3 Program Policies All children must meet the following guidelines for enrollment or use of any program at the Ciccotti Center: All children who enroll in any of our programs/camps (excluding our KIM program, which is a member only benefit) must meet the age/grade requirements as well as the following guidelines: 1. Children must be able to function in a 1:10 staff/child ratio. 2. Children must be fully toilet trained and able to use the facilities independently. 3. Children must be able to undress and re dress themselves in the event the program/ camp has time in the pool. The Ciccotti Center will make reasonable accommodations to serve children with disabilities or behavioral concerns and will evaluate each situation individually. Please contact the department manager, depending on the program, if you have any questions or concerns regarding these eligibility requirements. Children cannot be dropped off prior to the start time of camp unless the camp states that there is early drop off, we do not have staff to take care of them before the official start time of camp. We also do not have late pick up unless specified in the guide for that particular camp. Behavior Management / Code of Conduct Please review the following rules with your child before the program begins. While in the program, children are expected to display age appropriate behavior and follow established rules including, but not limited to: Respect other children, staff and property Follow staff direction. Stay with a staff member and within program areas at all times Adhere to rules regarding building and playground safety Refrain from using foul language or other forms of verbal abuse No fighting or other physical altercations 3 Community Program Guide Fall / Winter 2017

4 Youth Sports & Recreation Programs Youth Sports Leagues FALLING LEAVES RECREATIONAL FALL BASKETBALL LEAGUE Sponsored in part by The Falling Leaves program is designed to give children an opportunity to enjoy the game of basketball. This is an abbreviated league shorter than our winter program, without scheduled practice nights, but just as much fun! Our goal is to teach each player about the game and provide them with equal amounts of playing time while having FUN! Coaches are volunteers who have varied levels of basketball knowledge. Parents interested in coaching, please contact Roger Manion (see page 9). IMPTANT INFMATION Registration deadline is Saturday, September 9 All pre-registered children are placed on a team, including those unable to attend the draft. Coaches will contact their players with the time to report for their first game. Schedules for the remainder of the season and game shirts will be distributed at the first game. This league does not conduct formal practices; schedule includes 10-minute pre-game practice. Coaches are volunteers with varied levels of basketball knowledge. Parents interested in coaching, please contact Roger Manion (see page 9). A pre-season coaches meeting will be scheduled to review rules, policies and procedures for the league. IMPTANT INFMATION Pre-registration is required. Registration ends November 4, or when teams are full for all leagues. An exception is 1st and 2nd Grade, whose registration ends November 2, or when the program is full. The leagues will conduct their first practice on the dates listed below. Only players who have registered by the deadline may attend the practice sessions. After Draft Day, participants are placed on a team and contacted by their coach regarding practice times. Players who register and cannot attend the draft will be placed on a team. Game schedules and team shirts are handed out during practice sessions. All players will receive an end-of-season trophy or medal for their participation. All games will be played at the Ciccotti Center in the Edward D. Cammarota Gymnasium. Game schedules will indicate game times and opponents. $120 Ciccotti members; $140 Non-members BIDDY BASKETBALL No draft. Do you need quiet time away from the kids? Need time to finish up holiday shopping? Well here is your chance! We provide supervised activities including games, stories, movies and swimming. We provide pizza, beverages and popcorn. Please bring your children dressed ready to swim; proper gymnasium footwear is also required. Parents must notify staff if a flotation device is needed. Since this program requires a minimum of 10 children to operate, pre-registration is required by Noon on Thursday, before the program. Campers will work on throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. Campers are required to bring their favorite glove and bat. Here is your chance to do some last minute shopping or visit with friends while your child is having fun playing games in the gym, swimming and watching a movie. Please bring your children dressed ready to swim; proper gymnasium footwear is also required. Please notify staff if a flotation device is needed. The fee includes a morning snack and beverage. 6 Youth Sports & Recreation Programs School Vacation Programs COLUMBUS DAY VACATION CAMP This one-day camp has the same format as our summer All Sports Day Camp, but with the younger athlete in mind. Sports include basketball, tennisracquet baseball, soccer, football, kickball, and much more in a healthy and safe camp setting. After registration, you will receive a detailed sports camp application that includes a medical form. Campers must bring a swimsuit and towel (for afternoon swim), sneakers, snack, lunch and beverage. Date: Monday, October 9 8:30 AM 5:00 PM Location: Ciccotti Center 5-9 co-ed $80 Ciccotti members, $100 Non-members *NEW! FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS INDO FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE Back by popular demand! Are you ready for some football? This co-ed program features an eight week non-contact play in a 5 versus 5 format. Children will learn the fundamentals of passing, catching, running and defending in a fun environment. Games will be played on our state-of-the-art rubberized multi-purpose floor. Each child must have a mouth guard to participate and all players will receive a team flag football shirt. Have aspirations of going to the big dance one day? Focus on more than just game play and you ll have an edge over even the tallest players. We will cover shooting, free throws, defensive and offensive play, while incorporating group personal training, strength and conditioning and core work. Our focus will be on improving your form, speed, agility and focus. Dates: Tuesdays, October 3 December years Instructor: JJ Harvey $180 FAST BREAK CO-ED BASKETBALL CAMP The Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center is offering a basketball clinic designed to enhance fundamental skills through drills and game play. Pre-registration is required. Campers must bring a swimsuit and towel (for afternoon swim), sneakers, snack, lunch and beverage. Date: Friday, November 24 8:30 AM 5:00 PM 8 10 years $80 Ciccotti members, $100 Non-members *NEW! 9TH 12TH GRADE (THREE ON THREE) BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT Enjoy the excitement of 3 x 3 basketball, or street ball as it is known to many. This one-day tournament will consist of teams with no more than 5 players. Each contest will be 15 minutes in duration, or the first team to 21 wins moves on in this double elimination tourney. This one-day event will test the endurance of all participants. Teams ONLY may register. All games will be officiated with the finals using 2 certified referees. Games will be drawn at random. When registering, please indicate what team you are on. The winning team will receive championship t-shirts, hats, bragging rights and a cash prize of $200. