Business Arising: It was noted that Andrew Freeman was subsequently appointed Liquor Licensee for the Club. Annual Report The Annual Report was presented to the meeting for adoption. Wayne Cavanagh encouraged the club to focus on carrying out best practice in everything we do going into the next season. He would like to see cadet retention and membership improve in the coming season. He also encouraged our grey army of seasoned members to reach out and encourage previous and new members to join up and contribute to the club and the community. He noted that the club is a big entity and we need to avoid burn out. For those who contributed last season, he thanked them all. Wayne noted that the juniors are our growth nursery and we need to focus on them and make further improvements. Wayne noted that on general Life Saving, the club was awarded Branch Patrol Inspections Excellence. (tied with Mollymook). This is our core business. Wayne also congratulated all Branch Awardees. He noted our patrol strength is still good, but it requires ongoing commitment and renewal. There were no deaths on our beach. We ran some fantastic programs, particularly in education last season. We also conducted a series of excellent events, including Sydney Water, a one-day Branch Carnival (on short notice) and the Navy Australian Surf Rowers League Open. Well done to all who helped make these events so successful. We look forward to another successful event next season. We have had a few issues with our function centre downstairs, which we will update you about in General Business. 6 Michael Flood tabled the Club Captain s report, noting the reduction from 14 to 13 patrols for next season. He welcomed Paul Condran and Mick Hass as incoming patrol captains and thanked Wayne Cooper and Paul Lomas (who are stepping down due to work commitments. Michael noted changes to the names of Patrols for next season. Paul Schloeffel tabled the Chief Training Officer s report. He noted a need for more trainers to step up in future due to the volume we train in this club. Michael Flood tabled the Registrar s report and thanked Georgina Buttel and Kathy Parramore who have volunteered to take on carnival entries next season. Martin Wells tabled the Cadet Captain s report and thanked all those who helped the cadets remain engaged in the club. Wayne Cavanagh thanked Martin for his contribution to cadets over a number of seasons. Wayne Cavanagh tabled the Boat Captain s report. Peter Stacey tabled the Carnival Organiser s report and gave a huge thanks to all who contributed to the Team Effort lasts season. Peter indicated he was still keen to see loads of seniors at Club Championships next season. Matt Barnes tabled the IRB report and thanked those who assisted whilst he was unavailable during the ASRL and Steve Reid providing training for new drivers and crewpersons. Matt noted that the club would be selling off some old IRBs and motors. Dean Boyton tabled the Junior Chairperson s report and congratulated and noted Byron Vinkovic on being named SLSNSW Junior Life Saver of the Year. He noted a few changes to the committee for the coming season. The Annual Report was endorsed by Darryl Glover and seconded by Ed Hyde. Financial Report Bruce Kejda tabled the Financial Report for the year ending April It was noted that there is presently no income from the Function Centre, however we have retained significant funds to see us through. It was also noted that the club was seeking an Assistant Treasurer to learn the ropes for future proofing the club. The Annual Report Financials were moved for acceptance by Paul Schloeffel and seconded by Peter Stacey. Election of Office Bearers Wayne noted the Management Committee endorsed the incoming Junior Committee. Wayne raised the list of 2015/16 Patrons and asked the meeting to review the patron s list and/or endorse it for follow up. The Patron s list was reviewed and agreed to follow up those listed. Wayne stood down so the election of Office Bearers could commence. Paul Schloeffel took the chair to elect the President. Office bearers elected are noted in the Office Bearer s Table. 7 Correspondence received Nil Consideration of Long Service Membership Paul and Karen Condran Paul Schloeffel read the nominations for Long Service endorsed by the Management Committee for consideration by today s meeting for Paul and Karen Condran. The Meeting was invited to vote and it was noted that a 4/5 majority was required for the motions to be carried. Votes were tallied. The result was a 100% unanimous vote for both candidates to be awarded Long Service Membership. Congratulations to Paul and Karen. General Business 1. Update on Function Centre Wayne Cavanagh revisited the history of the function centre and the lease issues with council. It was noted that a Special General Meeting endorsed the Committee to sign a new lease, however this lease has not yet been signed due to ongoing hurdles that need to be resolved first. These issues relate to the Planning approvals, the LEP and the Plan of Management for our Community Land. He noted that The Shellharbour Club had expressed a commitment to operate the function centre once the council planning issues were resolved. This could be 4 5 months yet. Meeting closed at 3.20 pm. 8 President s Report Season Shellharbour SLSC Greetings to all and a whole hearted thank you each and every Shellharbour SLSC member that