1 VAIL RESORTS, INC. Beaver Creek Ski & Snowboard School News V OLUME I, ISSUE 3 AUGUST 7, 2015 Hello BC pros, Summer at Beaver Creek continues to be very busy. Many winter Ski and Snowboard School guests are enjoying Colorado and it s various summer activities and spending quality family time together before their kids return to school in a couple of weeks. It has been great to have so many of you stop in and say hello, reconnect, or introduce yourself for the first time. My door is always open and I look forward to seeing and hearing from more of you as we get closer to the beginning of the season. Perhaps, when we send out a news letter in September we will be able to report that we have had our first snow fall of the season. I am already starting to count down the days (approximately 70) until I can make some early season turns at Arapahoe Basin. Finally, on a very sad note I must share with you that long time Vail/Beaver Creek Supervisor Steve Holland lost his battle with cancer and passed away yesterday in his home in Avon. We will send out more information regarding a celebration of his life as we receive them. Take care and be safe, Fred Fred Rumford Director, Beaver Creek Ski ad Snowboard School frumford@vailresorts.com ================================================================================================================ ===== MOUNTAIN UPDATE: Snowmaking Refresh Project Expands during Winter Beaver Creek s unrivaled commitment to providing a high quality snow surface for skiers and snowboarders will further expand this season. In addition to Gold Dust, which was equipped with 24 fully-automated fan guns last season, an additional 23 fully-automated fan guns will equip Red Tail and Centennial trails. Three mobile carriage fan guns will also be added to enhance the Snowmaking Refresh fleet for which a new surface layer of snow is dusted atop the perfectly-groomed trails. Beaver Creek s state-of-the-art snowmaking system encompasses 650 acres of terrain across the resort. ================================================================================================================ Dear fellow pros, Please join us and bring your family for Epic Promise Day on Saturday, September 19. If you are in Eagle County we will be working on construction of the Mesquite Trail in Edwards Singletree Neighborhood with the guidance of the Vail Valley Mountain Bike Association. We had a blast last season working in the same trail system below Wildridge. If you cannot come to Eagle County check out the link below as there will be worthwhile projects in every community in which Vail Resorts operates. Saturday September 19th SIGN UP TODAY Bring the Clan. Epic Promise Day is a family-friendly event. Kids ages five and older are invited to attend and children's activities will be offered at each project. Or little ones can work alongside Mom and Dad. Don't forget to bring your friends, too! Lunch and Swag. Lunch will be provided along with some sweet swag as a sign of our appreciation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mike Blakslee, or mblakslee@vailresorts.com

4 B EAVER CREEK SKI & SNOWBOARD SCHOO L NEWS Move of the Month P AGE 4 Whether your skiing or snowboarding, leg muscles like your hamstrings, quadriceps, and calf muscles are going to be extremely important to strengthen. Having weak leg muscles can cause problems in every other area of your body. Leg exercises like body squats with a calf raise can help build muscular strength and endurance in virtually every muscle in your lower extremity. Strengthening these muscles will help reinforce knee and ankle joints, improve posture, and increase your ability to change direction quickly. If you would like to strengthen your leg muscles, then try adding body squats with a calf raise to your exercise routine 2-3 times a week! Body Squat with Calf: 1. Place your feet flat on the floor at about shoulder width apart. Keep your toes facing forward at all times. Make sure to keep your chest and head up and do not let them drop forward or fall backwards. Hold your hands out in front of you and do not allow yourself to swing them for momentum. This will be your starting position. 2. Downward Phase: While keeping your head and chest up, bend your knees to allow your body to lower towards the ground until your knees make a 90 degree angle with the ground. Do not allow your knees to go past your toes. Keep your back straight, abdominals engaged, and make sure your heels stay flat on the floor. During this downward phase you should be inhaling at a steady rate. 3.Upward Phase: Begin to exhale as you raise your body back towards the starting position. Drive through your heels as you use your legs to push yourself upward. As you approach the starting position, continue to thrust your entire body upwards past it by pushing through the balls of your feet and allowing your heels to leave the ground. You should end up balancing on the balls of your feet for 1 second before bringing them to the ground again. Repeat this exercise for a total of 3 sets of 15 repetitions each. Challenge yourself further: Once you feel comfortable completing this exercise for 3 full sets of 15 repetitions each, you can begin to challenge yourself even further! To do this complete the exercise in the same way as before, but now try and hold either 1 weighted dumbbell with both hands, or a dumbbell in each hand. Start with a lighter weight and work your way up as you build your strength!

