n truth, it was the unexpected days that created the greatest memories!

2 Y H, W H K H.. en hearer he eligoni roup irector o this summer marked ten years since my family took on the club and in all honesty, we hadn t realised until the planning of this paper. ot because we don t see the significance of such an anniversary, but more that we ve never weighed the worth of eligoni on milestones, dates and numbers. Yet now we re here, it s hard not to pause for moment and look back at the countless memories that have shaped our remarkable journey since bit like the road from Zakynthos airport to the lub, the last decade has seen many up and downs with one or two hairpins along the way but when looking at the lub today, m proud to say it s all been worth it. t wouldn t be right to claim that this was all our doing. m sure the amazing weather helped, but credit belongs to the wonderful staff and, if am completely honest, the best guests in the world. ogether, they are what makes eligoni so special. ooking back on the past ten years, it s impossible to pick the highlights when every single day was great. n truth, it was the unexpected days that created the greatest memories! op of my list was the waterlogged arty ight in 2006 where everyone stoically turned what could have been a disaster into one of the best nights the lub has ever seen. (lthough that may be because was still quite young and it was one giant wet t-shirt competition!) hen, windsurfing to Kefalonia was an epic adventure but so was saving the ontoon with a rescue boat in the middle of the night in a storm wearing jeans and a shirt because the weather threatened to shipwreck the green monster. could go on and on about so many more moments like these. ut, it s time to look to the future, especially as we formally introduce eli-ki and eachspoke into the fold. f what lies ahead is as adventurous as the trail we leave behind, we have so much to look forward to. W WH H, H W W, H W... Why did you first come to he eligoni lub? We were looking for somewhere our teenage kids would enjoy without feeling hemmed in, or having to go to a resort or a city.

ur youngest was nine and mistakenly worried she would be short of friends or activities to keep her busy. he holiday was one of our best ever as a family. and what made you come back?

show. y youngest however, was enchanted with the delights of a dawn water ski, and after three mornings the brilliant instructor had her on a mono ski, with her self confidence soaring.

3 W WH H, H W W, H W... Why did you first come to he eligoni lub? We were looking for somewhere our teenage kids would enjoy without feeling hemmed in, or having to go to a resort or a city. y wife found he eligoni lub online, and with the promise of being permitted to bring a friend each, our two eldest were on board with the idea. ur youngest was nine and mistakenly worried she would be short of friends or activities to keep her busy. he holiday was one of our best ever as a family. and what made you come back? he older kids were immersed in the whole experience from the get go, with water polo, sailing, windsurfing, backgammon lessons, tennis tournaments, party nights, and the entertaining poolside fashion show. y youngest however, was enchanted with the delights of a dawn water ski, and after three mornings the brilliant instructor had her on a mono ski, with her self confidence soaring. he rest of her trip was spent on the water, sailing, windsurfing or hanging out with the incredibly patient and kind beach staff, each one cementing a special place in the hearts of the kids. ames like hip, Yoghurt and quirrel are still mentioned all these years later! ot only did they put safety first, they just made everything really great fun and were a huge reason why we returned the next year. 4 he service was faultless, and as long as you go there without the expectation of liveried flunkeys leaping out from behind every olive tree with a fake smile, then the experience is what you make it. n short, eligoni is the perfect recipe for a happy and memorable family holiday and that s why we kept coming back. What made you decide to build a villa in the area? ur experience with the club had been so positive, we felt that when the kids had grown up they would still enjoy coming here. With the longterm in mind, it made sense to build a home on an island where we could spend months rather than days in close proximity to an english speaking holiday club we love, as well as a handful of other home owners. he other reason was the plot of land we finally chose. ven though there was no road at the time and the plot had to be accessed by climbing over a couple of centuries old stone walls, knew we had found the right place within a few minutes. We were led to the middle of a meadow, knee-high wild grass, carpets of flowers, a slope running up to a natural wall of tall scrub at the top, with the bottom of the plot bordered by an olive grove and a breath-taking view of the valley, the sea and Kefalonia to the left. t was clearly the one. 5

