3 Page 3 Badminton The Parkview Family YMCA will be holding open play times for the sport of Badminton. Game play will be held in the Parkview Family YMCA gymnasium and the schedule of when you can play will be posted on the gym schedule (available online or at the member service desk). Program participants may drop in and play but they MUST register at the member service desk in order to be allowed access to the facility. The playing schedule will mirror the program schedule dates. Basic Guitar Lessons Lessons are taught in a friendly and relaxed enviornment with experienced instructors from Discount Guitar. All ages are welcome. Lessons consist of 4-45 minute sessions. Guitars are available for rent - $2.00 CPR/AED Trainings Learn lifesaving skills such as CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and First Aid. Classes are taught by certified American Red Cross instructors. This class is ideal for anyone who needs this certification for employment, works with the public or anyone who wants to have the knowledge and skill to help in an emergency situation. Dance Classes Beginning Ballet, Creative II, Fun'n'Dance/Creative I- Class instruction focuses on teaching correct body alignment, terminology and technique.through proper body alignment and technique students gain physical strength, flexibility,stamina and agility. First Aid Trainings This class will teach the basics of caring for victims suffering from various forms of first aid emergencies. This certification is valid for two years. Gymnastics-Bodies in Motion The focus will be on large and small motor skills, coordination and general body awareness. Have fun rolling, running, hopping, skipping, jumping and galloping! Gymnastics-Mom & Me The focus is on very basic large motor skills, coordination and general body awareness. Parents participate in this class. Gymnastics-School Age Level I - This is an introductory gymnastics class designed for beginning-level gymnasts. The focus will be primarily designed for fitness and basic skill development. The skills learned will include forward and backward rolls, basic cartwheels, bridges and balancing. Level II (passed Level I) - The second level focus is on conditioning and back roll tuck, handstand roll and hurdle cartwheel, round off and bridge from standing under position.

Participants engage in activities that help children build self-confidence, gain team building strategies, socialize with other home schoolers all while having fun in a safe environment. Homeschool Swim Lessons Calling all home schoolers! Get your physical education credit the fun way by registering for the Parkview Family YMCA Swim program. Participants engage in activities that help children build self-confidence, gain team building strategies, socialize with other home schoolers all while having fun in a safe environment. Jumping Jax Jumping rope maximizes athletic skills by combining agility, coordination, timing, and endurance. Come reap the benefits of jump rope and have a great time. Learn individual rope, long rope, double dutch, and even jump rope games. Jumpers will learn how to master proper forms, advanced skills, speed, doubleunders, turning, entering/exiting, double dutch and more! *Anyone who has never taken the class needs to register for Level I. Instructor determines level. Karate (Martial Arts) Instructor determines level. - It s more than just kicking, punching and chopping. For decades martial arts have helped youth learn about their inner strength. Join us for this life-skill program and kick start your growth. (Must complete Beginner before moving to the next level.) Movies That Make a Splash Looking for an inexpensive fun night out with the family? Come on out to a movie night on the splash pad! Enjoy after hours time on the splash pad, planned activities, as well as watch a movie on our new big screen. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. l free to bring your own chairs/blankets/ snacks or anything else you need to feel comfortable. We can only take 200 people, so it s first come, first serve! Get your tickets at the member services desk. New Member Reception Take 30 minutes to learn more about what the Y has to offer and receive a $30 YRewards card good toward Y programs. Register at the Member Services desk. Open to all members. Parents Night Out Need an evening out without the kids? Let us provide dinner and entertain your 5 to 12 year old while you have an evening out. We will have fun swimming, rock wall climbing, playing in the gym and getting messy with an art project. Send your child with swim gear on under play clothes, a towel (plastic bag for wet items), and a clean change of clothes (clearly labeled). If your child would like to climb the rock wall they will need closed toed shoes. Please note, young children must be potty trained. Registration deadline is Wednesday prior to event. Running Programs This program is designed to help with the conditioning and practice of cross country running. Experienced adult coaches provide advice on running, stretching, running gamesand forms. Come dressed to run outdoor on Solomon Farm Trail or indoor on adverse weather days. There will be opportunities to compete in meets in and around Fort Wayne in September and October. Parents are responsible for the minimal meet entry fee and transportation. A t-shirt and bag are provided to all participants.

