulates from a smoking engine. If you use a winter radiator cover make sure it is properly adjusted. 4.) Radiator support rods and fan shroud. In the past we used radiator support rods to correctly position the radiator and in relation to the fan, see below photo. If these rods became loose then the clearances could change and cause problems, check to make sure these are tight and adjusted properly. The correct position of the fan blade is 1/3rd of the width out side of the shroud and 2/3rds inside, and about 1/2-3/4 clearance between the blade and shroud edge, see below photo. The physical address is 2872 South Pacific Hwy., Medford, OR The seminar will consist of but not limited to the following: Overview of the production process Service and maintenance tips Cummins Northwest presentation Allison Transmission presentation Factory tour Question and answer Shop time The cost is $ per person. This includes coffee and doughnuts in the mornings and lunch both days. Participants are responsible for their travel, lodging and other meals. All participants must wear leather work boots and pants that cover the full length of the leg to participate in the factory tour and shop times. All participants will be given a brief safety procedure lesson before entering the work areas. Safety glasses are required in all work areas and will be supplied by Tucker SNO-CAT.
