1 Base camp program guide ASPEN VALLEY SKI & SNOWBOARD CLUB

2 First steps, AVSC style.

3 Dear AVSC families, I am thrilled to share our Base Camp program guide; a sign that winter is on its way! Since the close of last season, the AVSC staff has been hard at work reimagining our programs and ensuring that we are providing the best experience possible to all athletes, whether they are clicking into skis or a snowboard for the first time or vying for an Olympic roster spot. Please note that the programs listed in this guide are largely our recreational Base Camp offerings. We ve included a small sampling of our introductory level TEAM programs in the back of this guide as well. We look forward to seeing many new faces in our Base Camp programs and welcoming back even more returning skiers and snowboarders for another fun season. Our commitment to awarding scholarships in order to honor our mission of giving every child in the Roaring Fork Valley access to the mountains is stronger than ever; it is our hope that anyone who grows up in this incredible community is able to experience and enjoy the mountains that we call home! our mission The mission of the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club is to provide all youth in the greater Roaring Fork Valley the opportunity to excel as athletes and as people through winter sports. When you register for programs, you will notice we have changed our online registration platform. We think you will find this system more userfriendly. Once you have created a user account, you will have the ability to sign forms electronically, create payment plans, and more. It is our hope that this system will streamline communications as well. We are excited that the new system will also allow us to significantly cut down on our paper usage and therefore reduce our environmental impact. The season was my first as Executive Director of Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club. When my family and I moved to Aspen last summer, I knew that this community and Club were special. One year later, I am reminded daily of the unique heritage, environment, staff, and families that we have at AVSC. I look forward to another great season with all of you. our values Commitment, Teamwork, and Integrity Best, Mark Godomsky AVSC Executive Director thank you to our sponsors METROPOLITAN DISTRICT AVSC WOULD LIKE TO THANK FIVE TREES. THE FIVE TREES LIFT IS A PRIVATE LIFT OWNED BY THE FIVE TREES METROPOLITAN DISTRICT. AVSC, OUR ATHLETES, AND OUR SUPPORTERS WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT USE OF THIS LIFT IS FUNDED IN LARGE PART BY CONTRIBUTIONS FROM FIVE TREES. THANK YOU!

5 AVSC believes that winter sports should be open to all children in the Roaring Fork Valley, and it s our mission to make that happen. We offer need-based scholarships for all AVSC programs except Aspenauts, Powder Pandas, Bighorns, SnoBandits, and Cross Over. No pre-school or kindergarten-aged kids are eligible for scholarships. Our 2017 scholarship deadline is October 20 th, You will need to submit your completed registration and scholarship application, complete with a $100 deposit, by this date to be considered for a scholarship. We don t work alone. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but when it comes to giving 2,300 local children access to winter sports programming and providing over $1M in scholarships and subsidies, it truly takes a valley. AVSC is able to subsidize our programs thanks to the support of our generous donors and sponsors, who share our drive to make skiing and snowboarding affordable to all children in the Roaring Fork Valley. If you are interested in learning more about the many ways you can support AVSC, please contact AVSC s Development Director, Miah Wheeler (mwheeler@teamavsc.org / ). IT S MORE THAN A SKI CLUB IT S A BUILDING BLOCK FOR YOUNG LIVES. ANDY MILL, OLYMPIAN AVSC hosts a few in-person registration nights throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. 8 about nordic base camp Nordic Base Camp Programs are fun, learn-to-ski programs geared towards children ages 5-13 interested in nordic skiing. The emphasis will be on fostering a love for the sport and enjoying winter in the Roaring Fork Valley. Children will develop basic motor skills invaluable to their future athletic involvement. Skills such as coordination, agility, and balance will be taught through a variety of games and activities. As children progress through the Base Camp programs they will learn teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, and other essential habits common among successful adolescents. Participants will be coached by an experienced staff that is dedicated to the safety and success of its participants. Scholarships are available for these programs. All athletes for all programs must have warm clothes, a water bottle and holder at every practice. Base Camp jackets will be available to order at our Nordic Fit Night (September 25th, 5-7:30pm at AVSC), which is also your best opportunity to purchase and/or rent affordable high quality gear.
