3 Vice Presidents Report May is here and we are finishing up the beach projects we have been doing good work know for three or four weekends let s finish up strong. Spring Meet is in three weeks and we are in the final touches to the weekend s events and activities. Please come out and support the club and make the event a great time. 4 Beach Conservation Thanks to all the volunteers that attended the projects. Numbers were down but accomplishments were up. Hope to see more in the fall projects. Thank you all who came to Spring Meet I was great to meet our members in person and put together names and faces. It seems like it was a great time had by all who attended. For those who did not attend, I will be putting together supplements to be mailed in the next few weeks. Its not to late to pay this year s dues. You can do so online or mail in a renewal form. 6 BEACH REPORTS Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, MA Race Point North is open for approximately.2 miles, Race Point South is open to Exit 8, The Pole Line Rd is open to a small area near Hatches Harbor, The Crossover is open for approximately.2 miles, Coast Guard Beach is open for Night Fishing Only for approximately.25 miles. An SCV area has been established on Race Point North. 7 Sandy Neck Beach, Barnstable, MA Hi all and greetings from the mid cape. Memorial Day Weekend is here and so is the kick off to this year s beach season. As of May 23 rd Sandy Neck is open to trail 6. I will try to update as quick as possible for any closures throughout the season. The gate house is now open from 8am 4pm Sunday Thursday and till 9:00PM Friday and Saturday will increase again further into the season. Remember day vehicles need to be past the gate house by 9PM (any day of the week) to be allowed access onto the over-sand beach. The beach is currently open from 8AM-11PM unless actively fishing and open to trail 6. You must be off the beach and aired up by 11PM (Day use vehicles). (Fees will be the same as last year) $85 for residents and $170 for non-residents. Check the web site before you head out to the beach, here! 8 Horseneck Beach State Reservation, Westport, MA Park Office Reservations , Pay and Display machines have been installed at the main beach parking areas to help expedite parking. Plover monitors have been at the beach watching out for the nesting areas. They had to reroute a 5K race a few weeks ago due to plover nests. The beach is in good shape and hopefully it will be a good summer. Staffing should be arriving in a few days. The beach will be under a new manager as Milton Brightman retired this past winter. The campground is opening Thursday, May 25, There are some sites still available for May and June. If you have any questions, please me. Sue Kelly, Horseneck Beach Rep Skelly529@aol.com Scusset Conservation Project 2017 Scusset Beach, 140 Scusset Beach Road, Sagamore, MA Photo by Diane Lomba As of this writing the reservation is closed to camping and reopens May 25 for the summer and fall season. The Spring Project was completed the 13 th of May with Friday night camping we had a great Fire and had 21 volunteer s. I d like to thank all who came out and special thanks to Bob& Marlene S. (cooking, brownies), Erik B., (wood), Diane, Rich & Terry (deserts) & my best friend Charlene helping to put it all together. We hope you all enjoy Spring Meet & your Beaches this summer. 9 Chapin Beach: On April 23 rd we did a general Cleanup of Chapin beach see report below on Crowes Pasture for further information. Chapin is open according to the calendar on the town site below. Always check it for times and tides. Crowes Pasture: Crowes Pasture is open and you can check the link below for current conditions. We had a good project on April 23 rd with 35 people there. We did a general cleanup of the beach and put up some new and readjusted some old poles and ran symbolic fence. Brian and Chris started us off and Chris stayed with us though out the project. As always Karen, Brian and Chris are extremely appreciative of the work we accomplished. 10 Promotionals Spring Meet was a great success! I want to thank everyone who purchased MBBA merchandise. Your support is greatly appreciated. I also want to thank the promotional committee members Melissa Kelly, Angela Bumpus, Amy Petipas-Ashley and Sarah McNeill for their great salesmanship and time spent behind the tables. Thank you to everyone else that helped unload and load the totes each day. If anyone is looking to purchase merchandise, please me with what you are interested in, and I can let you know if we have it in stock. We do not have all items in all sizes.