7 Page 7 Swim Lessons Parent/Child Age 6mos-18mos Lv 1 (Shrimp/Kipper) This class introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately hold their child in the water and try different skills. Children are introduced to basic skills such as, exploring getting wet, blowing bubbles, back floats, leg actions and arms actions. Swim Lessons Parent/Child Age 19mos-3yrs Lv 2 (Inia/Perch) This class introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents are taught to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately hold their child in the water and how to prepare their child to participate fully and try different skills. Children are introduced to basic skills such as, get the face wet, safe entries and exits, floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg actions. This class lays a foundation to learn to swim. Swim Lessons Parent/Child Age 3-5 Lv 3 (Pike) As an introduction to swim lessons, this course is for preschool aged children from 3-5 years old and their parent/guardian. This is a transition class from parent/child to independent group lessons; parent/guardian must be present in the water. The goal for this class is to build confidence, learn water safety practices, get the face wet, and introduce basic skills that they will learn in preschool group lessons. This class is designed to increase comfort levels in an aquatic environment until the child is ready for group lessons. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Lv 1 (Eel) This class teaches the most elementary aquatic skills, which children continue to build on as they progress through the preschool levels. Children start with developing good attitudes and safe practices around water. Skills presented are performed with support or assistance for blowing bubbles/submerging, front & back glide, front & back float, treading, and swimming on front and back. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Lv 2 (Ray) This class builds on the skills of Preschool 1. The goal for this class is to build confidence and encourage children to try skills on their own with moderate to minimal support. Skills taught at this level include: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, jumping in and returning to the wall, tread water, and swim 5 yards of combined arm & leg actions on front and back. Swim Lessons Age 3-5 Lv 3 (Starfish) This class builds on the skills of Preschool Levels at a more advanced degree. Skills at this level are performed independently. We teach children to improve coordination and combined arm and leg actions. Skills taught are: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, tread water, and swim 10 yards of combined arm & leg action on front and on back.

9 Page 9 Swim Lessons Age 6-12 Lv 1 (Polliwog) This class teaches the most elementary aquatic skills, which children continue to build on as they progress through the learn-to swim levels. Children start developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water. Skills taught include: blowing bubbles, submerging, front & back float, front & back glide, tread water, and swim 5 yards on front and back. Skills are performed with and without support. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 Lv 2 (Guppy) This class works to build confidence and encourage children to try skills on their own in deep water. Children continue to develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on their front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes. Skills taught include: submerging, bobbing, front & back float, front & back glide, 30 seconds tread water, whip kick, 2 minutes resting stroke, and swim 10 yards each of front crawl and back crawl with overarm recovery. Skills are expected to be performed with a minimum of support. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 Lv 3 (Minnow) This class builds on the skills of learn-to swim level 2. We teach children to improve coordination, stroke technique, and endurance. Skills taught include: streamline, surface dives, dolphin kick, open turns, 1 minute tread water, 25 yards front crawl with rotary breathing, 25 yards back crawl, 25 yards elementary back crawl, and 15 yards rudimentary breast stroke. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 Lv 4 (Fish) This class is geared toward swimmers who want to increase endurance and refine their stroke technique. Instructors will focus on stroke refinement drills, proper turns, and advanced strokes. Skills taught include: surface dives, sculling, flip turns, 50 yards of front crawl with rotary breathing, 50 yards of back crawl, and 50 yards of backstroke, 25 yards each of breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke, 100 yards individual medley. Swim Lessons Age 6-12 Lv 6 (Youth Conditioning) This class is designed for swimmers who want to perfect their stroke technique and stay in condition. Swimmers should have knowledge of all four competitive strokes (butterfly, back crawl, breast stroke, front crawl). Instructors will focus on drills, turns and overall conditioning. Skills taught include: Cooper Swim Test, fitness skills, proper turns for each stroke, 200 yards individual medley and 500 yards continuous swim. Class meets up to 3 times a week with discounts to participants that swim multiple days. Swim Lessons Teen & Adult Allow yourself to experience an enjoyable and versatile form of exercise. This class is designed to overcome fear of the water or develop fundamental skills and healthy habits to last a lifetime. Beginner - This class is designed for adults who want to learn the basic fundamentals of swimming, water orientation, and safety. Intermediate/Advanced - This class is designed for adults who are comfortable in the water but want to learn more about the swimming strokes and how to fine tune them.

11 Page 11 Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts is more than just kicking, punching and chopping. For decades martial arts have helped youth learn about their inner strength. Join us for this life-skill program and kick start your growth. Adult - A basic intro course designed specifically for Adults. Lil' Ninjas - Learn the beginning basics of Tae Kwon Do through games and drills. Kids will learn respect and stronger listening skills. Lvl 1 (White & Yellow Belt) - Learn the beginning basics of Tae Kwon Do through games and drills. Kids will learn respect and stronger listening skills. Lvl 2 (Orange, Green, Purple Belt) - Train in the traditional from of Tae Kwon Do which places emphasis on self defense and self improvement. Lvl 3 (Blue throug Black Belt Prep) - Experienced in Tae Kwon Do. Need instructor approval. Triathlon Each leg - swim, bike and run will have a set time limit, and your distance covered during that time determines your score. The further you go, the higher you ll place. Heats of 4 will begin every 20 minutes. All participants will receive a triathlon t-shirt and top 3 finishers will earn medals. Sign up for the heat of your choice. Swim 10 minutes, transition 10 minutes, bike 30 minutes, transition 5 minutes, run 20 minutes. Walking Programs Nordiac walking is a low impact cardiovascular workout for various fitness levels. You will learn the proper Nordiac walking technique while enjoying the company of fellow walkers. Nordiac walking poles and comfortable shoes required. Yoga This yoga workshop with Teresa Thorne will cover the ability to be in touch with the present moment by paying attention to what is happening now. Build skills to navigate your daily live more smoothly.
