3 past to present 1 Lagan prides itself on the significant degree of self-sufficiency within its operations. Peter Lagan Peter Lagan, father of Kevin, the present owner of the Lagan Group of Companies, opened his first quarry at White Mountain on the outskirts of Belfast in 1960 and Lagan has been a name synonymous in the quarrying and construction industries of Ireland ever since. Lagan still remains in private ownership and the workforce employed in the various and diverse operating companies is supported by a substantial ongoing reinvestment in modern plant, equipment and stone reserves. While individual companies may call on the combined financial and technical resources as well as the expertise and synergistic support of each other, they are free to pursue a policy of independent operation. Indeed, Lagan prides itself on the selfsufficiency of its operations. Such autonomy ensures that Lagan companies remain responsive to local market needs whilst allowing staff to build excellent relationships with customers.
4 2 quarry and asphalt materials 3 Cork Quarry Lagan was founded on quarrying which remains a core activity and is an integral part of associated operations. Operating six quarries in the Republic of Ireland, Lagan produces Limestone, Hardstone and Sand for internal and external markets. The materials produced include the constituents for Asphalt materials and products used in the Civil Engineering and Building sectors. Supported by on-site laboratories this attention to detail and insistence upon quality has resulted in ISO 9000 accreditation throughout the company s operations. Quarries: Duleek, Co Meath Kinnegad, Co Meath Mountain House, Co Meath Foynes, Co Limerick Carrigtwohill, Co Cork Coolrain, Co Laois The substantial re-investment in fixed and mobile plant combined with the continual upgrading of an extensive fleet of vehicles demonstrates Lagan s unrivalled commitment to the Quarry Division. A network of eight strategically located production facilities satisfies the demands of the road, pavement and construction industry. In addition to material supply, these companies also undertake their own contracting works, with a variety of contracts and projects undertaken, varying from multi-million pound airport and highway contracts to term maintenance contracts and minor road works. 6 6 bitumen-logistics bitumen-storage 7 The bitumen division is now at the leading edge of binder and emulsion technology. A modern terminal in Dublin receives cargoes of crude bitumen sourced from world markets and can manufacture to a fine degree of accuracy straight run and cut-back bitumens. With total storage capacity in excess of 10,000t, Lagan Bitumen has the capability to produce over 100,000t per annum. Lagan operates its own dedicated Bitumen ship with carrying capacity of 6,200t. This vessel enables Lagan to manage and control the supply of Bitumen between refinery and terminals.
7 8 bitumen-polymer modified bitumen-emulsion 9 Lagan Bitumen operates a state of the art polymer modified bitumen production facility at its Dublin port terminal. This fully computerised controlled operation can produce a range of products for both hot mix and emulsion. The polymer modified bitumen plant has storage capacity of 500t of feed stock as well as 500t of finished product. The plant produces polymer modified bitumen of the highest quality and has been awarded with ISO 14001, and 9001 accreditation. Lagan Bitumen has a dedicated QC/QA laboratory based at its bitumen terminal. Production covers a range of unmodified and polymer modified bitumen emulsion. Lagan Bitumen has become a market leader supplying both county councils and private contractors. This is a fully computerised operation which has 500t of storage capacity. Operating to the highest quality standards, all products go through a vigorous testing regime at its in-house laboratory prior to despatch. All products are tested to the latest European specification.

Dublin port tunnel M8 Fermoy to Michelstown This work was undertaken alongside various airfield projects and the annual maintenance work undertaken by the Local Authorities in every county. Investment in innovative laying processes and plant keep Lagan at the forefront of paving technology. Material Transfer Vehicles and High Compaction Screeds being just two examples. Through a commitment to R&D, High Performance Materials such as Thin Surface Courses have been developed that are durable, deformation resistant, reduce noise and spray and offers excellent ride quality. The use of Polymer Modified Binders offer further enhancements.
9 12 highway maintenance 13 High friction surfacing Road marking To complement the traditional surfacing operations Lagan also undertakes the following Highway Maintenance activities. Road Marking Line Painting Road Studs High Friction Surfacing and Traffic Calming Systems Line painting Road studs Lagan enjoys an enviable customer portfolio developed from a deserved reputation for quality, reliability and customer service. Understanding the challenges facing Lagan customers, Lagan strives to complete the job efficiently, safely and to the highest standards. Highly trained technicians specialise in proven preparation and methodology and in addition have the best technology and purpose built trucks at their disposal.

The company recently secured a contract in Poland, building a section of the main A1 motorway with a total of 300,000t of asphalt materials. Lagan continues to explore new territories and the company s presence in Doha, Qatar, will be key as preparations get underway for the 2022 World Cup. Edge compaction with roller attachment, Poland Doha, Qatar
11 16 systems and certification Great emphasis is placed on the wellbeing and welfare of our employees, contractors and visitors. Health and Safety with independent accreditation to OHSAS is the number one priority for Lagan. Our philosophy with regards to Safety is; Zero Harm - Make Safety Personal. Quality systems are evident throughout the Lagan businesses. Accreditation for CE Marking of products and ISO 9001 emphasises the very high standards applied to the manufacturing processes. Lagan s Environmental Management systems are independently accredited to ISO and the Sustainable development and biodiversity policies at Lagan have been recognised by a number of Environmental Awards over the years. Lagan s Community Involvement Programme seeks to build and maintain strong links with local residents, schools, businesses and other local groups in the surrounding area, to ensure that they are not adversely affected by its day to day operations, while keeping them informed of all developments and successes within the company. Lagan: Into the Future As Lagan becomes more environmentally sustainable, it will become more economically sustainable. Lagan intends to further reduce its consumption of fossil fuels, by increasing the use of locally sourced renewable alternatives. Lagan is continually seeking to go beyond environmental compliance requirements in relation to emissions to air, by installing continuous monitoring equipment and the installation of the latest process improvements and treatment technologies.
