3 Bridport SLSC Carnival Committee Meeting Bridport SLSC have been invited to hold a Statewide Carnival by Surf Life Saving Tasmania this year, which is a tremendous compliment to the skills that SLST believe we have in the club. The club has nominated for the weekend of 15 th & 16 th February, 2014 as it is after the summer peak season, and will bring people into Bridport at another time during the year which should be good for the economy of the township. The Club will host the following events: Saturday 15 th Feb 2014 Junior Carnival Saturday 15 th Feb 2014 Ocean Swim Series Event Sunday 16 th Feb 2014 Senior Carnival Sunday 16 th Feb 2014 Surf Boats Event This is an opportunity to put this event on the calendar for Bridport. To provide life long memories of a great weekend at Bridport, a great competition, and somewhere people want to return to each year (or more). While the club will run some catering stalls on the day, we will also ask the town s service clubs, sports clubs and businesses if they would like to submit expressions of interest in doing a catering stall. At most events Club s cater breakfast (usually just a BBQ), lunch and snacks. On Thursday 12 th September at 7.30pm there will be a meeting at the Bridport Fire Station for any interest in helping on the Carnival Committee OR who can help out on the day. This is a great chance to raise funds for the club and show our north-west and southern counterparts how we do things in the North East!! Any businesses or clubs keen to submit an Expression of Interest in providing other catering stalls please see this month s BridREport for details OR the secretary@bridportslsc.org.au for more information.

12 Summer Rangers Program Bridport SLSC would like to thank all the organisations that supported the Clubhouse Construction and Revegetation Training and Employment Pathways Program. Parks and Wildlife have now offered to work with our Nippers to learn more about coastal marine life and beach environment this summer. This may occur as part of our normal Nipper Program or as an additional day. Watch this space! Club Championships All registered, paid members can enter the Nippers Club Championships which will be on Sunday 02 March Registration (and photos) from 9am. Starting at 10am. Usually goes for around 3hrs. Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. Medals for Age Group Champions (Boys and Girls) and participation (completing all events & a good y to competition). Club Championships Sponsor We are hopeful that the Roberts/Moase Family who sponsor the Club Championship Medals last year will support this event again. The Roberts/Moase Family have a long association with Bridport and the club. See more details about this on the BPSLSC website History of the Club. Clubhouse Building Update If you have been down to the Clubhouse site recently you will see that we are pretty close to having our first level of our Clubhouse completed to lockup. We are now awaiting the weather and a small amount of additional funding to complete the roof. The Federal Labor Government has recently pledged an amount to assist with this should they be reelected. We know the other parties also recognise the value the SLSC will bring to the Bridport Community and are hopeful they will match this pledge. Note that the funds were never expected to complete the internal fit out of the clubhouse. Any sponsorship or funding to cover the outfitting of the Showers, Toilets, Kiosk, Training Room and Admin is very welcome.

M: BPSLSC Membership Remember that you must wear your 2013 membership bracelet to attend, and spot checks will occur Membership Fees will be set in October. These will be sent out via SurfGuard at this time. Invoices for Membership will occur around the same time. Emergencies Remember: in case of emergency- it s the same drill as usual... Call 000 and ask for Police. The Police Radio room have protocol to follow & a direct line number to Surf Life Saving Tasmania who will deploy Bridport. SLST will know who to contact, who is rostered on and available. Once we have a clubhouse all medical equipment, rescue equipment and boats/vehicles will be at one place for collection and deployment. Over winter our Surf Life Savers have been involved in state-wide and intrastate training & exercises on the East Coast and in Brisbane. Great job fellas!
16 Emergency Rescue Response Service Paul Hawkins, Life Saving Services Manager for Bridport SLSC, is now calling for qualified Bronze Medallion Members to join the Emergency Rescue Response Service. This is a 24/7 callout service for North East Tasmania which will respond when contacted by the public or police to emergency situations. Training will be around search and rescue techniques and procedures, and working in collaboration with other emergency response groups like Tasmania Police, the State Emergency Services and volunteer Coastal Marine Groups. See below a fast approach onto the rear of the Jet Boat. Involvement in the ERS requires a greater level of training to be able to crew or drive the Jet Rescue Boat, and develop advanced IRB Skills and Emergency First Aid & Resuscitation/Defibrillation skills. An on-call roster will aim to allow ERS members to be able to schedule around personal and work commitments. Sponsors Season 2014
