3 *All Age Managers must be a current financial member of SLSA and have their SLSA Age Mgrs Award *ALL THOSE who assist on the beach in any capacity must be a current financial member of SLSA *All those who assist in the Water MUST be a current SRC/ Bronze qualified, proficient and be a financial member of SLSA

13 Junior Dev Resource Kit - Surf Education Participant focus - not competence focus All Age Groups have lesson plans to utilise This is the SLSA resource for delivering Nippers & are to be used on the beach, for Surf Ed and Skills Training

14 Creating a Safe Environment Asses the environment Know the kids history and abilities What to do in case of an issue or an emergency - see Patrol No Under 6 s or 7 s in the Water in any situation SLSA Water Safety Ratios must be applied all WS personnel with tubes Patrol must be on the beach prior to Nippers in the Water

15 Age Managers and your Nipper Group Time with kids - 9 seasons = 6 mths fulltime Help them grow - a long term positive impact One of the major influences in their life in SLS and outside

17 SLSA Water Safety Policy Water Safety Supervisor in place (not in water) Water Safety Risk Assessment form completed with Patrol Captain/Lifeguards Ratio 1:5 or 1:4 If High Risk then No Nippers

19 SLS Sydney Development Camps Under 13 s: 30 Nov - 2nd December 2012 Under 11 s: 1st Feb-3rd Feb 2013 Approx 200 kids across the clubs attend the camps

20 Who should go to Development Camp? Nippers who show solid commitment, great attitude, assist at Nippers, well behaved, long term attendance,...and want to be a Surf Life Saver. These camps are about personal development, skilling young lifesavers in training and assisting in retention

21 What do we do on Dev Camp? Leadership, Teamwork, Activities CPR - First Aid & Tube rescues Jet ski and Lifesaver 1..and the food is great

27 Surf Sports: Overview on the Branch Emerging Athlete Program This Program is developed for Emerging Athletes Those Nippers who do well (6th-10th), but may need some technical assistance to go to the next level

30 Branch Carnival: Location Wanda 17th Feb 2013 Proposed same format as last season - 1 day Carnival Championship Carnival therefore defined level of Surf Skills required Jnr and Level 1 Officials per club Water Safety and IRB Teams from each Club Entry Fee - $5 per competitor

31 Coaching: Level 1 Surf coaches in attendance Water Safety ratios apply during ALL Nipper Coaching sessions Ensure Coaches are accredited and insured

32 Integration of Parents into Nippers as Age Mgrs, assistants, water safety Training/Info sessions Delivering an overall package for Families, not just for the Nippers themselves

33 Provide social events and an enjoyable time for the parents via Age Groups, via Nippers, & via the Club Training for parents - gives them knowledge - greater assistance to the AM s

36 Current Plan for Branch Youth Forum - Reps from each club :Development Day for leadership/development/skills :Increased participation by the SLS SydneyYouth in the SLS Sydney Lifesaving Champs (Coogee Carnival) New SLSA Resource Package for U15 s-19 s coming out

37 Under 14 s Retention Integration with Patrol in the 13 s Lifesaving Training in earlier Age Groups Mentoring program with Patrol & Competition Members Give them an identity within the club Deliver some structure in U15 s Awards Pathway - so they know direction
