4 THE CREW The Rip Curl School of Surf goes to great effort to ensure that all our instructor and assistants are amongst the highest qualified in the world. We annually fly in certification instructors or send our crew abroad to complete levels in all of our different course disciplines; making sure we are teaching the latest and most efficent programs. We insist our front line crew and drivers also partake in our activities to give them an understand of our programs, so they are able to answer questions and more importantly share in your experience. 5 COURSE TIMES Courses are scheduled daily at 8am, 10am, 1pm and 3pm. Different disciplines and levels may require different tides, wave size and wind conditions. Let our Reservation staff know your schedule and we will make every effort to schedule your course accordingly. Be prepared for early mornings as often this time often offers the best conditions. LOCATION Rip Curl School of Surf Sanur is located on the beach front of the Prama Sanur Beach Hotel; visitors can park with in the hotel and access the school via the lobby or a 2 minute walk past the tennis courts to find the Rip Curl School of Surf, Sanur. Rip Curl School of Surf - Legian is at the bottom of Jalan Arjuna (Double Six Rd.) then turn left, travel 200m and enter between Lanai and Blue Ocean Café. EQUIPMENT & SAFETY We use quality equiptment for all activities and all kites, boards, and sails are selected to provide maximum safety and enjoyment to students at all levels. All students are provided with Rip Curl board shorts, rash shirt, legging, wetsuits, life jackets and Gath helmets for lessons together with drinking water, sunscreen, zinc and towels. 6 BEACH SURFER - LEVEL 1 In a set of 5 x 2 hrs course periode of theory, practice, practical, our Beach Surfer program allows a total novice to master the key surfing skills quickly and easily. Learn the essentials in simple, easy-to-follow steps and master the art of riding waves, paddling, forehand and back hand turns. Courses also include essential ocean knowledge, surfing secrets and safety. You will be surfing the beach break with ease and confidence. REEF SURFER LEVEL 2 Build on the basics and master the techniques of reef wave riding. In a set of 5 x 2 hrs course periode of theory, practice, practical, Level 2 courses are designed to prepare students for more challenging waves. The Reef Surfer program teaches the surfer the skills for generating board speed from the wave, transitional turns (cutbacks), paddling on behind the peak of the wave, compressions and extensions (Top & Bottom turns). Study books are utilized along with imagery coaching to ensure results. POWER SURFER - LEVEL 3 Our 5 x 2 hrs course periode of theory, practice, practical, Power Surfer program is the ultimate life changer. If your passion is to ride short boards, duck dive set waves and move to the tropics, then this program is for you. Picking up from the Reef Surfer program you will perfect your cutback, power of your bottom turn, finishing with a snap or a floater. The Power Surfer program is derived from our Rip Curl Team Rider Training Manual with direct inserts given to each student, along with performance reviews and imagery coaching. 6. Our dedicated Private course syllabus has been developed for individual tuition and coaching in specific areas. Maximum two students for 1 hour lesson per class. 8 Harness the power of the wind as you race across the warm water of Sanur in the exciting new sport of kite surfing with several levels of tuition from certified instructors, with the very latest in AIRUSH kiting equipment. IKO standard tuition is essential in this exciting adventure sport and we supply full IKO certification on completion of level 3. LEVEL 1 Designed to familiarize firsttimers with kite surfing and provide an understanding of equipment, wind and ocean conditions, followed by a simple multi-question test to check your safety skills. Course includes instruction in equipment preparation, trainer kite flying on the beach and learning how to launch the bow kite. LEVEL 2 Time to put the training to work and get wet with the kite. Taking to the water you ll learn how to launch the kite, how to position yourself and the board, control the kite in the power zone and use the kite to propel you across the water. 9 LEVEL 3 The most advanced of all of the IKO programs and the final step of full IKO certification. Once you ve mastered Levels 1 and 2, learn how to generate speed and move up and down wind. You ll also learn how to change direction and grab some air with basic jumps and aerial manoeuvres. BOARD RIDING SKILLS Concentrate on learning all necessary Board Riding skills utilizing our wakeboard boat, Kite board, Kite -harness and Kite bar n line system. Learn up wind board recovery, water starts - coming up out of the water both directions using the harness, correct body positioning & edging the board for upwind riding plus turning. 