Thank you to the student athletes who supported their team through their participation in the Swim-A-Thon. All proceeds will go toward ongoing costs to run and equip our award winning water polo and swim teams. Inside this Newsletter Boys Fall Water Polo 2 Girls Winter Water Polo 3 MATER DEI AQUATICS Newsletter A Message from the Director Dear MDHS Aquatics Families: I am happy to report that the hard work and dedication of the Mater Dei Aquatics family is paying huge dividends. Mater Dei is now unquestionably one of the top aquatics programs in the state. Our boys water polo team went undefeated in league and made it to the CIF championship game in 2007 and this last fall, the team went undefeated in league again and won the 2008 championship outright. It is hard to do much better than that! Our very young girls water polo team just entered the Orange County Top 10 for the first time and is striving to win league and move up the Top 10 list by the end of their winter season. Take a quick look at the new records board and you will see that our 2008 swim team made its mark by putting together the most successful swim season in Mater Dei history. In the classroom, many of our aquatics athletes distinguished themselves individually by making the honor roll and our boys water polo team won the top team GPA award at Mater Dei. We also continued to improve and fine tune our aquatics facilities with the completion of the shade structures and the records boards. Plans are being drafted to expand the pool deck, add grandstands and shade structures, construct a scorers table and build an additional team room. Our annual Dinner on the Deck fundraiser will be on April 25th, Please save the date and plan to attend to celebrate our hard earned aquatics success. We recognize that economic times are tough so do not feel pressured to donate. Sometimes it is just important to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the company of your fellow parents. MDHS/ Regency will attempt to qualify teams for the 2009 USWP National Junior Olympic tournament to be held in late July in northern California. The summer session is an important time to train, condition and improve. All athletes interested in participating in the 2009 MDHS fall season are expected to participate in the summer program. Please coordinate your family vacations with the scheduled vacation break. The new facility has been dressed up and looks fantastic. I can t tell you how many of my colleagues have commented on its good looks and individuality. This is a direct result of your passion for excellence which has translated to our programs being elevated to the next level was a great success. The swim team had its collective highest combined overall ranking in Mater Dei history. I look to build on this success by continuing to do what works Hard Work! Last year s Dinner on the Deck fundraiser was an enormous success and a lot of fun. I especially appreciated having the opportunity to mingle with many of you outside of my element on the pool deck. I look forward to this season as we will enter another battleground with our competitors in the Trinity League where the match ups will be epic. Please support your student-athlete by volunteering to help and by attending our meets wearing your Monarch Red and cheering with your loud, positive voices! I look forward to seeing you soon! Aerial View Aquatics Center Shade Structure Thanks to the proceeds raised through the 2008 Dinner on the Deck, MDHS Aquatics fans and guests are enjoying the new, custom designed sun shades and Monarch Aquatics Wall of Fame at the William Lyon Homes Aquatic Center. The 2009 and 2010 Aquatics Fundraisers will raise funds to expand the deck and spectator areas and possibly erect new Aquatics buildings as well as supplement ongoing costs to run our award winning water polo and swim teams.
