3 AN AMAZING STORY Originally the vision of a pioneer, Erwin Eckl, the resort of Les Saisies continues to develop year after year. Over the past 3 years the resort has invested more than 30 million euro in new public amenities. Dynamic and sporty, with an Olympic reputation in the Nordic field and superb downhill ski slopes linked to the Espace Diamant ski area, Les Saisies is an all round winter sports resort. The resort s ambassadors? Renowned athletes, Franck Piccard, triple Olympic medalist in alpine skiing and Raphaël Poirée, 8 times World Biathlon Champion, are proud to personify the values of Les Saisies. In their wake: Clara Direz - winner of the Youth Olympics in 2012, the biathlete Justine Braisaz silver medalist at the 2015 World Championships in Finland and Emilie Lecomte, regional ambassadrice for the Beaufortain one of France s top trail runners who will represent the resort at this year s annual Christmas trail race. From Erwin Eckl to the birth of Les Saisies: The story of Les Saisies dates back to 1935 when Erwin Eckl, an Austrian ski instructor, discovered the area by happenstance. His visionary spirit and pioneer attitude enabled him to foresee the potential here. A year later he built the first hotel in the middle of snow-covered fields, at the foot of Mont Bisanne. Equipped with a kitchen, 5 bedrooms and a dormitory for up to 30 people, he installed water and electricity and transported supplies by foot or by dog sled. A pioneer of winter sports, he took his clients ski touring to the summits of Bisanne, Char du Beurre and La Legette. In 1946, under his leadership, the first drag lift was installed on the mountain pass next to his hotel. Extremely successful, it guaranteed the development of his family-run business. In 1963, Les Saisies purchased Erwin Eckl s drag lift (the mythical Bisanne drag). This marked the birth of the ski resort and the start of development. Before the opening of the slopes, the ski patrollers carry out a safety run and check the signpost system. A privileged few are invited to make fresh tracks with them. 6 NORDIC ADVENTURES Enjoy a unique experience and live the life of a Rocky mountain trapper Following the success of last winter, the Amerindian trappers are back in Les Saisies. Tents, camp fires, hunting tools, charms, goods and furs the reconstitution is amazing! Period costume, traditional meals, finger weaving, woodworking and the picture is complete! 7 New NORDIC SKI TESTS BY GLISSHOP For the first time this winter, the n 1 website, glisshop.com, launches a Nordic ski section in association with the biathlon champion Simon Fourcade. Equipment tests in partnership with major brands such as Salomon, Fischer and Rossignol will be organized on the Nordic ski area in Les Saisies at the same time as introductory biathlon sessions. Her educational approach enables her to transmit her passion via introductory mushing courses and discovery rides. 10 LES SAISIES & NATURE New Les Saisies, winners of the Eco-friendly Snow Grooming Challenge 2016 The aim? To optimize the production of artificial snow, to make the right amount of snow and therefore avoid wasting energy and water. Michel Frison-Roche, the Director of the management company hopes to prove within four years, that it is profitable to invest in a snow-grooming optimization programme resulting in a significant positive impact on the environment. The resort was rewarded for its project to merge two computer interfaces, artificial snow production and snow-grooming. The management company in Les Saisies advocates better communication between these two very different services, one working throughout the day, the other throughout the night. New Snow for the Tour de France! Unbelievable: Franck Piccard skiing on real snow during the passage of thetour de France in Les Saisies on 22 nd July 2016! Proof that the resort challenge is underway to ensure optimal snow conditions through a new unique snow storage process. For the 2018 season, an 800 to 1000 m circuit will be created in the biathlon area using a method based on a mix of sawdust. The snow remaining at the end of the season, together with a certain amount of artificial snow on site, will be covered in sawdust to protect it from the outdoor elements and insulate it from the air and the sun. 30 new snowmakers This winter the resort improves its artificial snowmaking network by adding 30 new snowmakers to the ski area. Particular attention is being paid to the Chevreuils slope, due to benefit from 20 new snowmakers. These new technology snowmakers contribute to the control and limitation of the resort s energy consumption and carbon footprint.

11 Unique Environmental Observatory The ski lift management company in Les Saisies is in the process of setting up an environmental observatory across the ski area in the aim to obtain deeper environmental knowledge and anticipate future development. The goal is to minimize the environmental impact and preserve the richness and fragility of the alpine surroundings. Surveys on fauna, flora, water, landscape, interaction with agricultural activities and summer activities are being carried out. Different areas of moderate to high environmental concern will be defined for future reference. After several years commitment to sustainable development, Les Saisies officially obtained the ISO certification in February 2012, attesting the conformity of its policies and activities to the recent standards established by the International Organization for Standardization. A real achievement for the resort that actively campaigns in favour of the environment. ECO-FRIENDLY ACTIONS: Optimization of the snowmaking network in an aim to reduce air consumption and therefore electricity. Additive free artificial snow. Snow grooming machines equipped with satellite guidance systems: 8% less time spent on piste = less fuel consumption. Training of the team in eco-friendly driving techniques. Tenders for development work integrate a number of criteria for sustainable development. Regular clean-up campaigns in collaboration with the neighbouring town of Ugine in an aim to make youngsters more aware. Dry toilets and waste rubbish bins on the ski area. Awareness campaigns for all staff (permanent and seasonal) to encourage an eco-friendly attitude. Returfing and completion of works on the access to the Nordic ski area. Sale of pocket ashtrays. NATURE-FRIENDLY ACTIONS: Carbon Assessment A fuel replacement programme for snow grooming machines. New less polluting diesel fuel is now used. The water used to wash snow grooming machines and other vehicles is also collected. Re-turfing of the ski slopes in summer. Electricity cables are being progressively buried. Protection of wild birds such as Tetra Lyre (certain areas are forbidden to skiers). Marking of cables on some ski lifts to limit bird collision. An environmental protection order (Natura 2000) concerning the peat bogs in the Nordic area. The garage of a residence for seasonal staff now houses the 6 shuttle buses in the aim to reduce the carbon impact of repeat journeys from Albertville to Les Saisies. Enjoy the great outdoors!#10/11

13 Le Signal, POOL COMPLEX & LEISURE CENTRE Ready, steady, dive! Its unique architecture and glass frontage offer maximum sunlight and breathtaking 360 views of the surrounding mountains. A hypoxic chamber UNIQUE in France The new leisure centre houses a hypoxic chamber, unique in France. According to INSEP - a hypoxic chamber artificially recreates the conditions at altitude. For a top-level athlete, simulated altitude helps to stimulate hematologic, respiratory and metabolic adaptations designed to increase ones level of performance. According to INSEP, a course in a hypoxic chamber improves performance for up to three weeks. The GMHM (high mountain military group), Chambéry Savoie Handball, Guillaume Bonnafond (professional cyclist), Nicolas Roux (cyclo Ambassador for Les Saisies) and Tahar Manai (the first Tunisan mountaineer to climb Everest), use this chamber for physical training purposes. Le 1650 Bowling Alley - Bar - Restaurant Le 1650 is a 10 pin bowling alley with 6 lanes. Its restaurant boasts panoramic views and non-stop service.
