This week we ll learn all about the motion of the ocean including waves and currents and why beaches have the conditions they do. We ll explore the unique life in coastal habitats and even catch some waves ourselves! 2 RAINBOW REEFS June 11-15, 2018 Coral reefs are also known as the rainforests of the sea. They are among the most diverse and colorful ecosystems on Earth. This week we will investigate all of the unique colors and camouflage found on Hawaii s coral reefs. The week will conclude with an opportunity to snorkel on one of Maui s pristine coral reefs and see the rainbow reefs for ourselves! Campers will learn all about the unique methods ocean creatures use to communicate with one another, from the voice of a shrimp to the song of a humpback whale. This week we will learn all about the deep ocean habitat, the living things found there, and how they survive in the deep, dark, cold water. We will also learn how scientists study and explore the deep ocean, and even take a trip to visit the deep for ourselves! Through legends, field trips, and other activities, campers will learn how the Hawaiian Islands formed, how living things came to the islands (including people), and gain an appreciation for the life in the unique habitats of the islands.
