As soon as school lets out, come and celebrate the start of summer vacation at Deer Lake Beach! There will be music, games, and other fun activities. The Lifeguard Lunch Special will be available for $3. Beach will be open until 7:30 pm! Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult.

2 Back by popular demand, this program teaches strong swimmers the ins and outs of being a lifeguard. This hands-on course will teach life saving techniques, how to be a stronger swimmer, basic first aid and CPR. After completing the course, participants will have the option to volunteer at the Beach and assist a Swim Instructor with a swim lesson. Deadline to register is 7/2. Use form on pgs. 7 & 8 to register. Ages 14 & up (or those who have completed Advanced Level) * Monday-Thursday, 7/7-7/17 * 11:30am- 1:30pm $50 res/$60 non-res The triathlon club will prepare members who are participating in a three sport competition. The Club is open to both beginning and experienced tri-athletes. Members of all fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to join. Whether you are looking for a way to get back in shape or to set a new triathlon record, the club will provide you with the support and structured workout regimen to achieve your goal. It will also be a fun way to get in shape and meet new people with a common interest. Come as often as your schedule permits. Club members also receive a Beach Punch Pass. Come to Deer Lake Beach s new Tot Time! Only the shallow end will be open. The competitive swim club is designed for swim lesson students who desire a more challenging swim class. It can be used to prepare students for a competitive swim program or to simply strengthen their swimming abilities and endurance. Instructors have been involved with competitive swim teams will provide instruction to help students refine competitive strokes and swimming techniques. Students must provide their own swim goggles. Deadline for 7/7: 7/2 and for 7/28: 7/23. Use form on pgs. 7 & 8 to register. 3 For questions about Deer Lake Beach, call (248) Deer Lake Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with a wonderful shoreline. The beach is located within the Village of Clarkston City limits, between Holcomb and Dixie Hwy. There are swimming areas for the little tykes and the big kids too, including an area with a few simple play toys. SORRY, NO PETS ARE ALLOWED at the beach. Portable toilets are on site, including ADA units. Handicap Parking available. Lifeguards are on duty during operating hours. Built in memory of Renee, one of the best Day Camp Counselors in the history of Independence Township Parks and Recreation. Read the story at COSTS: YOUTH: $1 resident/clarkston Schools; $4 non-resident; 18 & up are free. All users will need to show ID, sign in and wear a wristband. Bathroom facilities are limited, so come in your suit & don t forget a towel. All users need to shower before entering the Spraypark. Please note, on days where user capacity is at its maximum, users will take turns in 15 minute intervals so that everyone gets a chance to be on it. Temperatures must maintain 70 degrees for the Spraypark to open. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. The Spraypark is open Monday-Friday, Noon-7pm; weekends 10am-7pm, weather permitting, for all ages. Toddler Time, ages 6 and under, is from 10am-11am, Monday-Friday. Also, users should be aware that the Clintonwood Park Day Camp will be using the facility twice a week, Tuesday and Thursdays, between 12:30-2pm. Be a partner for life! 4 The Parks and Recreation Department offer swimming classes during the summer months, for youth 6 months and older, of all abilities. Lessons are offered at Deer Lake Beach, 350 White Lake Road, Clarkston. In case of inclement weather, make-up classes will be held on Friday and/or Saturday of the same week in which the class was canceled. For more information, please call (248) TO REGISTER: Independence Township Residents and Clarkston School District Members: Registration begins on Thursday, May 1st at the Parks and Recreation office from 6-8pm, and continues at 8am on May 2 until classes are full. Non-Residents: Open registration begins on May 15th at 8 am. Registration deadline for sessions is the Wednesday prior to the start of the session at 5pm. NO EXCEPTIONS. 7 Independence Township Parks & Recreation 2008 Swim Lesson Registration Form GENERAL LESSON INFORMATION All lessons are held at Deer Lake Beach, 350 White Lake Road, Clarkston. The SWIM LESSON HOT LINE number in case of inclement weather is (248) It is your responsibility to call the hotline number if weather is questionable. Students will not enter the water at the beach when the air temperature is below 67 degrees. All classes are held MONDAY through THURSDAY for two consecutive weeks at Deer Lake Beach. Make-up classes will be held on Fridays and/or Saturdays of the same week as the missed class. The instructors will be ready for your children 5 minutes prior to class. Please bring warm clothing and dry towels for immediately after class. Instructors will release children only to their parents. Please inform your child s instructor if someone other than a parent will be picking up your child. For all swim programs, children not completely potty-trained must wear swim diapers. Disposable swim diapers are available for purchase at the beach. A few weeks after class, you will receive a status report from the instructor indicating your child s progress and the suggested next level of classes. Sorry, no additional registrations will be taken after this time. 8 Refunds: After the registration deadline, absolutely no refunds or credits will be given. For patron-requested refunds prior to the registration deadline, there will be a $5 service fee. Refunds will be issued in the form of an Account Credit (formerly Gold Certificates), check, or your VISA or MC will be credited. No cash refunds will be given. Check refunds will be issued according to Township Finance Department s bill-paying schedule, which may take 4-6 weeks. If the refund is less than $10, a credit will be posted to your account. Transfers: All patron-requested transfers must be done prior to the registration deadline. In addition to any difference in fees, a $5 administrative fee will be charged to transfer between any activities. All transfers must be done in person unless payment is made by VISA or MC. Transfers are only authorized if space is available in the new activity, and in some cases, may need instructor approval. Call to have a transfer form mailed or faxed, or download online. The participant represents that he or she is in good physical condition and able to participate in the activity for which he or she is enrolling and the participant shall be responsible for his or her own health and acknowledges that the activity in which the participant is enrolling may be injurious, and participant accepts his or her risk with full knowledge that some athletic programs require the assistance of unscreened volunteer coaches. Photographs may be taken at certain Recreation Department activities, and, unless the department receives signed, written objections, photos may be reproduced for publication.
