6 TOPSAIL ISLAND BEACHES TOPSAIL BEACH Incorporated in 1963, the Town of Topsail Beach boasts a friendly, family oriented style of beach living. There are over 1200 homes, but only about 500 year-round residents. The seasonal influx of tourists increases the population to about 7,000, which helps sustain the town's motels, restaurants, gift shops, fishing pier and other businesses. SURF CITY Surf City, NC, is the largest of the 4 incorporated Town's in the Topsail region boasting 6 miles of beaches on Topsail Island as well as properties adjacent to coastal waters and marshes, a wonderful parks and recreation system with 3 parks and a community center. Recent growth has brought outstanding commercial projects as well as new residential developments to the island and the mainland. NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH North Topsail Beach lies on the northernmost section of Topsail Island, directly north of Surf City. Located in Onslow County, NTB has a population of 843, which swells in the summer due to its large number of vacation rentals. 7 TOPSAIL ISLAND BRIDGE REPLACEMENT The N.C. Department of Transportation is replacing the old swing bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway into Surf City with a new bridge, which is outlined below. The project is funded ($53.77mm project) and is currently under construction. The new bridge is expected to double the bridge traffic (from the current +/- 17,000 VPD to over +/- 30,000 VPD).
