3 Unit LG03 - Foundation Paddle Board Competence and Knowledge Demonstrate the underpinning skills, knowledge and competence to undertake rescues paddling a board 1.1 Identify knowledge of personal safety points for the rescue board 1.2 Explain procedure if in difficulty, in surf, on craft 1.3 Demonstrate ability to negotiate waves in prone position 1.4 Demonstrate a left 360 degree turn and a right 360 degree turn beyond the wave area 1.5 Demonstrate ability to ride a wave to the shore 1.6 Complete a 400m board paddle from shore to beyond the break and return in contact with the craft 1.7 Demonstrate a rescue of a non-breathing casualty using a board 1.8 Demonstrate deep water EAV using a board Observed demonstration or completion of multi-choice test for personal safety points when rescue boarding. - What to consider when you fall off your board - When paddling out through surf - When riding back through surf - If a craft is being washed towards you in surf Successfully answer a verbal question on the procedures if in difficulty in surf, on craft Complete an observed demonstration of negotiating appropriate sized (approximately knee high) waves in the prone position Observed demonstration of a left 360 degree turn and a right 360 degree turn: - prone, seated, or lying Complete an observed demonstration of riding a wave to shore: prone or kneeling, in an appropriately controlled manner Complete an observed demonstration of a 400m board paddle from shore to beyond the break and return in contact with your craft Complete an observed demonstration of a board rescue of a non-breathing casualty in line with the SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Manual Complete an observed demonstration of deep water EAV using a board in line with the SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Manual Unit Assessment Sheet: SLSGB Rescue Board Paddler Page 3 of 5

5 Unit LG09e - Fitness requirements for a Surf Lifesaver Demonstrate the fitness requirements needed to become a Surf Lifesaver 1.1 Demonstrate a 400m pool swim in a time no more than 9 minutes and 30 seconds. Observation of assessment criteria in a pool not less than 25 metres in length, using a front crawl stroke. (An ASA approved swim meet result or current qualified ASA swimming coach verified time, may be accepted. This is subject to SLSGB Trainer presenting verification of the Coaches Qualification certificate and the coaches signed statement of the swim time and/or an official ASA swim meet results list - demonstrated within up to 30 days prior to assessment date) 1.2 Demonstrate a 2 meter surface dive Observation of assessment criteria in a pool environment 1.3 Demonstrate a fitness test timed Run of 200m over a measured course in 1 minute or under 1.4 Demonstrate a fitness test Run (200m), Swim (200m), Run (200m) in 10 minutes or under Observation of assessment criteria in a beach environment Observation of assessment criteria in a beach/open water environment - demonstrate competent wading, porpoising and swimming.