4 What were the greatest challenges associated with buidling on the island? re there any secret spots on the island that you escape to? he greatest challenge was to find the right people to build it for us, to manage the project from inception to completion. en introduced us to a local young couple, itsa and pyros, who were associated with the home building business, and knew many of the suppliers required to get the job done. he house would simply have never happened had we not met them they were so fantastic, hard working, trustworthy, and really passionate about the job. hey took away all the stresses involved and were relentless in pursuing the excellent ritish architect for solutions to structural issues that they could implement themselves. hey have become really great friends, and thank en, my lucky stars and the gods of building that we met itsa and pyros who didn t just build us a house, they built us a home we love. What aspect of the villa are you most proud of? here is a spot at the top of the driveway, where you can sit and watch the sunset. he view takes in the whole house, the terraces down to the pool, the olive trees, and the valley as it spills down to the water a kilometre or so away, with Kefalonia on the horizon. he silence is sometimes punctuated by a splash in the pool or laughter from someone in the house, and that feels pretty good. here s a wonderful little stony beach between icronisi and the club where the water is crystal clear and there s no one in sight. uture plans for the house? ennis court maybe next year, fruit garden, and a tiny greek style sunken amphitheatre where if there was ever a family dispute, the rule would be that it must take place on the stage, and all other house guests are welcome to watch. We have not had too many takers on that one but am forging ahead with the plan anyway! What s your favourite eligoni memory? here are so many but waterskiing at dawn with the kids is something cherish. nd there was one quiz night where mistakenly persuaded the entire family group that a photo of bama was olin arrell. y fellow mericans delivered in a heavy rish brogue has been a family joke ever since (0)

Who would be your ideal companion on the slopes? ode iller not only is he one of the most successful ski-racers of all time, he seems to enjoy life a bit too! What s the most ridiculous request you ve had from a client? was asked to provide an elephant for a guests daughter to ride to the slopes on every morning...and? Harrods were keen, for a mere 1 millon but the had something to say about that. n a scale of 1 to 10 how happy are you to be back in the arms of eli? 10 couldn t be happier! he last six or so years have definitely taught me a huge amount and can t wait to bring that experience back to eligoni! .! - en reams of a personal getaway had to be adapted and the idea of creating a eachspoke property, a little further from the beach came to fruition.

7 YW H HK W WH K H WY HH H YW H W. aunched in ebruary of this year Yarrow cottage is eachspoke s first property outside of ornwall, and our first two bedroom cottage. esigned primarily as en and ella s weekend boutique hideaway, it s a surprising escape in the otswolds. ut the story of Yarrow hasn t been smooth sailing. nitially bought on a whim as a property to be slowly adapted to their style when purchased in June 2013, everything changed in January 2014 when a collapsed roof in this 400 year old thatched cottage forced them to rethink their plans. reating a eachspoke property is not just as simple as slapping on a bit of paint and declaring it so..! - en reams of a personal getaway had to be adapted and the idea of creating a eachspoke property, a little further from the beach came to fruition. ocation is paramount and in hurchill they had the perfect village to make this idea work. he work required a completely new roof structure over the top of the original cruck frame. his authentic frame set the tone for the design of the property. With up-cycled damaged rafters, cladding walls, a simple colour pallet and as much exposed otswolds stone as was possible, the design started to come together. ella stepped in and, as en puts it, she said we need a statement bathroom so they found a second hand copper bath and worked from there, reinventing a disused chimney into a walk-in shower with a copper wall, dark tiles and stone basins! he rest of the house followed suit to eventually become the countryside haven it is today (0)

H W - he winter months bring the arrival of strong swells to the ornish coast from the mighty tlantic cean. lthough many beaches are best kept for experienced surfers, there are plenty of sheltered bays and coves which really turn on when the swell is up and are perfect for learners and intermediates. 2. H W - r in this case lack of it. With most seasonal surfers and tourists out of the water you will have your pick of the waves. nlike summer months when the sea is swarming with wave riders of all descriptions playing aqua dodgems. or beginners this means more open space to practice without worrying about anyone getting in the way! 3. H - n the last few years wetsuit technology has taken a huge step forward which means the cold really isn t an issue anymore, with boots, gloves and a toasty 5mm wetsuit there is nothing to fear! earning to surf is also an extremely physical activity with a typical two hour winter session burning over 1500 calories! 4. - nce you ve got your wetsuit and your board you re good to go. o membership to pay, no admission fee, no time limit. You can surf wherever you want for as long as you want with as many or few friends as you want and it won t cost you a penny! 5. W - When people think of surfing they often mention Hawaii, ustralia, alifornia. have travelled the world extensively with surfing as have many of my friends and colleagues and the more travel/explore only emphasises just how lucky am to live in such an amazing part of the planet, our coastline is literally packed full of incredible surf breaks, each with their own character, charm and varying scales of ability for all levels of surfer What are you waiting for!!!!!! 6.!!! - post surf pasty is a whole new level of satisfaction!
