Full members receive two hours of free babysitting per child per day while utilizing the facility. You are permitted to bring NUT FREE snacks for your child to enjoy during snack times. Additional information about snack times is posted in the Kids Zone. Drinks are permitted during regular hours and not restricted to snack times. Wellness Coaching Adult Fitness Center Equipment Orientations Personal Training Services COMMIT TO BE F.I.T. Getting started is easy when you have support and a plan! You and your wellness coach will develop a plan to meet your unique needs. Your goals are within your reach. Register for your first session at the Member Services Desk. SESSION 1 - FOCUS You and your coach will discuss past experiences, uncover potential obstacles, set goals and develop a plan to reach them. You will also preview activities that are of interest. Complete this session and receive $5 off of your next month s membership! SESSION 2 INVOLVE You and your coach will discuss progress, develop strategies to overcome obstacles and introduce additional activity options. Complete this session and receive $10 off of your next month s membership. SESSION 3 TRANSFER During this shorter session, you will have the opportunity to celebrate progress, revise your plan and transfer what you have learned into an ongoing plan for success! Fitness Assessments are a great way to measure your current fitness level or help you measure progress towards your goals. The nutrition, fitness and lifestyle challenges of this 8 week program are strategically designed to help you reach Your Best Body, regardless of starting fitness level or weight. 11 WATER FITNESS Thinking about ways to get fit but without all the impact to your joints? We offer WATER EXERCISE classes ranging from vigorous, high-intensity water aerobics like Aqua Zumba to gentle aqua arthritis like Aqua Zen. Water Exercise classes are FREE for Y members and no registration is required. There is something for all ages and fitness levels. HEALTHY LIVING ADULTS DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM The YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based program recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This 12-month program is designed to help individuals with prediabetes reduce their risk of developing diabetes. The program is proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more than 58-72%. Participants will: Be placed in a group based on your own scheduling and location needs. Meet one hour per week for 25 weekly, biweekly and monthly sessions. Learn skills to lead a healthier lifestyle, including how to eat healthier, increase physical activity, and change your behavior. Note: Organized physical activity is not a part of the program. 12 ADULTS DANCE ADULT BALLET AGES:16 years and older Open to non-members A ballet technique class with special emphasis on stretching, flexibility, and muscle toning. No experience required. ADULT BALLET II AGES:16 years and older Open to non-members Advanced ballet techniques combined with an emphasis on stretching, flexibility, and muscle toning. KARATE ADULT KARATE AGES:14 years and up This program teaches the art of Tae Kwon Do along with minor segments borrowed from Yoga, Jiu-jitsu, and Shotokan. BLACK BELT CLASS Enrollment is by invitation only. Head instructor permission required. KARATE BELT TESTING Head Instructor permission is required. SPORTS ADULT TENNIS LESSON & PLAY AGES: 18+ Participants will receive instruction from the Northern Delaware Section USTA Certified Instructors. 30 minute lesson then one hour of play. All skill levels are welcome. OFFERED: FALL SESSION 1 SPECIALTY CLASSES ADULT PAINTING AGES:16 years and older Encourage your creativity in a relaxed and friendly environment. The instructor will set up a still life or group project each week. Child care is available. On the first day of class, please bring a sketchpad. This class is for both beginners and experienced knitters. Bring a ball of worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, crochet hook or your current project to the first class. HELPING HAND KNITTING & CROCHET CIRCLE AGES:16 years and older Make caps and small toys to be donated to several local agencies. Bring a set of knitting needles, size 6 or larger, or a crochet hook. We ll supply yarn and patterns. SWIM ADULT SWIM BASICS ADULT AGES: 16 years and older Adults learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency. SWIM STROKES ADULT AGES: 16 years and older Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique. SPECIAL ADAPTED SWIM INSTRUCTION This class is for those who have special needs. It builds strength, confidence, and improves coordination through swimming and creative play. Please only register for one class per session so that we can accommodate as many participants as possible. