1 Owasso Swim Club General Information-Summer Season 2016 For the 2016 year this club will operate only as a summer club. The Owasso Swim Club (OWSC) anticipates joining as a USA Swimming Team in January More info on this will be passed along after the summer season. Coach Stelzer has participated in Tri State League previously, and feels it would be a good league to participate in during the summer. Several of the meets are out doors in neighboring states which gives the swimmers a new experience, and an opportunity to meet other swimmers from the Tri-State area. Requirements: This club is being formed to keep current OHS Swimmers in shape and groom future OHS Swimmers for a successful high school swim career. Swimmers must be able to swim to be able to participate in the Swim Club. If you have concerns about the level your swimmer is at, please talk to Coach Stelzer. Practice Schedule: Tuesday Wednesday Thursday AM Alternating 6AM-8AM N/A Alternating 6AM-8AM PM 2PM-4PM 2PM-4PM 2PM-4PM Four (4) practices total each week, Tuesday-Thursday. Practices will be held at the Claremore Rec Center in Claremore, OK. The Club is keeping practices to a minimum to allow summer freedom to be embraced; therefore practices will be extremely structured and fast paced. Swimmers are expected to come to practice ready to work, and go home hungry. Laziness, drama and other distractions will not be tolerated. Parents will be informed if the swimmer is not participating in practices as required. If further action is required the swimmer will be dismissed from the team if the behavior does not improve. No equipment will be provided by the Swim Club The following equipment is required: Goggles and Race Suit (color does not matter) The following equipment is recommended if possible: Fins, Swim Paddles, and Swim Snorkel All equipment can be purchased from (Please support the OHS Swim Team by using the link to Swim Outlet off the team website: ) We recommend ARENA or TYR gear. (These brands are more expensive; however the equipment is higher quality than most off-brand )

2 Fees: Cover pool rental and coach s expenses. The Insurance/league fee is paid to Siloam Springs (team we are swimming with) in TriState. Summer League Fee (pool rental, coach) $ <May 31 st -Aug 7 th > 10 Weeks Insurance/League Fee (TriState League) $25.00 per swimmer Meet Fees (typical-could be +/- a few) $2.00 per event, $1.25 per swimmer for relays. Championship meets usually also charge a per swimmer fee of $5.00 The league fee/tristate Insurance fee is due by May 15, Spaces are limited (20 MAX), and are offered to current OHS Swimmers (and family members) first, if you intend to participate please let Coach Stelzer know ASAP. Summer Tri-State Meet Schedule- The meets in BOLD are the meets selected to attend Date/Weekend Meet Location Camping Info June 4 Claremore, OK No need for camping this is our stomping ground! June 11/12 June 18/19 Parsons, KS Webb City, MO June 25/26 Joplin, MO KOA right off the highway, make your reservations early. And State in the comments with Owasso Swim Club. Then follow up with a call after you make reservations. And then again the week of the meet. July 2/3 July 9/10 Nevada, MO Branson, MO July 16/17 Pittsburg, KS City Of Pittsburg has RV sites about a mile from the pool, no reservations are taken, but there was plenty of room last year. Call ahead of time to make sure there are open spots; we will be getting there hopefully mid-afternoon. Let us know you are coming and we will try to get you a spot. July 23/24 July 30/31 Aug 6/7 Lamar, MO B Siloam Springs, AR A Monett, MO Only an hour away if you want to drive back and forth or you can camp at Natural Falls, a beautiful campground about 20 min from the pool. Don t book until you know you will be swimming at B Champs. (if you don t make A times for all your events you can still try at B Champs) We have not booked yet until we know we will have swimmers go to B Champs. Route 60 RV Park, basically a field with electric and water hook ups, nothing fancy here, but it s the closest RV park to Monett. - He doesn t do online reservations. Call: Say you are with Coach Stelzer. He will try to put us all together, and likes to be paid in cash ;)

3 A majority of swimmers stay overnight for two day meets. Some stay at hotels and some camp. Either way it is a fun time to hang out and get to know everyone. There will be more info about the meets we will attend in mid-april when the TriState meeting is held. TriState league requires a swimmer to be at a minimum of 3 meets to participate in the Championships, the meets listed above in BOLD are the meets we as a team will attend. If you cannot attend both days of a two day meet that is ok, as long as you swim one event at the meet you are making your qualifications. *only the events you swim and qualify for will be the events you can swim at championships* Swimmers can swim 3 events and 1 relay per day in the TriState League. This summer we will not be swimming as part of the Claremore Stingrays as originally planned, their coach has chosen not to take on our swimmers; however Siloam Springs, AR team, the Flyers, embraced us with open arms. We will be swimming affiliated with the Flyers Team. So when you see SSF next to you kiddo s name on the heat sheet that is why. We will also probably be asked to help out at the B Champs Meet if we have swimmers going. Meets will typically start at 9AM and end around 2/3PM. Warm ups start around 8AM, depending on how far away we are from the meet location. The championship meets have prelim/finals morning and evening. The Club will set up a camp around the pool area including canopy tents, lawn chairs, blankets; Coach is normally on deck all day and the kids come and go from the camp as they are called to the bullpen for races. Everyone helps out! These meets run quickly and there are kids everywhere, the more eyes and ears we have looking out for our swimmers the better. We will have to help time on the pool lanes, normally in hour increments. All families are expected to be team players and take turn timing. During the summer we will not be using the REMIND feature for communication. (SCHOOL APP, don t want to blur the lines) So for the summer only please utilize texting or to get in touch with Coach. PLEASE KNOW DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR THE PREFERRED WAY FOR A SWIMMER TO CONTACT COACH IS THROUGH REMIND, NOT DIRECTLY USING TEXT. Parents feel free to call or text if you have questions, or can t find a pool location; we will try to send out info about the meet the night before (warm up times etc). 5 ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM I HEREBY ASSUME ALL OF THE RISKS OF PARTICIPATING IN ANY/ALL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH OWASSO SWIM CLUB, including by way of example and not limitation, any risks that may arise from negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or entities being released, from dangerous or defective equipment or property owned, maintained, or controlled by them, or because of their possible liability without fault. I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficiently prepared or trained for participation in this activity, and have not been advised to not participate by a qualified medical professional. I certify that there are no health-related reasons or problems which preclude my participation in this activity. I acknowledge that this Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form will be used by the event holders, sponsors, and organizers of the activity in which I may participate, and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said activity.