contributed to the success of the past season for our fantastic club. At many levels we had a very busy and at times exhausting program of events, activities and a mixed bag of weather and surf conditions on our beach throughout the season to say the least. I am very proud particularly of our active patrolling members for the vigilance and effort put in during our lifesaving patrol season with many tricky rescues as well as numerous first aid and preventative actions. No fatalities on our beach can be attributed to the outstanding efforts of our patrol teams, led by a dedicated and committed group of patrol captains. One of the great inspirations of life saving is being a member of a truly great team of community minded people with different skill sets all there for each other and knowing the importance of the role we play in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of others. I again thank the club s management committees, branch committee attendees and members who have toiled hard to keep club operations running smoothly and professionally throughout the past season. I also thank member Andrew Freeman for the outstanding job he does in the important role of club liquor licence holder. We appreciate the work you do to ensure we comply with relevant authorities when we host social and sports events at our club. One of the great new club happenings this season was the addition of Harbour Tales. A very well liked information and promotional tool created by club member and Publicity Officer, Craig Nealon, and assisted by cameo roles from numerous club members. The video clip grabs are engaging and fun and helps us all see up to date information on our fellow members, their roles in the club and also some great coverage of our lifesaving efforts and events we host. I have listed some information snapshots from season 2016/2017 under key headings below. Patrols: Lifesaving patrol team strength has remained steady this season with a slight drop in numbers so with changes ahead next season the Club Captain and Committee will be looking at patrol teams capability and patrol member distribution to ensure we remain strong in this vital area of lifesaving. Thank you to all of our patrolling members for your ongoing commitment and diligence to the safety of others in the surf and on the beach this past season. Huge thanks to our First Aid Officer Kyle Glazier for another year in your role supporting our patrol teams. Also thanks to Michael Flood our Club Captain for supporting our lifesaving program and patrolling members. 48 Patrolling members achieved 100% patrol attendance this season, an outstanding effort that you all should be proud of. 9 Education: A record number of SRC, Bronze Medallion, Gold Medallion, ARTC and IRB Crew & Driver candidates completed their awards this season. Thank you goes out to Paul Schloeffel, Chief Education Officer and our team of club education award trainers and coaches for your dedication and time given to ensure quality training of our members. As usual a large contingent of dedicated club members contributed their time in providing water safety at scheduled training sessions and Sunday junior activities, as well as numerous carnivals and special events. I thank you for your ongoing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our club members. 10 First Aid Given Minor Marine Stings Major Marine Stings Cuts and Abrasions Competition: This season our club successfully hosted round four (Finals) of the Sydney Water Surf Series. The event was a fantastic success on all levels and a fitting way to see out the 15th year of this top notch event. Our junior and senior competitors proudly stepped up to represent our club. We can be very proud of our achievements over the third weekend of February as we collectively worked very hard to host the third National Navy ASRL Open Championships. The event attracted over 300 boat crews from all over Australia and generated a massive economic boost to our region. The calibre of competition over the three days was amazing and many say that the racing held in the finals on the Sunday were some of the best ever. Shellharbour athletes, junior and senior, competed at local state and national surf sports events proudly and did so with a very supportive group of family, friends, handlers, coaches and officials. I must signal out our brilliant female master s athletes the golden girls for again representing the club at all levels of competition and bringing home a swag of medals and great results, truly inspirational. The club is at a stage where we need to increase our capability by way of increasing our numbers of officials and coaches. If you are thinking of committing to this rewarding line of club operations, please talk to any member for advice on how to become involved. The club will support you with appropriate mentoring. IRB: Our Club was again fortunate to invest in some new IRB resources this season. At the start of this year we acquired a new IRB motor with full surf kit, stainless four blade prop and prop guard through the SLSNSW Dollar for Dollar grant program as well as a new Thundercat IRB hull and also a new Nauta fuel cell.. Appreciation to our IRB Captain Matt Barnes and IRB Vice-Captain Jake Westlake for your leadership and coordination in what can only be described as a roller coaster season. I really do applaud the many hours of commitment given by our