1 Mar - May 2017 Volume 5, Issue 2 DIRECTOR S Corner Howdy HOGs! This year s riding season is about to slow down a bit with our desert temps creeping up into the triple digits. We have had an awesome start to our 2017 year with 9 group rides, two overnight rides and over 2300 miles together so far with more to follow! We have some great things planned for our riding for the rest of the year so keep in touch on our web site and calendar thoughout the summer. 3 Dana Point Overnight March 14, 2017 Michael Hardwick Had a great little get away with 16 riders on 5 bikes and 4 trikes. We hit the road early with Road Captain Butch at the front of the train and stopped at the Cahuilla Casino for a free beverage and stretch break. Off to Temecula Harley Davidson for some shopping and then over to the Swing Inn for a tasty lunch. We headed out and up Ortega Hwy and down into the cool beach temps for our last leg to the hotel. We all met for dinner and walked down along the marina to an awesome meal. Early morning ride up the coast had us back and checked out of the hotel by 12 noon and heading east back to civilization and the desert. Thanks RC Butch and all the fine folks who joined us! 3

5 Pre-Laughlin March 31, 2017 Michael Hardwick Our annual Pre-Laughlin Run had an outstanding 40 riders this year on 15 bikes and 7 trikes. Early start from the dealership lead by Road Captain Doc had us in 29 Palms and fueled up for the second leg to lunch at Najah s in Goffs. Great weather stayed with us with a bit of wind but that s part of riding and getting to the river was our goal. As usual, Kimmie had our parking set up with the hotel for easy access to and from the parking garage. Saturday had two different groups heading out, one to Nipton and the others out to Bullhead city. That evening we were all hands on deck for the buffet that started with a group photo out on the lawn. Thanks Penny! Fun and games along with some great fellowship in the hospitality suite on Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday morning was back to the desert with our usual stop for snacks in Amboy. Thank you HOGs for a great turnout this year! 5

7 May 13, 2017 Big Bear Ride Owen Krings On Saturday, May 13 th, 2017, 2 motorcycles and 3 trikes with 7 total riders braved the cold, blustery weather on their trek to Big Bear Lake. It was a cold 60 degree morning (wait what, not 108 in mid May like the last 15 to 20 years) and gale force winds when they left Palm Springs Harley at 9 am. Their first stop was at Pioneer Park in Lucerne Valley. The winds were still gale force but the Temperature had warmed up to a brisk 64 degrees. Checking the current temperature in Big Bear Lake and seeing it was in the low 50's, everyone not already wearing cold weather riding gear started putting on jackets and full gloves. We left the park and had a nice, windy ride until we hit the bottom of the hill (the giant mountain now sheltering us from the winds...lol.) Once at the top of the hill, it turned into an absolutely beautiful day. No more wind!!!! Even the colder temperature felt warmer to all without the wind. We made a left on Moonridge and headed to Bear Mountain. At Bear Mountain we stopped for a quick break and photo op. With the photo done and everybody's tummy's growling from hunger, we headed back down Moonridge and back out onto Big Bear Boulevard for a quick ride to Chad's Place for Lunch. After lunch, we topped off the tanks and headed back down the hill, via the 38, hoping the winds had died down. However instead of quickly heading to the freeway, we took a detour through Oak Glen. Coming out in Banning, we jumped on the 10, hit the gas (but not that much because the gale force winds were now pushing us down the freeway all the way home. LOL.) Thanks to those that braved the cold and winds to join Road Captain Owen Krings for this jaunt! 7

8 New Members Eagle lives in 29 Palms, rides a Road King and has been riding for over 50 years! Howard lives in Indio, rides a 2006 Road King and has been riding since Bob lives in 29 Palms, rides a 2012 Heritage Softail and has been riding since 1968 Please welcome these new members that have joined the HOG family! 8
