15 COMPETITION PROGRAMS & EVENTS (CONTINUED) BRIDGING THE GAP ATHLETES Bridging the Gap athletes are those youth or beginner athletes interested in joining our Alpine or Snowboard training teams for the Paralympics, but do not yet have the needed skills. Bridging the Gap athletes will register in the regular ski or snowboard lessons, but will be identified as Bridging the Gap athletes so that we can pair the athlete with a high level instructor within that discipline, as well as notify the head coach of the team so that they can coordinate a training plan and help set goals and areas of focus. This will help develop the athlete to the level where they will then be ready to join the team. TEAM FLYERS The National Ability Center s Team Flyers provides individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in National Ability Center competitions and Special Olympics Utah aquatics. Team Flyers is a holistic approach to competition where team members not only learn about specific sport based skills, but they will also work on teambuilding, learn about health and nutrition, goal setting, and other social life skills.