IRB drivers and crews, patrolling and non-patrolling throughout the past season. Whether you were providing support for activities at our beach, award training, carnivals or special events you are always the first to set up and the last to pack up at the conclusion. Well done! 11 A great sponsorship initiative was struck this season with Hi Tech Marine coming on board to assist the club by way of a pre and post season maintenance deal which should relieve some of the pressure on members in the area of equipment maintenance. They are also providing parts and consumables at discounted prices. Please let us know if you would like to join our IRB fraternity. The club will ensure that award training and mentoring is provided to help you achieve your goals. Juniors: SHSLSC Junior activities have again been very successful this season albeit having to contend with some unsuitable and varied surf conditions throughout the season. Our JAC committee is healthy under the leadership of Chairperson Dean Boyton and his hard-working team. Your work in these roles does not go unnoticed. Well done to you all. To remain successful in this vital area of club activities we need as much help as we can get from families and members to ensure best practice and continue to be the envy of many clubs. Huge thanks to Elisa Girvan and Brittany Sharkey for their commitment to our Beach Pup s program. The feedback from parents has been wonderful and the little ones had so much fun at the beach under your guidance. Of course we must commend our very committed age managers for your caring support of our juniors and the time invested in ensuring our nippers are guided along the path to a strong surf lifesaving future. Community: Our club was chosen to participate in a joint venture with Illawarra South Coat State Emergency Services by way of hosting a community Tsunami Awareness day which was most successful. The tsunami awareness message was promoted as well as a fantastic opportunity for our nippers and members and families to see hands on SES equipment and technologies. The event provided substantial funds to the club and the SES management team were very impressed with our club s management of the day. Stay tuned for more joint venture activities with the SES team. SHSLSC was again very well represented at this year s Anzac Day Dawn Service at the Shellharbour memorial in Addison Street and it was very special to have Liam Furney our South Coast Branch Junior Lifesaver of the Year recipient and Maddison Farrer lay a wreath on behalf of Shellharbour Surf Club. Our valued Two-Up team members yet again ensured the traditional and very well run Two Up day at the Shellharbour Club was a great success. Close to $2,000 was raised to assist the Warilla RSL Sub Branch in providing valuable support to Australian Service men and women. Massive thanks also to our ringmaster, Greg Creagan, who controlled the spinners for yet another year. As far as getting our message out into the community goes we are really thankful for the continued efforts of our club web site administrator David Gaston. David gives his time in regularly updating our site as well as helping set up NBN connectivity and Shellharbour SLSC Annual Report P a g e 11

12 also ensuring our web cam is working to optimum capacity. In saying this, thanks also to Marc Curci for assisting the club with the web cam and other infra structure over the last few seasons via Project Portfolio sponsorship. Our Sponsors: I would like to acknowledge the club s supporting sponsors. Every sponsorship whether it be financial or in kind provision of goods or product, we all reap the benefits and really do appreciate your ongoing support of Shellharbour SLSC. Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club and its wonderful members are to be commended as we are often acknowledged as the club to count on when it comes to delivering best practice and a welcoming atmosphere when large scale events are hosted. Shellharbour SLSC stepped up again in April to deliver another wonderful ocean swim. The BlueScope WIN Community Partnerships event continues to attract a steady number of diehard entrants and this year we all enjoyed safe surf conditions on the day and I would like to acknowledge the work behind the scenes from Tracey Freeman, David Gaston, Steve Armstrong, Angela Rowles, water safety and IRB teams and other supporting club members that contributed to setting up, start line roles at the harbour foreshore and finish line on the day. The atmosphere was wonderful and feedback from many competitors and visitors praised the country style laid back vibe of the event and also the tremendous provision of safety provided during the day s events. Thanks to Shellharbour Tourism and the Breeze Café for their ongoing sponsorship. Around the clubhouse and grounds: With ongoing difficulties and time taken to secure finalisation of our function centre operational terms with Shellharbour City Council and the state government our sponsorship partnerships are even more important to our club and very much appreciated. I thank each and every member that assisted the club in fundraising activities this past season including support of our annual appeals day, carnivals, special events, social events, provision of bar services and day to day activity catering such as the fantastic effort put in by our BBQ helpers. Apart from the week to week