1 Meet the Coaches Head Coach Dan Duclos Head Coach Dan Duclos returns for his 29 th season at the helm of the RAMS Men s Swim Team. Dan hails from Patton, Pennsylvania; he is a graduate of Cambria Heights High School. He received his bachelor s degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 1977 and his master s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Since coming to the RAMS, Coach Duclos has won 9 MVC Coach of the Year awards, 18 District Coach of the Year awards, and was named State Coach of the Year in 1983, 1993, 1996, and Coach Duclos has coached thirteen individual state champions, five Medley Relay state champions, and two 200 Free Relay state champions. In addition to these honors, Coach Duclos swimmers have earned 39 All-American honors. This November Coach Duclos was inducted into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Swimming Hall of Fame. Assistant Coach Pete Ross Assistant Coach Pete Ross enters his 8 th season as the assistant coach of RAMS Men s Swim Team; he is also a guidance counselor at Jefferson Middle School. Coach Ross experience with swimming includes two years as Head Coach of the Wahlert Catholic High School Girls Swim Team, where, in 1997, he was named MVC Coach of the Year and coached the Golden Eagles to a 4 th place finish at the State Meet. He also spent 14 years as the Head Coach of Men s and Women s Swimming at Loras College where he coached 8 swimmers to 14 NCAA All-American honors, including 3 Academic All-Americans. 1

I plan to explore my interests and figure out what career I would like to pursue. To me, swimming is like no other sport, the team unity and spirit is amazing.

I would like to be a state qualifier and I will be going to Loras and majoring in business. Athletic: First year of Swimming Academic: Austin tries to maintain C s or better.

My future plans are to get good grades and do good in swimming.

4 Seniors Meet the Swimmers Athletic: Swimming (3), Baseball (2), Track (2), Basketball (1), Cross Country (1), Tennis (1); Academic: NHS, Honor Roll Other Activities: French Club, Intramural Dodgeball and Archery Champion My plans after high school include moving out of Dubuque and attending college, majoring in physics and possibly earth science. I plan to explore my interests and figure out what career I would like to pursue. To me, swimming is like no other sport, the team unity and spirit is amazing. Anthony Boxleiter Shane Cody Athletic: Golf, Basketball, Swimming Academic: Shane has never failed a class. I would like to be a state qualifier and I will be going to Loras and majoring in business. Athletic: First year of Swimming Academic: Austin tries to maintain C s or better. I plan on joining the Air Force or the Army. If I can t make it there, I ll probably go to NICC or some college. My goals for this season are to succeed. My future plans are to get good grades and do good in swimming. Austin Collins Josh Colpitts Athletic: 4 years Cross Country, 3 years Swimming, 2 years Soccer, 2 years Tennis, 2 years Baseball Other Activities: 4 years Choir, 4 years Theatre, 2 years StuCo I plan on attending the University of Northern Iowa next fall. To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift Steve Prefontaine Luke Easter Nate Guetzko Athletic: 2 years Cross Country, 4 years Swimming Academic: NHS; Other Activities: Spanish Club In the fall I plan to attend Iowa State and major in architectural design. My lifetime goal is to return the Ring of Power to the depths of Mordor with Jordan Huff & Mark Ross. Athletic: 4 years Swimming, 2 years Cross Country, 3 weeks Soccer In my first three years, I have earned three team MVPs, four individual state championships, and set 12 Senior High School records; I also hold one MVC conference record. I am a 7-time individual All-American and have been on 3 All- American relays. Next year I plan to attend the University of Iowa where I will swim for the Hawkeyes. My lifetime goal is to return the Ring of Power to the depths of Mordor with Mark Ross & Nate Guetzko. Jordan Huff Josh Klopfenstein Athletic: 2 years Cross Country, 4 years Swimming, 4 years Track Academic: Red and Blue Renaissance, Academic Major D This season I plan to go to state in the 500 Free and possibly the 100 Fly or maybe even on a relay team. After high school, I plan to go to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a criminal justice major and a Spanish minor. I then plan to get a law enforcement job somewhere in the southwest region of the United States. 5

