College Council this week will have ratified the 2015 Student Engagement Policy, 2015 Mobile Device Policy, 2015 Evacuation Procedures Policy, 2014 Annual Report, Strategic Plan and the 2015 Annual Implementation Plan. All these documents will soon be placed on the College website I invite, on behalf of College Council, our school community members to make themselves familiar with any or all of these documents.

2 We have another busy week ahead this week with an Out of Uniform Day (Crazy Hat Theme) this Thursday gold coin donation to support raising funds for our Breakfast Club (which began last week much to the leadership and drive of Mat Long and Laura Hepburn). This week we also have our House Athletics Carnival on Friday a reminder that students are expected to attend, take part either in the events or as supporters for their house. We have a 2:30pm finish. A very important community event is set for this Friday with the Euroa Relay for Life taking place at the Euroa Showgrounds. Our College has a team sorted for this event thanks to Mr Bott and the SRC. Raising money to help our collective fight against cancer is the goal of an event like this as well as bringing a community together in a united way. I comment this event to you all and encourage you to get along to support, take part, donate time and/or money and generally bask in the supportive glow our community provides. Some forward planning and information for families our family teacher interviews are set for weeks three (Tuesday 28 th April, 4:15pm-7:15pm) and four (Tuesday 5 th May, 4:15pm 7:15pm). These interviews will all be booked online this year in an attempt to create a smoother and subsequently more informative opportunity for feedback/dialogue between classroom teachers and families. Bookings online and the instructions of how to do this will be in newsletters early next term but will be similar in nature to the booking process the College implemented for book collection days where the feedback was quite positive. Interview slots will each be ten minutes with the intention of having 7 to 8 minute conversations followed by a quick change-over time to allow the next interview to start on time etc I applaud our staff in having a go at changing this process and encourage families to book in early. A conversation at home as to who teaches what might be in order! Finally, may you all have a safe, restful and enjoyable break! Uniform Order forms may be left at the office at any time with payment, an orders cannot be processed without payment. The uniform is then collected at the office when in. Visitors - Please note that ALL visitors to the school MUST sign in at the front office first, before proceeding any further. No exceptions. (Volunteers, Parents/Guardians, Tradespeople etc.) School Buses Parents driving their students to school are reminded that students should be dropped off and picked up at the Campbell Street entrance to the school, near the front gates. NO PARKING or entering the school car park during bus times. The school bus service is not there to provide transport to get to after-school jobs or sports training etc. Any bus traveller who needs to make a one off request to change buses needs to give Mr. Bott or Mr Watson a note signed by a parent/guardian on the morning of the day of such a request. Be mindful that the answer may have to be no. There is no room at all on the Avenel, Nagambie & Violet Town Buses.

3 Music News Please note that all Year 7s who are intending to learn an instrument need to get their instrumental tuition forms and payments into the Office by Wednesday 25th March. This is so that we can get the lessons started and instruments allocated before the end of Term 1. Thank you Janet Street Music Director Monday s Maths Marvels It has been great to see some fantastic efforts on IXL this term, with students practising their Maths on the program both in class and at home. This week, over problems were answered by students on the program. Breakfast Club On Tuesday mornings before home group, breakfast will be available for a gold coin donation in the cooking rooms (A3). Come along, all students are welcome to have breakfast. This will include food such as ham and cheese toasties, Hash browns, toast, yoghurt and muesli, fresh fruit, juices, milo and more! All you need to bring is a gold coin donation to have breakfast.

4 Hume Swimming Finals The Hume Swimming Finals were held in Wodonga last Tuesday and the weather was set to miserable cold once again. Yes, you heard correctly. Three swimming meets and a round robin sport day and the weather has been set to windy for all of them. You wouldn t read about, except that you are, and it s all true. Luckily, for our 17 strong team, it was if they had been training in these conditions all year and weren t too perturbed by the environment. With most of our team specialist relay swimmers, they had a long wait as the individual events were run first. Darcy Willox and Christos Zintilis gave their Breaststroke and Butterfly events, respectively, a good shake, but were down the lower end of the field once the wall came into sight. Balin King was setting the pace early in his Backstroke event out in lane 8, but as the race neared the end, he ran out of steam and hit the wall in third place, just 6 tenths of a second behind the winner. Clare Kelly was enjoying her last hurrah as a Secondary student and joined the colour of the St. Patrick s Day collecting a green medallion in her breaststroke and freestyle events. By the time the relay events started, the sun was out the students were chomping at the bit to get into the water cool off. The 14 year old boys team were in the hunt early, but as the baton changed hands they slowly tumbled down the table. Similar story for the 15 year boys team which lacked the consistency displayed by some of the bigger schools. Success was seen from our senior teams however, as the 17 year old boys squad of Curtis Hoare, Josh Dowell, Alex Williams and Balin King finished second in their freestyle relay. The 20 year old girls also finished third in their race. Once again Clare Kelly anchored the team, and was set up extremely well form young guns Georgina Ulrich, Julia Finnigan and Charlotte Morris. Our team, finished 19th overall for the day, and weren t as potent as anticipated with two of our senior swimmers missing the meet due to Camp commitments. Well done to all the students who participated on the day, who are as hungry as ever to taste more success at this event, and try to reach the State Finals.

5 Unit 1 Outdoor & Environmental Studies- SURF CAMP On Thursday 26 th February the Year 11 Outdoor & Environmental class braved the 6:30am departure time to drive to Torquay for surf camp. After 3 hours in the bus, we arrived at the beach for a Rock pool Ramble, run by an environmental education company called Ecologic. We learnt to recognise millions of years old fossils encased in limestone, and different living creatures and plants in the rock pools. Our class was extremely lucky to see a blueringed octopus in broad daylight; it survived a near miss from Jas foot. After lunch we had our first surfing lesson with Go Ride A Wave. By the end of the 2 hours, everyone had successfully stood up on a board at least once, and had fallen off many more times. Mr Bright also tried out his handstand skills for the Ripcurl Pro. Stand up paddle boarding (or S.U.P.ing) was next. This was a first for all of us. One half of the group spent their time doing yoga poses and pirouettes, falling in as much as possible, and the other half tried as hard as they could not to. That night we slept in tents at a caravan park and cooked on a barbeque or Trangia. At dark, Mrs Saxon and Mr Bright took us back to the beach for beach games on the sand. In the morning we went to the Torquay Surfworld Museum and learnt about the history of surfing in Australia and the pacific. We watched part of a film about 2 surfers who went to the USA to surf in all 50 states. Everyone was in awe of a clip we watched on big wave surfing. Before we went home, we drove to Anglesea for another surfing lesson. Everyone improved heaps, and we were very tired on the way home. Thankyou Mrs Saxon and Mr Bright for taking us on the camp.