5 B EAVER CREEK SKI & SNOWBOARD SCHOO L NEWS P AGE 5 Dear Pros: Creating Experiences of a Lifetime! There seems to be confusion regarding terms that were used in the Compensation letter I sent out last week. Here are more in depth definitions to help provide clarity. Hourly Base Rate This is your base wage, which is determined by certification level along with years of experience. Base Incentive You can increase the amount you earn per hour with Base Incentive pay. Credits are earned when you help generate additional business (i.e. request guests and return students). For a full-time instructor, Base Incentive increases at 50 credit increments throughout the season. The amount of the increase is based on status. At the beginning of each season, credit balances and the Base Incentive Pay revert to zero. For a part time instructor, Base Incentive increments are based on hours worked. Base Incentive is only paid on hours spent teaching. It does not apply to Other Pay such as training pay, operation assist, show-up, etc. Teaching Rate This is your Hourly Base Rate plus Base Incentive. Return and Request Incentive Pay Private Lesson Request Pay Request pay is $6/hr for all statuses (i.e. an all-day private lesson pays at [6.5hours X $6] and a half day pays at [3.25 hours X $6]). Group Lesson Return Student Pay Return pay is $7.50 per returning student for all statuses. Additional Pay Private Lesson Additional Pay This is for length P3, P2, and P1 private lessons. Group Lesson Additional Student Pay Extra pay is given per student for group sizes above a certain number of students specific to the product. End of season hourly wage: Better defined as your end of season teaching rate. End of the season teaching rate is your hourly base rate and any base incentives earned throughout the season. bcsnowpro.com Effective hourly wage: Better defined as total earnings for the season / total hours worked This includes Return and Request incentive pay and additional pay as defined above. In most cases your effective hourly wage will be greater than your end of season hourly rate. Please note the effective hourly wage will not be your base wage for the season. Job Offers with your base wage will be ed in October. Beaver Creek Ski & Snowboard Phone: Fax: Please feel free to contact me if you still require more clarity. Fred

6 B EAVER CREEK SKI & SNOWBOARD SCHOO L NEWS P AGE 6 MEET THE NEW #ONEPARKCITY Click on the video above and take a closer look at the new brand for Park City, the largest ski resort in the U.S. There is only one. (Password: oneparkcity) We officially combined the Park City and Canyons brands into one, under the name Park City, with a new logo combining the Canyons insignia with the Park City color palette, and the tag line There is only one. Park City. We are honored to have the community s support today as we unveil the new Park City brand, said Park City s COO, Bill Rock. The tag line There is only one is perfect because there is no place else like Park City. The town is already universally celebrated as one of the best ski destinations in the world and now will be home to the largest ski resort in the United States. We should all be proud of this mountain and this community as we invite the world to experience the combined resort during the upcoming winter season. The linking of Park City and Canyons is part of a $50-million capital improvement project which will transform the two resorts into one and complete a number of critical upgrades to the infrastructure. The project is one of the most ambitious and impactful capital programs in U.S. ski industry history and will create the largest ski resort in the United States with over 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. Existing brand elements from both resorts combine to create the new logo, pairing Park City s name and iconic red with the current Canyons symbol and font treatment. The resort s new tagline, There is only one. Park City. accompanies the new logo and brand positioning. Park City also announced the names of the new interconnect gondola and Snow Hut restaurant. The new gondola will be named Quicksilver. The eight-passenger, high-speed two-way gondola will transport guests from the base of the existing Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift at Canyons. The new restaurant, located at the base of the Silverlode Lift, will be called Miners Camp. It will accommodate 500 indoor seats and a top-of-the-line kitchen that will enhance the overall quality of the guest dining experience. The current Canyons base area will now be called Canyons Village at Park City. Canyons Village will be a gateway to America s largest ski resort as guests navigate 300 diverse trails. The combined Resort s new website is live at parkcitymountain.com. Social media will continue under the current Park City channels.