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Learn how to swim at your own pace or work individually with a swim instructor to meet your goals. Request forms are available at the Member Services Desk. Practice sessions are participant led, cover 2,500-4,000 yards and primarily include aerobic conditioning and some speed work. Participation in Masters swim meets is optional, but available. 100 MILE SWIM CLUB AGES:14 and older Stay motivated in your swim workout and join the100-mile club. Keep track of your laps and record your yardage/ mileage. Log sheets available at membership desk. A / WATER DISCOVERY Parents accompany children in stage A, which introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment through exploration and encourages them to enjoy themselves while learning about the water. SWIM BASICS Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: Swim, float, swim sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit Jump, push, turn, grab 1 / WATER ACCLIMATION Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water in stage one. 24 YOUTH PRECOMPETITIVE SWIM LESSONS SAND SHARKS AGES: 3 5 years old years MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The participant must pass the Swim Strokes 4 level in the YMCA swim lesson program or possess the ability to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) of two of the four competitive strokes unassisted and without the use of a flotation device. HAMMERHEADS AGES: 6 12 years This level builds upon the skills previously learned in the Swim Strokes 5 swim lessons and the Sand Sharks precompetitive swim lessons. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Pass the Minnow level in the YMCA swim lesson program or possess the ability to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) of two of the four competitive strokes legally. TIGER SHARKS AGES: 6 12 years This level builds upon the skills previously learned in the Swim Strokes 6 swim lessons and the Sand Sharks/ Hammerheads precompetitive swim lessons. Basic swim workouts are introduced utilizing the pace clock to help swimmers increase their endurance and reaffirm proper stroke technique. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Pass the Minnow / Fish levels in the YMCA swim lesson program or possess the ability to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) of three of the four competitive strokes legally. SWIM TEAM AGES: 6 18 years The Brandywine YMCA Swim Team is a year-round competitive swimming program. BRY strengthens the community by promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in a supportive competitive team setting. We participate in both YMCA and USA Swimming competitions, locally, regionally and nationally. Our experienced and supportive coaches help each swimmer develop to his or her potential, celebrating competitive success while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Swimmers have the option to practice two to six days per week. Fall/Winter Season, School Year, and All Year (September 5th to late July 2018) options available. Swim evaluation required prior to sign up. Evaluations planned for the last week in August. Please check website for details. HIGH SCHOOL WARM UP September 11th October 27th Our High School Warm Up program is for those aspiring athletes who are interested in getting a jump start on their high school season. Swimmers will receive individualized guidance on all four strokes, plus strokes and turns in addition to developing a stronger aerobic base to help transition them into their high school programs in November. SPECIAL ADAPTED SWIM INSTRUCTION This class is for those who have special needs. It builds strength, confidence, and improves coordination through swimming and creative play. Please only register for one class per session so that we can accommodate as many participants as possible. LIFEGUARDING CERTIFICATION ELLIS LIFEGUARDING AGES: Must be 15 years old before course begins PRE-REQUISITES: Perform feet first surface dive in deep water, retrieve a 10-pound brick, tread water for 1 minute using legs only, and swim 100 continuous yards of freestyle or breast stroke. YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT Youth in Government (YIG) offers model legislative and judicial experiences to youth in grades Participants can assume the role of Legislator, Lobbyist, Journalist, Speaker, Youth Governor, Attorney, Justice and more. MODEL LEGISLATIVE & JUDICIAL PROGRAM GRADES: 6-12 Weekly meetings begin in January and will continue leading up to the 1-day Training and Elections Conference scheduled for early March and the Model Legislative and Judicial Conference taking place from April 13th - 15th 2018, in Dover, DE at Legislative Hall & the Kent County Court House. JUNIOR MODEL LEGISLATURE GRADES: 6-8 Middle School students will have the chance to learn about the legislative process, debate parliamentary procedure, and work with students from across the state to develop solutions to problems they see facing Delaware.
