The use of this product exposes the user to many unavoidable and unexpected risks, injury, dangers and hazards. The suppliers of this product are not responsible for any damage to property or any personal injury caused by any use, misuse, abuse or irresponsible use of this product by the user. Kiting is a hazardous sport. Power kites and their lines and control equipment can be dangerous to flyers and to anyone in the vicinity of their use. Kite flying must be taken seriously and we recommend that, at least in the early stages of your use, you seek guidance from experienced kite pilots. Improper and/or unreasonable use of this system may result in death or serious injury to any part of your body and to others. Do not use your system near power lines, airports, buildings, automobiles, trees, streets, etc. and keep your kite fly lines away from people and all obstacles. Always fly in an open area and observe wind and weather conditions, particularly in circumstances where you may encounter offshore, onshore winds or strong winds. Do not attempt to operate on water until you are confident on land. Spend time to become familiar with the operation of your system and remember that you are responsible for its operation and for the security of those around you. As you learn with this system, work within your own limitations and do not exceed them. If you intend to operate on water, always use appropriate protective gears and flotation devices and do not attach yourself or tie yourself permanently to the kite lines. Never operate near overhead power lines or during thunder storms. SX Trainer Specifications Line length: 20 m Line material: Spectra System weight: 6 lb System width: 28 Materials used: Aluminum, UV resistant plastics, Structural laminates, Stainless-steel hardware

Safety leash: We recommend using a safety leash connected to the vessel and SX Trainer. If you fall in the water, unclip the harness and deal with getting back in your boat. This should be practiced in shallow water before heading out kiteboating. Deployment: For deployment, clip on the waist harness, pull out the kite and hold it up so it fills with wind, release the kite and start reeling out with one hand on the control bar and the other hand on the winch handle. After the kite is fully deployed, release the winch handle and grip the control bar with both hands. Steering: To steer the kite, pivot the control bar. Pivot the control bar to the right and the kite turns right. Pivot the control bar to the left and the kite turns left. Traction kites enable sailing on all normal sailing courses, even upwind under the right conditions. Retrieval: For retrieval, take one hand off the control bar and grip the winch handle. Now reel in and steer the kite overhead. Tips: For kiteboating, we recommend using a rudder with foot steering or a passenger with a paddle. Secure the kite bag to the underside of the system. This way the kite is ready for quick deployment. You'll need a short length of line to tie the top of the bag around the main pivot. Tie the main spectra load line to the bottom of the bag. Remove the kite, check the bridles for tangles and connect the two control lines to the kite making sure they are not crossed and the kite is facing the right direction. Now fold the kite tips to the middle and roll up each side so the bridle lines are covered. After rolling, fold the rolled up kite in half and pack it in the kite bag. Reel-in any extra control line that is loose. Now you can easily remove the kite and it is ready for inflation and launch. Watch our instructional videos. To prepare on land for using the SX Trainer, take out the kite and check the bridle lines for tangles. Next, connect the control lines to the kite. Unwind the winch so there is enough line out so the kite can be folded and packed in the bag. When the kite is pulled out for launch, reel in all the line and some of the bridles to prevent the kite from falling back as it inflates. Launching The Kite: 1. Pull out the kite and reel in the bridle lines through the blocks on the control bar. 2. Set the system down in front of you so the control bar is perpendicular to the wind and the boat positioned cross wind. 3. Hold the kite s leading edge up with both hands and try to keep the kite tips out of the water. 4. When the kite looks about half full, grab the control bar with one hand holding the system up at a 45 degree angle with the control bar perpendicular to the wind.

5. With your other hand, first unsnag any of the bridle lines. Then grasp one of the center leading edge bridle lines and pump it gently. 6. When the kite looks fully inflated steer the boat directly down wind, release the bridle line and grab the winch handle. Now slowly reel out. 7. At this point pumping the control bar helps to clear the bridle lines from the blocks and keeps the kite overhead. If the kite drops, switch to reeling in until the kite recovers and then continue the launch. 8. After the initial kite deployment, the boat can be maneuvered across the wind to increase line tension. 9. In high winds, put a thumb on the winch when you grab the control bar holding the system up at a 45 degree angle. This will prevent the winch from spinning as the kite is inflated. People should always practice on land before heading out on the water. Practice in different wind conditions. The stronger the wind, the faster the kite will fly and react to control bar input. Use sailing gloves during operation. If you operate in salt water always rinse with fresh water after use. In preparation for launching the kite, check to see that the control lines are the same length. If one control line has an extra wrap on the winch it will be about one foot longer than the other line and cause control problems. To correct this, wrap the longer control line on the winch to take up the difference. Wrapping and unwrapping lines manually from the reel can twist the lines together so if this happens, check for twists by pulling all the line off the reel and shine a flash light in to check the lines. The lines attach to the center winch axel and each should travel strait out to the left and right blocks on the control bar. After some use, one control line may stretch out. To equal up the control line lengths, hook both control line loop ends on a nail and unwind the winch by walking backwards. Pull the lines tight and note the difference. When the lines are the same length, the control bar should be perpendicular to the tight control lines. If the control lines are not the same length, the control bar will pivot out of center when the control lines are pulled tight. To correct this, retie the longer control line. Hold the control bar perpendicular to the winds direction during launch and retrieval. Practice the transition from steering to retrieval. This action can prevent the kite from falling during light line tension. Once this is mastered, it can take kiting and kiteboating to a whole new level.

Unless the wind is steady it helps to keep the kite moving. This also increases the line tension for faster boat speed. In general, it is best practice to keep the kite moving While kiteboating, remember if the wind is strong it may take about one minute to reel in. To make this easier, turn the boat directly downwind. If high line tension is making retrieval difficult, the kite can be flown into the water and then reeled in. In light wind conditions, the kite may fly better on shorter lines. This can be performed by not fully deploying the kite. Keep one hand on the winch handle to prevent full deployment and the other hand on the control bar to steer with push and pull input. FAQ What about Sit On Top Kayaks for Kiteboating? We recommend Sit On Top Kayaks because they are stable and self-draining. What about Inflatable Kayaks for Kiteboating? We also recommend Inflatable Kayaks because they are stable and some are self-draining. What about Hawaiian Canoes for Kiteboating? We also recommend Hawaiian Canoes because they are very stable. What about Traditional Canoes for Kiteboating? A kite can be used on a Traditional Canoe but we do recommend using outrigger floats or two canoes tied together for added stability. What about Sea Kayaks for Kiteboating? A kite can be used on a Sea Kayak but we do recommend using outrigger floats for added stability. Can you sail upwind? These systems do best on downwind courses. It is possible to sail upwind but you need an efficient hull with a center board and rudder. Do you have a system for 3 or 4 lines kites? Not yet. Do I need a harness? The SX Trainer comes with a waist harness. The RX Controller is designed for direct boat attachment but can be fixed to a windsurfing or kitesurfing harness. What if trouble occurs while Kiteboating? We always have a land based assistant to help if trouble occurs and this is recommended for anyone Kiteboating.

Should I use with a leash? Using a safety leash is recommended for the SX and the RX if a harness is used. How easy is this to learn? Kiteboating takes practice. People with sailing or kiting experience will have an easier time learning.
