Look forward to seeing all of you at our first meeting on September 18 th, 2009, at Skagit Valley College, Room L56, at 7:30pm. 5 ROBERT MORGAN I moved up here in the spring, and went to the first camera club meeting in September 1959, where they passed the constitution and bylaws. That is when the name Mt. Baker Camera Club was accepted. Bob is the only charter member of the Mt. Baker Camera Club who is still around, and has been an active member during all the intervening years. We salute you the godfather of Mt. Baker Camera Club! Bob began his life in the small town of Winlock in southwest Washington. Possibly one of the reasons he is such a valuable camera club teamworker is his early exposure to teamwork. He was born part of a team, with a twin brother, Richard. His early education was in Winlock, then Centralia Junior College, the College (now University) of Puget Sound and Tacoma General Hospital, earning a BS in clinical laboratory studies. Clinical lab work was his career, until his retirement from Skagit Valley Lab in Bob and his wife, Janet, moved to Mt. Vernon and raised two kids. Their eldest, Laurie, has a career with the U.S. Forest Service. Their son, Paul, is a Lt. Col. with the U.S. National Guard, and will be returning from his third tour of duty in Iraq this November. They also have a granddaughter. Photo-wise, he says he has played with cameras since the sixth grade. In reminiscing, they have included an Argus A2 35mm, a Kodak Retinaette, an EXA slr, a Graphic Century Press 2¼ x 3¼, a Pentax H1, a Pentax H3, and in l995, a Nikon F. More Nikon cameras have followed, and now he wouldn t switch to anything else. Bob has a lifelong interest in nature photography, and has specialized in this subject over the years. During the l990 s he donated many hours of his time and expertise to the U.S. Park Service in the North Cascades Park by taking on the project of identifying and photographing the mushroom species found within the Park ecosystems. He covered the area above Ross Dam and anything which drained into it, cataloging over 120 species. As we celebrate the 50 th Anniversary of the founding of our club, we want Bob to know how much we appreciate him and his efforts for the club. He has held many offices, and has been Treasurer forever. Thanks, Bob!! 5
6 A Note from the President Hi Club Members, Trust everyone enjoyed a fine summer. The weather certainly lent itself to spending time outdoors pursuing our photo hobby, and other interests as well. We did enjoy some summer activities. In June, Peter led a field trip to Fort Casey State Park on Whidbey Island for some interesting photography. The first of August, Michael and Margaretha Maryk hosted our annual summer picnic, with the usual fine food and good visiting time. The third week of August found us at the Northwest Washington Fair at Lynden for a Scavenger Hunt another fun time. We will view our scavenger hunt images later this fall. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our September meeting to start the club season. If you have any thoughts or ideas regarding club activities, please let me know. Your input is always welcome. Murphy Club Officers: Club Website: mtbakercameraclub.com Murphy Hektner, President Ron Walden, Vice-Pres.
