5 Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Benoa beach is renowned for its beautiful beaches, but less known by the visitors and public in general is the fact that the same coastline is also prone to tsunamis, as Bali is located close to the collision zone between the Indian- Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate which represents the main source area for local tsunamis that might affect the island. It has to be expected that tsunami waves will need only 20 to 80 minutes to reach the coast. ITDC is getting prepared - What about you? ITDC is divided into a Red Zone, which is a high risk area for tsunamis, and a Yellow Zone, which is less likely to be affected. If the tsunami alarm sounds, leave the red zone immediately! If you are in, or close to, a high, strong building it might be safer to seek shelter on a higher floor instead of moving in land. Tsunami Early Warning ITDC Area is connected to the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System (InaTEWS). Tsunami warning as will be disseminated by Badung Government and TV Stations as weel as via siren located at Northern part of BTDC area. A three minute steady sound from the siren is a call for immediate evacuation. If you are in a hotel, please follow instructions of hotel staff. If the water retreats more quickly and further than during normal tides, a tsunami is imminent. A strong wind or a roaring sound may be heard prior to arrival of tsunami waves If you observe any of these signs, look for shelter immediately! Understand Natural Warning Signs If the water retreats more quickly and further than during normal tides, a tsunami is imminent. A strong wind or a roaring sound may be heard prior to the arrival of tsunami waves. If you observe any of these signs, look for shelter immediately!

6 REMEMBER... 1 If you feel an earthquake, protect yourself! don t panic! drop, cover and hold on! 2 After an earthquake, be aware that a tsunami may follow Move away from the beach immediately as a precaution measure! Look for more information through TV and Radio! 3 After a strong and prolonged earthquake, evacuate immediately! Don t wait for an official warning, leave the Red Zone immediately if possible or look for shelter in higher buildings. If you are around beach area, look for shelter in one of the hotels with higher floors. If you are around the gate area, then move to safe zone immediately As a visitor in a hotel, please follow the instructions of hotel staff 4 The sound of the siren is the official call for evacuation If the siren sounds, follow the evacuation procedure as indicated above (no.3)! Be aware that the siren may not be heard in all areas. 5 After the first tsunami wave, more waves are likely to come! 6 Wait for an official All Clear message before leaving shelter