efforts in providing this resource for our nippers and families and members I thank those behind the members that priced, sourced, and shopped for the supplies needed to provide these services to members. We appreciate your fine work. I would like to thank Joanne Helson for her work in the role of bookings custodian of our clubhouse. Members requiring use of the club room contact Jo and are assisted in the hire process in line with club room hire policy. Thank you also to Tracey Freeman, for taking on the role of managing the bookings of the adjacent function centre while we await Council s resolution of the planning/approvals issues to allow us to move forward with our preferred commercial operator. This has allowed the club to recoup some income while the venue remains empty. Shellharbour SLSC Annual Report P a g e 12

13 The club invested in renewing the grassed area lighting by rewiring and replacing the old lights with more updated LED technology. The lights are controlled by an automatic timer and this makes the area much more safe and secure during the evening hours. Another investment was made towards the end of the season with the purchase of a new PA system for use during club activities and events. Thank you to Peter Stacey for sourcing and purchasing the PA system for the club. We really owe a debt of gratitude to our hard working members that spend countless hours in maintaining and improving our grounds and clubhouse facilities throughout not only the season proper but all year round. Your efforts are appreciated by all. Also thank you to Troy Hunt one of our boaties who through his business Leisure Coast Kitchens manufactured and installed lockable trophy and memorabilia cabinets upstairs in our club house. We really appreciate this kind gesture. Thank you to Rob McAlister and other supporting members for the brilliant job in refreshing our club room with memorabilia and other mementos of the club s history. The club room is really something we can all admire and be proud of. I am very appreciative of the work Rob Ryan has carried out in providing club house maintenance and the co-ordination of maintenance service providers working for the club. Summing up: I am very excited about some new initiative s that will be announced in the near future in relation to off season training and cadet member programs. Work has been done already in investigating a fresh new program including the formation of a cadet member steering committee including nine of our fantastic cadet members. Thank you to Dana Richards, Dean Boyton and Will Furney for your input in the planning stage of this new initiative. Another wonderful initiative to watch out for in the upcoming season is the club s involvement in the Riding the Wave Program where some generous club youth members and others will volunteer their time to assist people with disabilities to enjoy the surf in this inclusive program. 14 So, as we move forward throughout the winter off season period I hope all members are able to enjoy a small break by making the most of quality family time, winter sports and the like. Winter training is now a focus for us, including some away sessions planned. Stay safe and let s work together to ensure we have a strong season leading into Thank You All and Go Harbour! 15 Club Captain s Report This season our 13 patrol captains were supported by 229 patrolling members providing a total of volunteer hours to keep our beach safe for locals and visitors. Our patrolling members performed 19 rescues, 61 first aid treatments, and 33 preventative actions. We all shared a mix of mornings, afternoons, public holidays, sunny, cloudy, windy, and wet days, but I hope you remember those ideal beach days and enjoyed them enough to come back next season. Our patrol numbers continue to stay robust with more members throughout the season attaining their Bronze medallion, IRB Drivers /Crew certificate, and Surf Rescue Certificate. I would like to thank our Chief Training Officer Paul Schloeffel and assisting trainers Steve Reid and Jake Reid for the time they spend at our club training our members that helps to boost our patrol numbers. I would like to acknowledge our 13 Patrol Captains: Dean Boyton, Wayne Cavanagh, Paul Condran, Marc Curci, Tracey Freeman, Ryan Gaetani, Michael Hass, Jo Helson, Steven Reid, Dean Rule, Paul Schloeffel, Jake Westlake, and Matt Wheat. Thank you for all the hours that you and your patrol teams contribute to our club. I would especially like to congratulate Ryan Gaetani for obtaining the prestigious Patrol Captain of the Year Award for the season. We farewell Matt Wheat as this is his last season in this role. Thank you for leading your team members during your time as Patrol Captain. I would like to thank Stuart Graham, a member of Matt s patrol, who has stepped up and offered to take on the role of Patrol Captain. Members who compete in SLSA approved competitions are required to fulfill a minimum of 25 hours patrolling in the previous calendar year. To encourage members to turn up to their allocated patrol and ensure that all our patrols are adequately prepared, the 25 hours needs to be completed on your own patrol. If you are unable to make a patrol and arrange a substitute, then the hours that you repay as a substitute in return will count towards your 25 hrs. Members may still do other voluntary and substitute patrols but these hours will not