1 2017 Freestyle/Freeskiing World Championships United States Ski & Snowboard Association 2017 Freestyle/Freeskiing World Championships Men's and Women's Team Selection Criteria 1. USSA POLICY USSA policy mandates that World Championships team selection criteria shall be principally objective (or performance-based), however coaches' discretion will be allowed with no limit and that available start rights and team spots will not necessarily be filled. 2. TEAM SIZE The International Ski Federation (FIS) has established that a maximum of thirty six (36) athletes representing any one nation may compete in the 2017 World Championships in freestyle. Athletes can be named to compete in the following World Championship events: Aerials, Halfpipe, Slopestyle, Moguls, Dual Moguls, and Skicross. FIS rules require that no more than twenty (20) athletes be of one gender. 3. START RIGHTS The maximum quota for a nation in any one event will be four (4) per gender. Athletes named to the team will start in the event from which they qualified. 4. ELIGIBILITY FOR CONSIDERATION To be eligible for consideration for selection to the 2017 Freestyle/Freeskiing World Championship Team, athletes must meet all of the following criteria: - Be a USSA member in good standing - Hold a valid United States Passport An athlete shall be ineligible for consideration if he/she is not fit to compete at the time selections are made due to any injury or illness from which he/she is not expected to recover adequately by the time of the World Championships as verified by USSA Medical Staff. Such determination shall be at the discretion of the Sport Directors after consulting with the USSA Sport Science and coaching staffs, the Head Team Physician and the athlete's designated physician. 5. TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA The coaching staff is responsible for applying the selection criteria set forth herein, subject to the approval of the President and CEO of USSA. Objective selections shall be based on the following: SKICROSS 1. Athletes 1, 2 and 3. Highest ranking athletes, per gender, from the Skicross FIS Points list valid on February 9, Athletes must be ranked in Top 32 for men and Top 16 for women to be eligible to participate. After the allocation of objective criteria between all World Championship disciplines (Aerials, Moguls/Dual Moguls, Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Skicross) any remaining nation quota positions in each discipline will be filled by selection from the Coaching staff, Sport
2 Directors, and E.V.P. Athletics based on the discipline/gender with the highest medal Skicross. Potential selection of Athlete(s) in Skicross. This determination will be made by the USSA coaching staff. The coaching staff may consider which events provide the best chance of winning World Championship medals. In making this selection, the coaching staff may consider any factors including, but not limited to, the following: Outstanding competition results (including any results from the 2016 and 2017 seasons) including proven ability to win in international competition such as Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Cup or World Championships, X-Games and U.S. Grand Prix. Recent direction or trend of competition results (i.e., improving, flat or declining). HALFPIPE 1. Athlete 1 and 2 Highest ranking athletes, per gender, from the combined results of the following events: December 14-17, 2016 Copper Mountain Grand Prix Halfpipe February 2-4, 2017 Mammoth Grand Prix Halfpipe USSA will assign athletes points, based on their results in each event, using the FIS World Cup points scoring system (100 point scale). Points associated with the athletes two best results will be added together to create the ranking list for nomination in each gender. If a tie remains after the conclusion of the events then the following tie-breaking mechanisms will be used in order of priority to select those athletes: -Single highest point result during the events -Highest point result from the Mammoth Grand Prix 2. Athlete 3 Highest ranking athlete (not already qualified from above criteria), per gender, from the AFP Halfpipe ranking list, valid on February 21, 2017 After the allocation of objective criteria between all World Championship disciplines (Aerials, Moguls/Dual Moguls, Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and Skicross) any remaining nation
3 quota positions in each discipline will be filled by selection from the Coaching staff, Sport Directors, and E.V.P. Athletics based on the discipline/gender with the highest medal Halfpipe Potential selection of Athlete(s) in Halfpipe. This determination will be made by the USSA coaching staff. The coaching staff may consider which events provide the best chance of winning World Championship medals. In making this selection, the coaching staff may consider any factors including, but not limited to, the following: Outstanding competition results (including any results from the 2016 and 2017 seasons) including proven ability to win in international competition such as Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Cup or World Championships, X-Games and U.S. Grand Prix. Recent direction or trend of competition results (i.e., improving, flat or declining). SLOPESTYLE 1. Athlete 1 and 2 Highest ranking athletes, per gender, from the following event: February 2-4, 2017 Mammoth Grand Prix Slopestyle In the case of the Mammoth competition being cancelled Athlete 1 and 2 will be selected from the AFP Slopestyle ranking list, valid on February 21, Athlete 3 Highest ranking athlete (not already qualified from above criteria), per gender, from the AFP Slopestyle ranking list, valid on February 21, 2017 After the allocation of objective criteria between all World Championship disciplines (Aerials, Moguls/Dual Moguls, Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and Skicross) any remaining nation quota positions in each discipline will be filled by selection from the Coaching staff, Sport Directors, and E.V.P. Athletics based on the discipline/gender with the highest medal Slopestyle Potential selection of Athlete(s) in Slopestyle. This determination will be made by the USSA coaching staff. The coaching staff may consider which events provide the best chance of winning World Championship medals. In making this selection, the coaching staff may consider any factors including, but not limited to, the following:
4 Outstanding competition results (including any results from the 2016 and 2017 seasons) including proven ability to win in international competition such as Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Cup or World Championships, X-Games and U.S. Grand Prix. Recent direction or trend of competition results (i.e., improving, flat or declining). MOGULS / DUAL MOGULS Athletes 1, 2, and 3 Three (3) athletes per gender in Moguls/Dual Moguls shall be selected to the team based solely upon their competition results during the selection period (December 1, February 26, 2017). Athletes qualified by criteria will compete in both Moguls and Dual Moguls. Criteria for objective selection shall be as follows, in order of priority: 1. One top three (3) finish. Athletes with a top three (3) finish in a World Cup event shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than three (3) objective selections per gender in any discipline, in which case USSA shall use the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: 2. Two top five (5). If fewer than three athletes are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1) above, then athletes with two top five (5) finishes in World Cup events shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than three objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order:

