Our team was very well represented at Central Region and Provincial Championships, Eastern Canadian Champs and Canadian Age Group Champs. Our trip to Buffalo was a great success and enjoyed by all. VAC Club goal remains, swimming excellence through fun, fitness and competition, enabling all swimmers to reach their maximum potential and achieve their personal goals. The goal of our coaching staff is to move VAC swimmers to a higher level of achievement. VAUGHAN AQUATIC CLUB includes the Woodbridge branch and the Dufferin Clark (Thornhill) branch. The two branches operate independently but follow the same rules and guidelines. We combine for meets, club functions and activities. Swimmers are registered with Swim Ontario and Swimming Canada. WOODBRIDGE COACHING STAFF We are pleased to maintain the services of coaches, George Jacobson (Elite I & II), Dan Foster (Advanced) and Steven Jacobson (Elite 1 & II). We would like to welcome back our Novice Coach, Greg Jacobson. Greg swam for Vaughan Aquatic Club for 14 years. He has just graduated with a Bachelor of Education and will be completing his Master of Education in the upcoming year. 2 VAUGHAN AQUATIC CLUB MEETS Each season VAC holds three swim meets which are an opportunity for swimmers to race in their home pool. The first one is a large meet with approx. 350 competitors from about 12 clubs. Medals and Ribbons are awarded. Funds raised at the meet go directly to the operation of the Club and help keep the fees down. The second meet is a Time Trial meet, which enables all our Elite and Advanced swimmers to achieve pre-requisite times to qualify for Provincials. The third meet is an Inter Squad Challenge where all VAC swimmers compete against each other using a handicap system. In almost all swim clubs in Canada, parents and swimmers are expected to do weekly fund-raising in the form of bingo, selling various products as well as paying yearly fees. The only commitment that we expect of V.A.C. parents is to qualify and move up the ladder as an official. This will entail participating in a short training course provided by Swim Ontario or VAC or doing online courses and officiating at meets. SWIMMING OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION Swim Ontario has made it mandatory for all clubs to have a sufficient number of qualified officials to obtain Meet Sanctions. In turn VAC has adopted the same policy for all our parents. There will be a fee for all non-participants. For parents of new swimmers a course will be provided during swim practice times to obtain Level 1 Certification, however, your attendance at The Swim Ontario Official s clinic on October 1, would be another good option. A meeting for all parents will take place on Tuesday Sept 27 at Vellore Village C. C., 1 Villa Royale Ave., Woodbridge L4H 2Z7 from 6:30 7:30 pm., to elaborate on our Officials Development Plan. Attendance is required and input from every parent is greatly appreciated. (New novice parents are welcome and encouraged to attend) Thanks to all our parents/officials who contributed to the success of our meets last season. FUND RAISING OPPORTUNITIES The main two opportunities are selling program advertisements for the VAC Meet and Swim-a-thon. Information will follow. Please take full advantage of these opportunities. MARCH BREAK TRAINING FOR SUCCESS CAMP For all our Elite swimmers a March Break Training for Success camp will again be provided at Woodbridge and Dufferin Clark Pool - March 10 - March 17, MASTERS PROGRAM Our Masters program will once again be available for adults 18 years of age and older. Steve Indig will be coaching the Masters group. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to participate in the Sport of Swimming. 5 FEES FOR THE SEASON VAC operates on a year round schedule. The competitive schedule for swimmers runs from September 13, 2011 to June 10, Swimmers qualifying for Central Region Long Course Championships, Provincial Championships and Summer Nationals will continue swimming up to and including the dates of the respective meets. (Schedules for Woodbridge and Thornhill branches will possibly be combined at this stage). The summer program runs approx. July 20 to the end of August - three to four mornings per week 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Our fees have increased in proportion to our increase in fees by the City of Vaughan, increase in meet fee deposit and HST. Balances on meet fee deposits will be credited to swimmers accounts at the end of the season or you will be invoiced accordingly. (Please note that credit cards used for option 3 will be charged an additional 2.5%) If meet fees exceed your deposit you will be invoiced accordingly. For families with more than one swimmer, there is a 10% discount for 2nd child and 15% for 3rd child on V.A.C. registration fees only. At registration an officiating Deposit of $ per family will be collected in the form of a post-dated cheque dated May 01, Further info regarding this deposit will be discussed at the parents meeting on Sept 27, Please make sure to attend. A meet entry and results update administration fee of $10.00 per swimmer will be charged for each meet attended. NO DISCOUNTS OR REFUNDS WILL BE OFFERED IF YOU ARE AWAY FOR ANY PORTION OF THE SWIM CALENDAR OR IF YOU TERMINATE YOUR MEMBERSHIP DURING THE 2011/2012 SEASON. Our program qualifies for the Children s Fitness Tax Credit up to $ per child per year. Receipts will be issued.