contribute towards your 25 competition hours. If due to work commitments or other personal reasons this is not possible, then members may put in writing stating their request for exemption to the senior executive committee in advance. At our Senior Presentation Night the club recognised a group of members for their long service to lifesaving patrols by presenting them with the National Patrol Service Award certificate and badge. Our club uses the criteria of consecutive 100% patrol attendance starting with a minimum 10 years service and increasing by 5 year increments. Greg Boess, Chelsea Flood, and Steve Reid received the award for 10 years of service. Mark Curci received his 15 years service award and Bruce Kejda achieved an amazing 30 years service award. Congratulations to all for reaching this significant milestone. This season 49 members achieved 100% patrol attendance. These members have completed their total allocated hours for the patrol season. 16 with the assistance of patrols being covered by a substitute in their absence. It is important to remember that any hours you have covered by another member during the season need to be paid back either to that member, or as a voluntary on another patrol. 18 Chief Training Officer Another exceptional season. Great thanks goes out to Steve Reid for sharing the training and entering some of the proficiency data, the Patrol Captains and Mick Flood for running the bulk of the proficiency. As a club of this size it would not be possible for one or two people to get through all the Proficiencies and the amount of awards that we instruct without team work. This season we were able to achieve 96 awards from SRC to Gold medallion. The Proficiencies took a lot of work, with 562 Proficiencies being run and entered into Surfguard. The club was well represented at the South Coast Branch Board of Life Saving, with Steve Reid becoming the latest inductee. The club was invited this season to run a couple of workshops at Maroubra for Surf Life Saving NSW on how we run Proficiencies and how we run the Bronze and SRC. 19 Registrar s report season This season our club membership reached a total of 650 members. The Members Portal provides the access point whereby members can join/renew their membership and make payment of fees. It provides access to resources, news, and also allows patrolling members to monitor their patrol hours throughout the season that have been entered onto the linked National SurfGuard database. Constant improvements and enhancements will hopefully improve our success rate each season in the joining/renewal process. Members participated and performed well in Sydney Water Carnivals, Branch, Country, State, and Aussie Championships. All these members who compete for our club fulfill 2 mandatory requirements: a minimum of 25 patrol hours in the preceding calendar year, and ensure that their patrol is covered by a substitute if they are participating at a carnival on their allocated patrol day. Thank you for being so diligent in addressing these key issues and helping avoid severe penalties to our club and unnecessary extra workload for our club administrators. 20 Season Cadet Report I undertook this role this season and I believe we had a great time, new skills were learnt and we all actively promoted the social side of surf club whilst keeping fit in our small team of cadets. At the start of the season we drew up a program of happenings around the club and community, in volunteering, promoting active lifestyles and the sports side of what we do. I had a lot of enthusiasm at the start of the season in regard to this program and many offering to run Sunday activities but at times this didn t happen. We have learnt from this however and will continue to improve in this area to continue to develop what youth we have at Shellharbour Surf Club. Some highlights of the season were; 1. Cadets attending Wet n wild in Sydney. The club committee assisted us with the funding of the bus trip, we attended this day and our youth members ran the nippers program. They did an outstanding job and I sat back and admired their work, it reflected all the efforts of all of our clubs age managers and coaches over the years I have been involved. I could see the direct impact that we have had on this group of young teens lives. They showed exceptional leadership qualities, compassion and could show the young participants of this program how to do nippers the Harbour way. 2. Variety of new skills weren t learnt on a Sunday morning when we had enthusiastic participants, they learnt how to do tube rescues race style, board rescues and for some we occasionally got a surf ski out of the club and attempted to have a paddle. 3. Our Cadets actively engaged in a lot of club activities from assisting with carnivals such as, ASRL, Interbranch carnival, participation in Branch Development Days and our annual appeals day. 4. A large amount has been frequenting Park run on a Saturday morning to keep their fitness levels at a fantastic level to support our roles as lifesavers. 5. During Winter, some have also been attending Saturday Ski training on Minnamurra river, numbers will increase in this area I believe once winter sports are over, the more the merrier here and it is great to see this important skill being learnt. 6. A small group actively promoted the Movie Baywatch. These kids volunteered their time and helped to raise some funds towards our surf club. 7. A small group of cadets, attended Sydney Water Series and performed well. 8. Tom Kofod and Brendan Cabor were involved last season in our South Coast Branch Team for Interbranch and represented our club proudly. Shellharbour SLSC Annual Report P a g e 20