If fewer than three athletes per gender in the discipline are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1), (2) and (3) above, then athletes with three World Cup top Ten (10) finishes shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than three objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: 5. Highest World Cup Finish in a Discipline. If fewer than three athletes per gender are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1) through (4) above, then the additional athletes of that gender in that discipline with the highest single World Cup finish. If the application of this criteria would result in a total of more than three objective selections per gender, USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: After the allocation of objective criteria between all World Championship disciplines (Aerials, Moguls/Dual Moguls, Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and Skicross) any remaining nation quota positions in each discipline will be filled by selection from the Coaching staff, Sport Directors, and E.V.P. 6 Potential selection of a 4 th Athlete in Moguls/Dual Moguls. This determination will be made by the USSA coaching staff. The coaching staff may consider which events provide the best chance of winning World Championship medals. In making this selection, the coaching staff may consider any factors including, but not limited to, the following: Outstanding competition results (including any results from the 2016 and 2017 seasons) including proven ability to win in international competition such as Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Cup or World Championships, X-Games and U.S. Grand Prix. Recent direction or trend of competition results (i.e., improving, flat or declining). AERIALS Athletes 1, 2 and 3 Three (3) athletes per gender shall be selected to the team based solely upon their competition results during the selection period (December 1, March 4, 2017). Criteria for objective selection shall be as follows, in order of priority: 1. One top three (3) finish. Athletes with a top three (3) finish in a World Cup event shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than three (3) objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall use the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: 2. Two top five (5). If fewer than three athletes are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1) above, then athletes with two top five (5) finishes in World Cup events shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than two objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tiebreaking mechanisms in order:

One top five (5) If fewer than three athletes per gender are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1) and (2) above, then athletes with one top five (5) finish in World Cup events shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than two objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: 4. Three Top ten (10) finishes. If fewer than three athletes per gender in any discipline are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1), (2) and (3) above, then athletes with three World Cup finishes in the top Ten (10) shall be selected to the team, unless application of this criteria would result in a total of more than two objective selections per gender, in which case USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order: 5. Highest World Cup Finish in a Discipline. If fewer than three athletes per gender are selected to the team based upon the criteria numbered (1) through (4) above, then the additional athletes of that gender with the highest single World Cup finish during the selection period. If the application of this criterion would result in a total of more than two objective selections per gender USSA shall limit such selections accordingly by using the following tie-breaking mechanisms in order:

Athletics based on the discipline/gender with the highest medal Aerials Potential selection of 4 th Athlete in Aerials. This determination will be made by the USSA coaching staff. The coaching staff may consider which events provide the best chance of winning World Championship medals. In making this selection, the coaching staff may consider any factors including, but not limited to, the following: Outstanding competition results (including any results from the 2015 and 2016 seasons) including proven ability to win in international competition such as Olympic Winter Games, FIS World Cup or World Championships, X- Games and U.S. Grand Prix. Recent direction or trend of competition results (i.e., improving, flat or declining). 6. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SELECTIONS Selections to the 2017 World Championships team shall be announced at a time to be determined at the offices of USSA in Park City, Utah, and shall be published immediately upon announcement. 7. MANDATORY TRAINING Following the selection of the 2017 World Championships team mandatory training camps may be organized in preparation for the Dates, locations and organization of these camps will be announced prior to the final selection of the team. 8. ATHLETE REPLACEMENT PRODEDURE In the case that an athlete that has been selected to the team becomes injured or ill prior the World Championships and is unable to compete, no replacement athlete will be named unless it is deemed that there is sufficient time to make a replacement without disrupting the competition or preparation of other athletes and that the additional athlete would have sufficient time to properly prepare for the competition. This decision will be made by the Sport Directors for USSA after consulting with the President and CEO of USSA, Head World Championship Coaches, and USSA Sport Science Department. Should an additional athlete be considered, the procedures as outlined in Section 5.B. above will be followed to select that athlete. No athletes will be named to the team
9 following the conclusion of mandatory training or within five days of the start of the World Championships.