My goal for this season is to compete with the top swimmers in the state and place very highly in the state meet. My future plans are to graduate high school and continue swimming in college. Andrew Peter Mark Ross Athletic: 4 years Cross Country, 4 years Swimming, 3 years Tennis. Academic: 4 years Honor Roll My goals for the season are to succeed to our best ability as a team and be at the top of the state. I then plan to attend college and major in environmental sciences. My lifetime goal is to return the Ring of Power to the depths of Mordor with Jordan Huff & Nate Guetzko. Athletic: Cross Country, Swimming, and Track Academic: Blue and White Renaissance Other Activities: NHS, Student Ambassadors, Renaissance committee My goal is to make it to state in any event, especially the Fly. After high school, I plan to go to college at Iowa State and become an engineer. Brandon Schmidt 6

Juniors Eric Ferring This is Eric s third year of swimming; he also played one year of baseball. Eric holds a 4.

7 Juniors Eric Ferring This is Eric s third year of swimming; he also played one year of baseball. Eric holds a 4.03 GPA and is a two-time All State Choir member. Eric s goals include finishing in the top 12 at state in the 500 free and the top 8 in the 100 Fly. Conner Henkes This is Conner s second year on the swim team; he has also run cross country for two years. His goal for this season is to just make it through the season. Rob Melville Rob is swimming for the first time this year; having run cross country for three years and track for one year while at Senior. He has maintained A s and B s while a student at Senior. His goal this year is to at least finish the season. Greg Rakozy Greg returns for his third year of RAMS swimming. In his free time, Greg also participates in triathlons. At Senior, Greg is on honor roll. Greg s plans for this season are to place at state and to have a blast. Cody Soeder Cody has been swimming for two years. At school he likes to try the best he can and finds that gets the best results. His goals for this season are to improve and to become a better and faster swimmer. Sophomores Ty Bailey This is Ty s second year on the swim team. His goals for this season include making it to state in the 100 Breaststroke. Austin Baugh Austin returns for his second year of swimming; he has also run cross country and track during his time as a RAM. This year he hopes to swim at districts in an individual event and to have the team do well at state. 7

Jacob Deakyne This is Jacob s second year on the RAMS swim team.

Jacob s future plans include going to college.

Tate s goals for this season include going to state, doing big things, and stepping up and beating Mr.

Cole Kearney Cole returns for his second year on the swim team.

He is on blue renaissance. Chance Morgan This is Chance s second year of swimming.

Chance has been on either red or blue renaissance his entire time at Senior.

Jake Schemmel Jake returns for his second year of swimming; he also plays baseball for the RAMS.

Dillon Schmidt This is Dillon s second year of swimming; he has also run two years of cross country and will run

8 Jacob Deakyne This is Jacob s second year on the RAMS swim team. In his free time, he enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding and listening to music. Jacob s future plans include going to college. Tate Forsyth Tate returns for his second year of swimming; he has also run one year of cross country. Tate s goals for this season include going to state, doing big things, and stepping up and beating Mr. Oberhoffer s relay splits so he can t make fun of Tate for being skinny anymore. Cole Kearney Cole returns for his second year on the swim team. He has also run two years of cross country and will run his second year of track in the spring. He is on blue renaissance. Chance Morgan This is Chance s second year of swimming. He has also played two years of football and participated in DASH. Chance has been on either red or blue renaissance his entire time at Senior. Chance s goal for this season is to go to state either in a relay or an individual event. Jake Schemmel Jake returns for his second year of swimming; he also plays baseball for the RAMS. Jake likes to work out as much as he can. This season he hopes to make it to districts. Dillon Schmidt This is Dillon s second year of swimming; he has also run two years of cross country and will run his second year of track in the spring. Dillon hopes to get good at breaststroke this year. Lincoln Stewart Lincoln returns for his second year of Rams swimming; he also ran track last year. Lincoln has been on Renaissance while at Senior. His goals for this season are to lose weight, drop time, and make it to state. Ben Wirzbach This is Ben s second year of swimming, and he plans to continue swimming during his time at Senior. Ben is an A student. His goals this season are to lower his times and to eat nutritiously. 8