21 9. Country titles were well represented by our cadets and they all excelled in their preferred disciplines. Teams were a huge focus and this is where we were very successful, the encouragement of these teams needs to remain a focus for the next upcoming season 10. Sunday Morning Training that I ran for cadets was well attended every week, we trained hard on these sessions and these will hopefully continue, along with Cavo s Wednesday afternoon Board Training sessions This season I will be running an Iron person, Open water Swim session on a Friday afternoon to encourage fitness and teamwork. Saturday morning Ski training sessions will begin in Summer months, off the beach as usual. This will promote more whole club training so these cadets have a variety of experience to learn from We have been building ideas to proceed into next season so hopefully we retain the great bunch of youth that we have and build a program that they can contribute to in a variety of ways. 22 G Day All Boat Captain Report Season Well another season has ended and already planning for the next has begun. The season just gone has seen the final year for the Australian Surf Rowers carnivals with our club showing that we truly know how to organise and run a largescale carnival with the ongoing support of all our members. The crews this year ran a little hot and cold, at the beginning all crews showed great promise, however almost all crews were overcome with injuries towards the end. Better luck next year. Along with the Warilla Bowls Surf Boat Premiership the Club will also be competing in The George Bass Marathon, this is a multi-stage 190km race over 6 days. Starting at Batemans Bay and ending at Eden, we are looking for support crew to help us in our journey this will involve towing of boats to differing stages, transport of rowers and one or two movements of camp. In addition, anyone with a full boat licence and competent at sea would be much appreciated. The dates are from 31 st Dec to 6 th Jan. Talking of Warilla Bowls Surf Boat Premiership. At the end of last season, I was approach by the Series committee and asked if I would consider taking over control of this event, after much consultation with our club executive and multiple other parties a sub-committee was formed from members of our club to look at the viability of this happening. I am glad to say that after a vote from our club executive we are now in the final stages of taking control of this event. Lastly, I am sad to say, because of work commitments my trusty right hand man Wayne Cooper has decided to stand-down as boat Vice Captain. Many people in the club know Wayne and know all too well the amount of work that he has put in over the last three years especially with the catering of the ASRL, well done on that effort mate. Wayne has been an absolute pleasure to work with over the last five or so years, from organising and training crews to the boring unsung tasks of paperwork and it can only be said that he has had to put up with a lot from me. Thanks heaps for all your support mate and more importantly your friendship, look forward to the George Bass Training sessions. Wayne s last row with the club will be the George Bass Marathon. 23 Carnival Organiser We did it! For the third and final year we successfully hosted the Australian Surf Rowers League National Titles. Each year there were over 300 crews of 5 people, nearly 100 officials and support staff and over 2000 spectators not including the livestream that could be viewed globally. Across the three days of the carnival, we had nearly 180 volunteers contribute in excess of 2500 volunteer hours in 16 major areas of responsibility. The ASRL carnival has put the teamwork, friendliness and dedication of Shellharbour SLSC on the map at a national level. Well done to everyone who was involved you know who you are and what you did I thank you all for a champion effort. We also hosted round #4 of the Sydney Water competition. It has been encouraging to see new faces among the volunteers as some of our long-term helpers take a well-earned break. The addition of the Lions Club volunteers has been very welcome on the BBQ too. The teamwork, friendliness and dedication of our volunteers are what enable us to host such excellent events. We held 3 of the four scheduled Club Champs this season. The combined format has worked well overall. Numbers are slowly increasing and with so many more adults getting their SRC or Bronze Medallion, I m looking forward to next season. Thanks to everyone who officiated, did water safety or IRB's, helped set up and pack up, purchased supplies or did the BBQ for the carnivals at our beach and other carnivals further afield. 