Show & Tell Chuck hocking presented the Polaris 120 he had received from the membership at the December meeting. Chuck has since completed the model which looks very sharp with his water based acrylic paint job. Chuck also added a strobe front wheel, motor cowl from a Twinstar, and a cut-down McDonald s coffee spoon as a chin scoop to improve air flow. The model flies on a 3s 2200 battery. John Slatinsky presented an older plane he resurrected with some creative balsa shaping. The model is an old Top Flight Taurus that had suffered a tragic fuel-related mishap. There was significant damage to the wing leading edge, and John replaced the balsa sheeting by making a jig to shape the balsa before it was attached to the plane (John presented this technique at a previous meeting last year). The Taurus designed and flown in national pattern competitions in the 1960s by Ed Kazmirski. Andy Runte presented a new combat wing built from on-line plans and intended to fly on a 2805 motor with a flying weight of 11 oz. Andy also presented a Turnigy thrust stand from Hobby king. This is a small aluminum stand with an electric motor mount, a digital thrust meter and a place to strap down your motor/esc. HobbyKing sells these for about $52.50, when they aren t backordered. Andy also had a Servo tester, which has proved very handy in setting up new planes, for centering servos and measuring deflection. Rikk Wolfs presented his homebuilt Dremel tool bit rack, which was detailed in last month s Flight Lines. The rack is quite impressive Newsletter and Date holds a wide array of bits and accessory parts. Treasurer s report Dan Kleckner reports our current balance is $2,153.14, reflecting a $150 expense for annual AMA club dues. Raffle Rikk Wolfs reports the raffle stands at $1,700 in cash and inventory. Banquet The annual banquet is set for March 27. Holger Petersen reports the Banquet venue is not requiring a deposit from us this year. He requests club members bring planes,: they can be dropped off Thursday afternoon while the space is being set up, of Friday during the event. If you have more than you can fit in your car after the banquet, you can come back and pick up your plane (s) Saturday morning. At the time of this newsletter, we currently have about 51 reservations for the banquet, and are hoping to hit 70. If you haven't sent Holger your reservation yet, please do so as soon as possible, as attendance numbers need to be finalized. Holger also mentioned the contest rules may be re-examined this year. New Business There was some discussion of a request from Crites Field that we put on a flying exhibition there this summer while work is being done on their runways. After much debate, it was concluded that the site proposed for us to fly may be impractical as it was close to a busy street and the hangars. Events Our annual Fun Fly is set for the last Saturday in July, which would be the 25th. At some point in the near future, we will be inviting the Rubicon Area Flyers to the field for a cookout. The date is to be determined, and Jerry Kettner is coordinating.

2 Old Business Todd Weiler reported that the St. Charles school demonstration on January 30th went very well: With the help of John Slatinsky, Dan Kleckner, Dennis Grossklaus, and Dave Mohr 22 kids were exposed to R/C flying via helis, a Quad, a Vapor and 6 flight simulator PCs and an ipad. Dennis Grossklaus reported that the next Association meeting was to be the next Saturday, and solicited feedback. Some of the suggestions included: better Ice abatement in the parking lot, better traffic control at the loading dock, and moving the opening time for vendors from 7 am back to 6 am, as it had been in previous years. There were 16 members at the annual breakfast, which may signify the end of the event. Events Our annual Fun Fly is set for the last Saturday in July, which would be the 25th. The club Swap meet will be held at the field May 16. Editors Note: Content was a bit light this week, so I added on a few photos from a recent trip to the EAA museum at Oshkosh: I had been looking around online for instrument panel photos of a Monocoupe 90A so I could add some scale detail to a large model I had won at the Christmas raffle a few years back. It turns out the EAA museum had a full scale Monocoupe 90A there that was in the process of being restored. I ed the museum and wound up corresponding with Ron Twellman, the curator of collections, who was very gracious and said it would be mo problem fro me to go behind the scenes and take a few photos of their Monocoupe as I was working on a 1/4 scale model of the same plane and wanted to add accurate detail to the interior. Ron told me I could ask any of the volunteers a the Pioneer airport and they would let me behind the ropes. He would be on hand to verify that I had permission if there were any issues. When I arrived at the pioneer airport, and explained what I wanted to do, the volunteers were very helpful and had no problems with my taking whatever photos I wanted. I just wanted to share this experience with the membership; the museum staff were more than willing to hel pa modeler out and could not have been more welcoming.
