Children will develop flexibility and poise while also learning to work together in a group. Parents will assist children as they learn new exercises. LITTLE TUMBLERS Mondays 6-7PM Ages 4-6 Learn the basic fundamentals of gymnastics with friends. Children will develop flexibility and poise while also learning to work together in a group. KARATE Learn the skills of Karate, Jitsu, and Judo taught by our highly qualified instructor. A great class for teaching a child discipline, strength and focus. Ages 5-7 -> Tuesdays 5-6 PM Ages > Tuesdays 6-7 PM SOCCER Practice the basic skills that will set you apart as a soccer player. Come learn the fundamentals of playing soccer in a fun noncompetitive environment. Ages 5-7-> Wednesdays 5-6 pm Ages 8-12-> Wednesdays 6-7 pm TUMBLING Introductory to tumbling positions, drills and movements such as tuck, straddle, bridge, handstand, forward roll, cartwheel, round off and back handspring along with some strengthening and flexibility. More advanced students will begin to develop a basic comprehension of a standing back handspring, basic air tumbling, front walks and aerials. Ages 6-8 -> Thursdays 5-6 PM Ages > Thursdays 6-7 PM TINY DANCERS Friday 4:30-5:30PM Ages 3-5 Bring your little ones to learn all the fundamentals needed to start them on the right path for dance. Taught by our certified dance instructor the children will learn routines and then perform in a small recital at the end of the session. DANCE Fridays PM Ages 6-8 Led by our dance specialist, the YMCA offers fun-filled dance classes. Kids will learn how to dance by learning modern moves. At the end of the session the children will perform in a small recital to showcase what they have learned. ELITE DANCE Fridays PM Ages 8+ Our Certified dance instructor will instruct the children in the many different aspects of dance. Whether it be hiphop, jazz or modern, they will learn a series of different dance moves. The children will then perform in a minirecital at the end of the session to showcase what they have learned. HEALTH & WELLNESS PLANKS, PLYOS, AND PRS Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00-5:45 PM Ages: 14 and up A 45 minute long, high-intensity workout created specifically for those looking to improve their distance running performance. It combines plyometrics (jump training) body weight resistance training, sprint drills, and static and dynamic stretching to increase flexibility. This class is designed to supplement the endurance training of intermediate-level runners ( those capable of running at least 3 miles at any pace without resting) and will improve power, cardiovascular endurance, form, and flexibility all of which contribute to crushing that PR and reaching your fitness goals Family Member: Free Member: $20 Non-Members: $50 METAFIT Ages: 14 and up Sundays: 10:00-10:30AM & Mondays: 7:00-7:30 PM Metafit is a bodyweight training system that aims to boost metabolism and burn fat. It is a style of HIIT that gets results in the shortest time possible. Family Member: Free Member: $15 Non-Members: $40 FUNCTIONAL FITNESS TUESDAY & THURSDAYS 7:30-8:30PM AGES Get READY for a high intensity group circuitstyle workout that will increase your cardiovascular endurance, burn fat and help strengthen you against any chronic condition Family members: free Members: $20 Non Members: $50

4 SWIMMING LESSONS BUBBLE BABIES 6 months through 36 months - with adult the primary objective of the Bubble Babies classes is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water. Under the guidance of an instructor the class will help prepare the child for the preschool level classes and have fun. The child will be exposed to games that use basic movements, such as kicking, arm strokes and breath control. Activities are based on the developmental abilities of the child. One parent or guardian must attend the class and swim with the participant. 2 ½ YEAR OLD CLASS 30 months - 3 years old Is your child ready to swim without a parent or guardian (minimum age of 30 months required) or are pre-school age and have never been in a swim class? Water adjustment, basic stroke development and personal rescue skills are all introduced in this class. Parent must remain on the pool deck during the 30-minute instructional period of the class. The parent/guardian gets in the water and swims with child for the last 15 minutes to reinforce skills covered by the instructor during class. PRESCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL SWIMMING CLAS- SES (AGE 3-5) PIKE This beginner level class helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke and kicking with the use of personal floatation devices. They will also become comfortable holding their faces in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. EEL This advanced beginner class is for children who are comfortable in the water. They are taught to kick, float, and perform a simple paddle stroke. Children can swim across the width of the pool without assistance by the end of this level. RAY Children begin to build endurance while improving their strokes and skills. They learn to swim on their front and back, tread water and perform diving skills. Children can swim the width of the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. STARFISH Children at this level refine their strokes while reviewing previously learned skills. They also learn underwater swimming skills. Children can swim a length of the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. YOUTH INSTRUCTIONAL SWIMMING CLASSES (AGE 6-14) POLLIWOG Beginning level for school-age children. No prior swimming experience necessary. Students are introduced to basic stroke development, personal safety skills, water sports and games in a friendly environment with peers. GUPPY This class is designed for students who have completed the Polliwog. Children will continue to improve their freestyle and backstrokes. They will be introduced to deep water swimming skills including personal safety in deep water, diving and treading water. Children will also learn rotary breathing, and will be introduced to breaststroke and butterfly. MINNOW The Minnow level is designed for students who have completed either the Guppy or Starfish level. This class will continue to introduce students to diving, treading water, increased distance for freestyle and backstroke, as well as deep water swimming skills. It will introduce lap-swimming techniques