3 Howick Pakuranga Swimming and Lifesaving Club Incorporated Presidents Report 2017AGM Our stated mission is: To promote, foster and encourage swimming and associated aquatic sports. Have we achieved this as a Club? I believe the answer is yes, but I will leave that up to you to decide after you have heard some of the things that we as a Club have achieved. Firstly, we saw the beginning of this season as a celebration of 50 years of being a Club, and it was nice to see such a wonderful turn out and fun had by all especially in the swimming relays, where a lot of the younger swimmers got to see the older members of the club swim. Over the years HPK has proven to be a club to watch, both in the Water and out. And this year has been no different. The business side of the club continues under the direction of Horst and the Committee to seek out ways that the club can improve, so that the coaches and swimmers have the best resources available to them. This year the focuses were on setting up an in-house gym program that is designed to specifically help the swimmers to achieve the best they can in the water. This is still a work in progress, and will continue to evolve as the program grows. The other main project that the committee has been focused on is the Howick intermediate pool, where we have finally been able to get into and use, although we have had some initial teething issues with leaks and maintenance of the pool, we believe with the latest improvements to the pool, we should be able to now make use of this space with little interruption and continue to foster the growing relationship we are building with Howick intermediate school. Achievements come in many forms and are personal to each individual swimmer. Every swimmer in our Club is a success. We are determined to give all swimmers an opportunity to reach their goals whether it is a gold medal, selection to a team, compete in a swim meet or achieve a PB. HPK Swimmers have continued to ensure the name of HPK is seen at all levels of swimming with a good representation at all levels. The Coaches have supported the swimmers under their stewardship, which has seen the swimmers train hard, race fast, achieve PBs, win medals and many have reached their goals they have set. All in all, a year that everyone can be proud of. Some of the year s achievements that HPK Club members have achieved are: 1. Swimmers and/or coaches qualified, selected for or competed in international meets, including the: FINA World champs, 13 th and 17th World University games Australian Age group champs Juniors DIV 11, placed 5 th overall Nags, placed 3 rd overall NZ Opens, placed 3 rd overall, with 2 x Nz open records in 50 and 100 free NZ open water, with all member making the top 18 rankings in their categories NZ short course placed 3 rd 2

4 2. And the Coaches who were not to be out done by the swimmers have also continued to ensure that they are seen as some of the best coaches available in NZ with both Horst (Cook Islands) and Jana (Nz)receiving Coaches of the Year. 3. Open water swimming continues to be firmly embedded in the Club. The representation of HPK in open water seems to be growing in number as well and these swimmers continue to ensure HPK s name is heard, with many of the swimmers receiving medals in their age groups, and two of our female swimmers gaining a bronze in their categories for the Ocean Swim series where they swam in different locations around NZ. The under 12-year olds were not to beaten by the older swimmers and they managed to snatch up 6 of the 36 spot on offer for the sort after Jet star swim camp held in Takapuna earlier this month. 4. Masters games provided an opportunity for some of our more mature athletes to take centre stage, our own Vicki Managed to gain a couple of medals in her other two passions (netball and tennis) well done Vicki These are only some of the achievements from the past year. Everyone is important and must be encouraged to do their very best and to enjoy the experience. This is why the Club exists. As the saying goes behind every great Man is a great woman, Well this saying can also be related to Clubs and Athletes, as behind every great Club and athlete is a great support team. I would like to thank the Support team I have had the pleasure of working with. 1. Vicki Ashley our Club Administrator. Your efforts are hugely appreciated. You are always there to support the Club, the swimmers and parents. 2. The committee executive Robin Crowe, Heather Comer and Vicki. And for the extra support from Trevor Yates and Steve Webster 3. The remainder of the committee who turn up every month and help make the club run as smoothly as it does, and also being there to always lend a hand when one is needed like, today in the Kitchen, and prior to help set up and I am sure the clean up 4. Ann-Maree Talbot, for her support with the Clubs financial management. 5. Horst Miehe Horst continues to shoulder extra responsibility with the successes the club continues to achieve. 6. Bruce Talbot for providing and supporting the Club website this site continues to be a library of important and relevant information. 7. Susan Yates, for your support at Club nights and many other activities including being a regular travelling manager for the Clubs swimmers I know they truly appreciate the efforts you go to support them. 8. The coaches and land based trainers. On behalf of the committee, parents and swimmers, thank you for your efforts over the last 4 months. 9. To Peter Ashley and Honda for your long- term support of the Club, it really does help our swimmers to power their dreams. 10. The squad managers, meet managers, those parents who have travelled with teams, timekeepers, IOTs, starters etc thank you. The Club cannot function without your input. In the past two years as Club president, you have made my role a pleasure and I have learnt a lot on the way. I am now stepping down as president and look forward to working with the new president and committee members for Thank you Kas Brokenshire Club President 3