24 IRB Report Season This Year has been a massive season with our patrolling commitments September April, water safety for Juniors and the carnivals our club hosted, Sydney Water, National ASRL Boat Carnival and the BlueScope Ocean Swim. It was a super human effort by all our IRB Crews and helpers in testing conditions on the Friday & Sunday of the ASRL. With the grants that were available to us this year we purchased a new boat and motor to replace our ageing fleet, and we have a new IRB Beach Trailer on its way. A special thanks goes out to the IRB crew that went to South West Rocks for the Country Championships, without you our club would have been unable to compete. We welcomed a new sponsor this year, Hitech Marine with servicing our motors and supplying our parts at cost. Thanks to Kel Campbell for their continued support supplying our fuel. 25 Junior Chairperson I express thanks to everyone for encompassing lifeguarding principles at Shellharbour, and developing another successful nipper s season (2016/17). This was made possible with the enthusiasm of nippers, age managers, volunteers, sponsors and the current junior committee. A season of many highs: Shellharbour s successfully run carnivals ASRL, Sydney Water carnival. Our club got great feedback and praise. The volunteers who helped out at the carnivals. The sponsors who have helped with the juniors. We all appreciate what you have done in making nippers better. The Shellharbour nippers looking like a team at the branch and other carnivals, the new outfits look great! A small but quality group of nippers competing at the Kiama, Sandon Point, Country & State Titles. Impressive results and I appreciate the work you have done representing our club. Excellent work carried out by all coaches at the Wednesday Board training group thank you for your input and dedication; those nippers and parents attending these seasons the hard work has paid off, your confidence in the ocean has reinforced this. Shellharbour again was well represented in Inter-branch with active competitors and coaches. The fantastic response to the Lifesaver of the year nominations; our biggest number of candidates and they all impressed us at the interview stage. A difficult task in selecting the representatives for Shellharbour; with great roles models representing our club at the South Coast Branch day. Great news with Liam Furney named South Coast Male Junior Life Saver of the year. Liam represented the South Coast Branch for the New South Wales Junior Lifesaver of the Year and did Shellharbour SLSC proud. A magnificent job done by ALL age managers, your mentoring and volunteering is first class. Also for the increased communication, with any issues mentioned straight away. Superb to see younger kids enjoy the beach in a safe and friendly environment. To Brittany and Elissa well done, looking forward to the next season. Thanks to the BBQ crew; trialling different avenues to carry out this often under appreciated task. I don t say it enough but cheers for the amazing job providing refreshments and also valuable funds for the club. Shellharbour nippers involved in a rescue. The dedication of parents turning up on Sundays with some families traveling outside the surrounding area to get here. A couple of lows this season; which will need different ideas next season to rectify: Our PA equipment, sorry for the poor quality and mumbled messages at the muster. A new system has arrived and will hopefully solve this issue. Beach set up, Pack up and IRB duties. The usual problem; if the gear comes out, the gear needs to be put away. We set the beach up and un-set the beach. The odd report of bullying in the nippers. Any bullying needs to be stamped out. Nippers are all about fun, learning and creating new friends in a safe outside environment. Registration steady, similar to last season s numbers. Water Safety near the end of the nippers, especially when the next season sports start up. The junior committee, a huge thank you, the numbers of people turning up has been impressive. Your spirited conversations and ideas have been refreshing. The club is moving forward (and sometimes one step back) with new ideas and trials. The behind the scene s work is greatly appreciate and without it we wouldn t be in such a strong position. You all deserve a massive pat on your back for making this season successful. 28 Treasurer s Report for Season Ending April 2017 I am pleased to present the Treasurer s report for the year ending April Our club s finances continue to be in a sound position, despite little operational income from the Seaspray function centre. The Council DA issue continues to drag on. Nevertheless, Other Income was in line from last year, combined with normal expenditure, helping to contribute to our financial position. Club Facilities Due to the SLSC Facility Grant (from NSW Government) our working bank account is quite healthy but these funds ($68,600- over 2 years) are allocated to specific Statutory and Mandatory tasks regarding our club buildings. Items covered include Inspection, Servicing and Maintenance costs. General clubhouse expenditure increased this season, mainly due to replacement of the kitchen shutters and commencement of our memorabilia/ refurbishment program. I mention it every season but again a special thank you to various club members for their valuable in kind support over the year helping to minimize our maintenance costs. Income Major fund raising activities included - Appeal Day, BlueScopeWIN Shellharbour Ocean Swim, Sydney Water carnival and the Navy ASRL Surf Boat Open. Grants this season include NSW Govt SLSC Facility Grant (as mentioned above) and the Australian Government, through SLS Australia, provided $5000- via BSEF (Beach Safety Equipment Fund) scheme to purchase lifesaving equipment.