16 Taking a new look at an old favorite, windsurfing lessons at the Rip Curl School of Surf emphasize balance and technique over strength which allows students to learn fast and easily. Your instructor will be following in a sea kayak or shadowing you on a windsurf board to maximize your results from the lesson. LEVEL 1 Beginning with a beach simulation, we teach you all you need to know about equipment prep and making the launch before moving into the water and learning techniques for starting, sail recovery, accelerating, turning the board and moving up and down wind. LEVEL 2 Slip into a harness and take your windsurfing to the next level. We teach the speed skills essential for learners to move up into jibes and deepwater starts. 23 BOAT DIVE SANUR Sanur channel and dive sites along Sanur reef has an abundance of life and, since it is our house reef, we can easily go for 1 or 2 dives depending on how energetic you are feeling that day! You will be provided with our Balinese local boat, called jukung to the dive site. PADANG BAI Padang Bai has many different dive sites, beautiful hard coral formations, soft coral and sandy slopes, coral walls, mini wrecks and artificial reef structures or an amazing muck dive. It takes approximately 1 hour by car from Sanur. Continue with jukung from the harbour that you can begin to enjoy the stunning views both above and below the water. CANDIDASA A little further north from Padang Bai, Candidasa has some incredible jukung boat dives. As these dive sites are more prone to strong currents this dive area is only available to divers with the sufficient experience. These pristine reefs are full of majestic marine life and have something very special about them! It takes approximately 1.5 hour by car from Sanur. TULAMBEN Tulamben is home to the world famous USS Liberty wreck. Underwater now for over 50 years, its 120m long structure has been reclaimed by Mother Nature and is encrusted with beautiful corals and provides shelter for an abundance of marine life. It takes about 2-3 hours by car in beautiful rice field views along the way. Once there it is a shore entry from the volcanic pebble beach and is an excellent site for beginners and advanced divers. NUSA PENIDA The islands of Nusa Penida have some of the most stunning,healthy & exciting dive sites in Bali. It boasts an incredibly high level of marine biodiversity and a place to spot some of Bali s charismatic marine species, including sharks, turtles, manta rays and the seasonal aggregation of the Ocean Sunfish. 24 INTRO DIVE This programme teaches the fundamentals of dive theory and a few of the most basic but important skills. After a session in the swimming pool you will have the opportunity to dive in the ocean to see the spectacular wonders of the underwater natural world with your own eyes. 1 swimming pool session and 1 open water dive with your instructor, all necessary equipment and dive insurance. OPEN WATER (4 DAYS) The first complete entry level certification is the PADI Open Water Diver. This will be the start of your great life-long diving adventure! This course consists of three main phases: theory (including 5 knowledge development sections, quizzes and a final exam), confined water dives (in a swimming pool) and 4 open water dives to review your skills and explore your new underwater world! ADVANCED OPEN WATER (2 DAYS) If you already have your Open Water certification and you want to further improve your diving knowledge and experience, the PADI Advanced Open Water course is the best choice. 25 BALI SUNFISH & MARINE PARK (2 DAYS) This specialty consists of a half day of theory looking at the different species of sunfish and more specifically at the sunfish that we find here in Bali during the infamous sunfish season. All the information in this course is based on scientific research and is part of ongoing research into the sunfish in the Bali area through the Sunfish Research project. It also gives information about our local marine park, diver codes of conduct and further insights into the links between all these topics and how it fits into the wider context of marine tourism and environmental conservation efforts The second day will be 2 dives within the marine park focusing on the diver code of conduct and the chance to witness the awe inspiring sunfish itself, in all its massive glory!
