1 Canadian Ski Patrol System Strategic Plan Canadian Ski Patrol System Mission, Vision and Focus CSPS Vision Statement The CSPS strives to be the premier safety and first aid organization serving outdoor sports and recreation in Canada CSPS Mission Statement To promote safety and injury prevention and to provide the highest possible standards of education, certification and delivery in first aid and rescue services to the snow industry. Areas of Focus Financial Stability and Sustainability Ensure sustainability and growth potential for the CSPS through maintaining a solid financial position. Encourage maintenance and expansion of a strong volunteer base committed to excellence. Become the industry recognized certification body for ski patrollers in Canada. Expansion and Diversification Expand and diversify our programs to first ensure we meet the needs of the Snow Industry. Influence and Advocacy Become the recognized resource of information for snow sliding safety and rescue services in Canada.

3 Expected Outcomes Theme Statement The Canadian Ski Patrol System, Canada's premier advanced medical responders in the snow sliding industry, will market and deliver the highest quality training and services. By marketing the system assertively both internally to recruit and retain members and externally and to expand our reach in the snow industry and related fields.

4 Focus 1 Financial Stability and Sustainability Ensure sustainability and growth potential for the Canadian Ski Patrol System through maintaining a solid financial position. Develop a long term financial strategy and supporting plan to ensure sustainability of the CSPS Increase revenue and diversify revenue streams a) Develop a framework to evaluate Canadian Ski Patrol System financial trending. b) Develop activities to lessen our dependency on membership fees. c) Measurement and monitoring procedures in place for revenue/expenditures and results achieved. d) Review and reconcile distribution of resources across system and make recommendations for a new financial model. e) Identify and secure where possible new major sponsor(s). a) Implementation of recommended financial model.

5 Focus 2 Encourage expansion and maintenance of a strong volunteer base, committed to excellence. Increase and retain membership through focusing on developing and communicating volunteer benefits and providing a wider range of inclusive volunteer opportunities. Re-define and employ human resource management systems and processes for volunteers and paid resources to better utilize our most valuable assets. Develop a succession planning protocol to assist in ensuring continuity within the operational structure. a) To encourage Zones and Division to promote former members to form an alumni and Nationally to develop a network of the regional alumni. b) 5% increase in Membership. c) Develop a report on the effectiveness and the sustainability of our current written communications and their delivery methods that go to our membership. Specifically Sweep, Sk-E-Patrolling News and Zone Presidents News. a) Develop a member recognition program that allows our members to be acknowledged outside the System. b) Have in place plans to address actionable items from the report on the effectiveness and the sustainability of our current written communications and their delivery methods that go to our membership.

6 Focus 3 Become the dominant certification body for the training of Ski Patrollers in Canada. Achieve formal snow sport industry endorsement of the CSPS first aid certificate as the industry standard. Encourage reciprocal inclusion of industry representation into management structures at National, Division and Zone levels to develop and expand partnerships within the industry. Maintain and modify our level of education and certification of our core deliverables to be consistent with the needs industry Deliver training based on a modules. a) Complete Phase 1 and continue to complete phase 2 of the Patroller Certification Program. b) Ensure that all CSPS products are updated on a two year cycle (schedule). a) Publish/market CSPS product offerings targeting potential customers. b) Deliver the "Patroller Certification Program" complete with Modules into the new "Patroller Manual" CD.

7 Focus 4 Expansion and Diversification Expand our delivery market to include other organizations from within the larger outdoor sport and recreation industry. Develop strategic alliances and partnerships with organizations within the snow sport industry. Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy that ensures relevant and timely communication of information, both internally and external to the CSPS. Develop marketing plans for current and potential CSPS products. a) Number of resorts serviced to be maintained and target for increase established within each Division. b) Increase in number of resorts served and paid patrollers trained. a) Investigate the need to deliver training to our all Season diversification with our all season resort partners.

8 Focus 5 Influence and Advocacy Become the recognized resource and information for snow sliding safety and rescue services in Canada. Establish formalized Federal and Provincial government liaison at all levels of the organization. Establish liaison with the regional ski area/resort associations for the exchange of safety and rescue information a) Government liaison established in each Province and Federal with one or more meetings held in b) Government recognition of services in each Province and nationally. Emergency Service resource. c) Create an increase within the Snow Sliding Public a recognition of the quality and provision of CSPS service(s). a) Comprehensive list of Government agencies that recognize the services of the CSPS including an Emergency Service resource list. b) Inclusion of members of the local ski industry associations into Division and Zone events.