to students and will focus on stroke refinement and endurance. FISH Students continue to focus on lap swimming skills, stroke refinement and endurance. They will continue to learn about water sports and games, increase distance of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, personal safety and basic rescue skills. FLYING FISH Flying Fish students continue to perfect lap swimming techniques and focus on stroke refinement of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and increase distance of butterfly. They will continue learning basic rescue skills such as throwing assists and rescue breathing. SWIM LESSON REFUND/CREDIT POLICY To insure proper swimmer-to-instructor ratios for each class, we are unable to permit make-ups. Makeups are not available due to space limitations and program design. To keep our class fees as low as possible, we will not be able to issue credits or make -ups for missed classes. Class credits may be issued at the discretion of the Aquatic Department if accompanied by a physician s note that the participant was not able to participate in a scheduled class. No refunds or credits will be issued for participant cancellation of classes after the start date of the new session. Low enrollment classes may be subject to cancellation. Thank you. This program is designed for swimmers with little or no experience in the water. Instructors will teach fundamental aquatic skills. Saturdays 8:15am 9am PRIVATE AND SEMI PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS The Greater Pittston YMCA offers both private and semi-private lessons. The lessons consist of 4 (four), 30 (thirty) minute sessions. These lessons are offered starting at age three (3) - Adult and at any skill level. Private lessons are done on a one on one basis in order to personalize the experience with a qualified swim instructor. Semi-private lessons can be done with a sibling, friend or spouse. Semi-private lessons are a maximum of 3 people. You can register for lessons at the front desk of the YMCA. Once you register, the Aquatic Director will contact you to set up the day and time of the lessons. 5 SAFE Y FIRST AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CLASSES The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard course is to provide entry level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Minimum age 15 on or before the final scheduled class Pass precourse swim test: Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed, goggles permitted. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface and swim 20 yards with legs only and exit the water in 1 minute 40 seconds (goggles are not permitted). 100% class attendance and participation Pass both a water skills test and written exam CLASS DATES AND TIMES Participants must attend all days/times for the course. The courses are Blended Learning. A portion of the classroom learning will be e-learning at home, while all skills will be conducted at the YMCA. Participants will pay an additional Blended Learning Fee ($35) for the online access. This MUST be paid by credit card in order to access the online material. Per-Course Fees: Member $200 Non Member $225 NONREFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF $30 due at registration; balance due after pre course test, w hich is held the first hour of the first class. A minimum number of participants is required for the class to run AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD RENEWAL CLASSES This course is designed to re-certify a current American Red Cross Lifeguard. Candidates must have a current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer card and a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid card. This class will renew your lifeguard, first aid and CPR/AED certifications. The course is Blended Learning. A portion of the classroom learning will be e-learning at home, while all skills will be conducted at the YMCA. Participants will pay an additional Blended Learning Fee ($27) for the on-line access. This MUST be paid by credit card in order to access the on-line material. This must be completed at least one week prior to the actual class meeting. AQUATIC SAFETY TRAINING FOR PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN (For groups only) Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among children in the U.S. This program teaches children skills to survive an aquatic emergency, perform non-swimming rescues and prevent accidents. The course includes classroom work and optional in-thewater practice. For your convenience, instructors will come to your site to conduct the classroom portions. We'll also customize a program to meet your specific needs. Contact the Aquatic Director to schedule your groups training. WATER SAFETY 101 FOR CHILDREN Topic: Staying safe in and around the water American Red Cross Longfellow s WHALE Tales This program is designed for children, but the entire family is welcome to attend. Pool rules, sun safety, personal floatation devices to name a few will be included. A variety of topics will be covered with fun interactive activities for the entire family. 6 SUMMER AQUATIC FUN! AQUATICS CAMP: LEARN TO SWIM The quickest way to have kids learn how to swim, stay healthy and have fun swimming 3 times a week with 2 structured lessons per week with a swimming instructor and one family free swim per week. On the family free swim day, you can reinforce skills taught to your child in the pool while enjoying free swim as a family. After exploring nature, children will head to the pool for a 30 minute swim lesson. Children should wear their bathing suits to the program. Family Member $40 Member $48 Non Member $60 Community Friends and Neighbors Camp July Preschool Ages 5 10 years old Come and meet members of the community as we walk to local businesses and organizations. Campers will have an opportunity to learn more about these businesses. Each day will be an adventure. Campers must have the ability to walk short distances. After we visit these business, we will return to the Y for free swim. Parents will pick children up at the pool at 11am. LEARN TO SWIM WEEK Classes meet for 5 consecutive days. Learn to Swim week is designed for the non swimmer and beginner swimmer. Classes will introduce the basics of becoming comfortable in and around the water. Kicking, arm strokes, breath control and water safety will be the main focuses of the week.