6 PUKEKOHE SWIMMING CLUB PRESIDENTS REPORT 2016/2017 This year has seen some major changes for our club moving from being under the guidance of a head coach in charge of all training sessions to having this controlled by a company in charge of the pool space we use. Working through the issues with Belgravia has been a bit of a long road but we seem to be at a point where most things are working well now. The committee has once again worked tirelessly to ensure as little disruption to our swimmers as humanly possible fund-raising and supporting not only our National swimmers, but also our new club swimmers throughout the year. New National Representative Caps provided our swimmers with a point of difference in the pool and achieved a goal of making our swimmers easily identifiable in TV coverage! And there was lots of coverage too with a VERY successful NAGS competition. Unfortunately Sue was unable to attend but Jim stepped in and did a wonderful job many thanks to Jim. Jo Howe and Viv Wallace looked after the swimmers in their usual exceptional style thanks Ladies! Our Div 2 swimmers were the biggest team we have sent for a number of years congratulations again to Jim for a successful meet many of the swimmers having this as their first National event and a couple qualifying for NAGs. Thank you to Rachel Board for organising everything as Team Manager you did a wonderful job. Internationally we had 3 swimmers attend the Australian State Champs Tavarnya Howe, Zac Dell and Kiana Swain all of whom had wonderful results and represented PSC with pride yet again and more recently Rebecca Cheyne has been included with these 3 swimmers in the High Performance Development Squad a fantastic achievement for PSC, the swimmers and Sue as their Coach. Well done guys and we look forward to supporting you this year. Thanks to the Committee for all the hard work this season it has had some challenges and each of you has worked hard towards the goal of the club to support all our swimmers. There is a new and exciting swimming year about to start and I look forward to seeing what our swimmers can achieve. Finally a big thanks to the wonderful Officials that we have associated with PSC Dave, Deb and Sandra thank you for all the ongoing support to bring on new officials within the club when you no longer have a swimmer in attendance. Special mention must go to Marta who attends and officiates at our club nights whenever she can this is always appreciated. Thanks Jo Clare PS Good luck to the new executives voted in at AGM! 5

8 Manurewa Amateur Swimming Club Presidents Report 2017 This year the Manurewa Amateur Swimming Club commemorated and celebrated 50 years involvement of being a competitive swimming club since it was first founded in October With other clubs in the Counties region like Onewhero, Bombay, Tuakau, Otara etc, now being non- existing, to reach this milestone is a great achievement by any sporting club. A combined reunion and prizegiving was held on the 9 th April 2017 at the Weymouth Cosmopolitan Club with past, present members and their families attending. It was an enjoyable, fantastic and fun occasion and getting to know what the club was like in the early years was fascinating to find out from past members. A special thanks to Fiona Sutherland and her team for the time and effort in organising and setting up this occasion for the club. This year has been busy for us as numbers have increased from last year and challenged by limited pool space available and to accommodate everybody s schedule and needs may have not pleased everyone, we do have to work around with other sports and community activities that use the pool. Over the last part of the year it has been a busy time for our coaches Jane Logan and Liz Ryan, with the Taupo Epic Swim at the end of January, which we had 22 swimmers attend, then focusing their attention straight to the 14 swimmers that qualified for NZ Juniors in Auckland. It was a quick turnaround heading to Rotorua for the 4 qualifiers for Div 11. We also had 2 qualify for NAG s (Wellington) but they decided not to attend. For those that attended NZ National meets we hope you enjoyed the experience, as it was their first time for many of them and you can pass on to the younger swimmers of what it felt being at a top competition. We thank Jane, Liz, Keith and Pat Neate for their contribution and commitment throughout the year coaching the swimmers and attending meets. This year we had resignations from the main core of the committee and sorry to see them leave. Carla Codyre our secretary and Karolina Hannah our web/facebook administrator have decided to step down from these roles. We thank them for their time and involvement with the club and committee. I also would like to thank the other committee members for their contribution and time this year. Recently Auckland hosted the 2017 World Masters Games we Had Pat Neate, Minoo Ghadiali and Keith Melvin volunteer and officiate at the swimming events. An enjoyable and fun time was had by all, even though they were long days. (Especially the first day with 26 heats of 800m which ended being a 9 hour session). Parent involvement is essential, as it has become part of SNZ structure so we need everybody to help with our and other clubs swim meets, if your child is swimming. Lastly speaking behalf of Allysa Jones and myself, we would like to thank the committee and club for making us life members, a prestigious honour to up with the names of Jane, Terry, Marilyn and Kevin We thank you very very much.
