1 NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER What s Inside: NOVEMBER 2015 MR VACCINATION NOVEMBER GUESTS MAKE-UP MEETINGS BOTTLE HOUSE DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT OSTEOPOROSIS SOCIETY M R V A C C I N A T I O N C A M P A I G N The Measles and Rubella vaccination campaign is organized free of charge for all children living in Egypt aged 9 months to 10 years old. Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna member Dr Diana Gamal coordinated the program in Hurghada and El Gouna which began on Saturday 31st October The Rotary Club members helped with the preparations by printing and distributing flyers and posters beforehand to raise awareness for the campaign. The Rotary Club also prepared an awareness campaign on their Facebook page which has over 1000 followers. Friends of Rotary shared the news of the campaign on their Facebook pages too. As the campaign began on 31 st October, Rotary members dressed up and joined a Halloween parade in Abu Tig Marina in El Gouna to make sure the parents were all informed. Dr Diana Gamal is the Resident Doctor of Family Planning and Women s Health at El Mina Health Unit in

2 Hurghada. The work began at Saint Joseph School in Hurghada where 900 children were successfully vaccinated by Dr Diana and her team. The Rotary Club also responded to a request from the doctors and nurses to donate cool boxes and ice packs which were used to keep the vaccines at the correct temperature during their visit to all the schools and nurseries. The next event was at the Happy International American School in El Dahar in Hurghada on Tuesday 3rd November where 700 children received their vaccinations. On 5th November, the campaign reached 75 children at Kid's Park Nursery which is owned by Rotary Club member Asmaa Badr, and the team then moved to the Futures School in Hurghada to vaccinate 420 children. Rotary Club Vice President and Pediatrician Dr Rafeek Ramzy was also on hand to offer his support at these events. The campaign continued until Saturday 21 st November with around 70 nurses and 30 doctors working tirelessly every day at Governmental and private schools, and nurseries. Six health units were also kept busy dealing with the children aged 9 months to 3 years of age. We just took Fridays off to rest, said Rotarian Diana who expressed her appreciation for the help received from her fellow club members. The awareness campaign organized by the Rotary Club of Red Sea El Gouna really made a difference, she said. Parents saw the posters and called the health units to find out more information. At the end of the three weeks, around 54,000 children were successfully vaccinated. At the end of the three weeks, around 54,000 children were successfully vaccinated. The campaign moved to El Gouna on Sunday 8th November, starting at the El Gouna School where 180 students were vaccinated in the national section and 40 in the international section. Rotary members Sally Henry, Mick Verhoogen, and Georgina Cole helped with the organization and keeping the children amused while they waited their turn. Another team of nurses vaccinated children at El Gouna Hospital, and then Dr Diana s team headed to Downtown El Gouna to the nurseries. Over 600 children received vaccinations in El Gouna that day, including at El Gouna Church, and El Tagribia public school.

3 NOVEMBER GUEST SPEAKER M O HAMED EL S HAER Dr. Mohamed Salama El Shaer has twenty years experience in the field of tourism and holds a Doctorate of Business Administration in the major of accessible tourism development from central Atlantic University Delaware USA. He joined our Rotary meeting on W E L COMING R O T ARIANS FROM POLAND On Tuesday 17 th November, we welcomed two guests from Rotary Club Poznan in District 2230 in Poland. Pawel and Dorotha Sobaszkiewicz have a home in El Gouna and visit regularly. Their Rotary Club was established 25 years ago and meetings are held over dinner. Pawel and Dorotha will visit again in January 2016 and Rotary Member Mick Verhoogen will explore the possibilities of twinning our two clubs. Tuesday 3rd November to talk about road safety, and accessible tourism for those with disabilities. Dr Mohamed Salama also talked about his foundation which specifically supports those with disabilities by enabling projects that provide job security and a long term income.

4 M AKE-UP M E E T I NGS AROUND THE WORLD Rotary Member Nader Macar visited Rotary Club of Trier in Germany at the end of November. The club is 43 years old and has 37 members. Trier is the oldest Roman city in the mid-west of Germany near the border with Luxemburg. Rotary Members Laila Aggag and Danielle Giles have also been busy visiting and exchanging banners with the Rotary Club of Jumeirah in Dubai UAE. The club is for men only and their recent project has been helping the refugees. They were surprised at how many members the Rotary Club of Red Sea El Gouna has acquired so quickly, and also impressed by the number of projects completed so far.

5 E NVIRONMENTAL PROJECT HOUSE OF UP-CYCLING to form bricks out of the lower part of the bottles. With the help of El Gouna Recycling Plant, wooden trees that had been cut next door to the Fish Farm to build a sports field were used to build a roof and ledges and frames for open windows. During Earth Week 2014, the community of El Gouna began a project to raise awareness of recycling. A bottle house of El Gouna Fish Farm was designed and building work began laying foundations of plastic bottles filled with sand. Members of Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna joined to help this project in The structure was completed on 8th November 2015 and the only work remaining is to tidy up the cement areas and cover with white gypsum. Work progressed to glass bottles and a fish design was incorporated in the main wall by cutting clear glass bottles in half

6 C O M I N G UP IN D E C E M B E R A very special occasion coming up on 15 th December with the visit of the District Governor Adel Hafez. Committee Heads are busy preparing their presentations about the activities of the club. On 17 th December at 7.30pm the Egyptian Society for Osteoporosis and Geriatrics will be talking with the local community and doctors. On 18 th and 19 th December the club will be organizing a blood donation campaign at the Cheeky Monkeys Christmas Bazaar in Abu Tig Marina, El Gouna. The vehicle will be ready to collect blood between 12pm and 7pm on both days.