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center $50 per player (Limited to 16 teams) Eligible players must be in high school and show a proper school ID upon registration. This co-ed program features an eight week non-contact play in a 5 versus 5 format. Children will learn the fundamentals of passing, catching, running and defending in a fun environment. Dates: Sundays, January 7 February 4 Division I 5 to 7 yrs. 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM (1-hour games) Division II 8 to 10 yrs. 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (1-hour games) Location: Ciccotti Center $80 Ciccotti members, $100 Non-members HOME SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS Ciccotti Center s Home School Physical Education program features an alternative for families. The Ciccotti Center will offer 28 structured classes delivered over a thirteen week period. The goal is for students to have planned physical activity to promote optimal physical, emotional, and social development, while having fun! Participants will play a variety of sports, including: soccer, broomball, European handball, floor hockey and basketball. They will also receive instructions on the basic principles of fitness. Participants will receive American Red Cross certified swim lessons. Each two-hour program will have students spending one-hour in the Gymnasium and one-hour in the pool. (This is a drop-off program, parents are not required to stay in the building). IMPTANT INFMATION Participants must wear proper gym attire, including sneakers. A swimsuit and towel are required. 8 Adult Sports & Recreation Programs Adults Sports & Recreation Programs MEN S FALL BASKETBALL LEAGUE All divisions play a ten-week schedule that includes two weeks of single elimination playoffs and finishes with a Championship Game. The highest seeded team plays the lowest and so on. Certified referees and scorekeepers are hired for each game. All standings and statistics are kept and posted. Team shirts provided. IMPTANT INFMATION Please write the team captain s name on the bottom of your registration form. Are you a Free Agent? Then write Free Agent on the bottom of your registration form and Roger will assign you to a team. There s a prize! Players on the winning team can defend their championship in the following season at no charge! (Rules apply.) Must register by September 10. Maybe you ought to be because we have some great fun (and mild exercise) in store for you. If you ve ever played tennis, ping pong or badminton, then you will love Pickleball! It provides light exercise, fun and great company. It s easy to learn and you don t have to bring any equipment we have it all right here for you. This is not a league that requires regular attendance; however, your reply will help us ensure that sufficient participants are at these games. Everyone must register, members and non-members, to ensure we have enough participants to offer this program. This is a fast-growing sport (especially among seniors), so help us to better serve you by contacting Roger Manion (see page 9). CO-ED PICK-UP VOLLEYBALL Join our pick-up recreational volleyball for all levels who want the challenge. INDO GOLF INSTRUCTION F BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE Coming late this fall! This class will provide introductory and intermediate training in the sport of golf. Clinics are intended to provide a solid foundation for learning the game of golf for beginner golfers and anyone who wants to improve their swing techniques. The program consists of five 1½ hour lessons to teach the student form, grip, stance, posture, etiquette and methodology. We use new, innovative equipment to teach the mechanics of a golf swing. Comfortable attire is recommended, gym shoes are required. Pre-registration is required. 9 Fitness Programs Youth Fitness Programs CRAZY RELAYS Have fun and stay fit in the process. Crazy Relays will consist of obstacle courses and fun relays using hula hoops, jump ropes and a variety of other equipment. Children must have proper workout clothes and sneakers to participate. Parents must remain in the building during this program. Instructor: Roger Manion Dates: Mondays, September 25 December 18 (No Class October 16) 6:00 PM 5 11 years Free for Ciccotti members; $40 Non-members YOUTH BOXING BOOT CAMP This class has been designed in a boot camp style, containing strength, conditioning and boxing drills such as punching techniques. There will be a heavy cardiovascular component and you will SWEAT! Boxing boot camp classes are designed to improve stability, strength, power and endurance. NO sparring. Children must have proper workout clothes and sneakers to participate. Parents must remain in the building during this program. 10 Fitness Programs Adult Fitness Programs BOOT CAMP 360 Boot Camp 360 kicks up the intensity and challenges you to engage in an intense full-body workout. Our famous drill stations feature compound and dynamic exercises, such as: push-ups, sit-ups, warrior ropes, core work and kettle bells. This workout will bring your fitness game to a whole new level. Space is limited, please register for only one time slot.. Qigong meaning breath work is based on the principles of traditional Chinese Medicine. T ai Chi has many health benefits which include coordination, flexibility, strength and balance. T ai Chi and Qigong are easy to learn and are great for seniors! TABATA Tabata is an intense class that features interval and circuit training. Highintensity interval training (HIIT), also called sprint interval training, is a cardio exercise strategy intended to improve performance, burn fat and build lean muscle with short and intense workouts. Original protocol sets a 2:1 ratio for work-to-recovery periods. A HIIT session consists of a warm-up, followed by 6 to 10 repetitions of high-intensity exercise that are separated by medium-intensity exercises. The class will end with a cool-down. AQUA PERSONAL TRAINING Aqua personal training, more commonly known as aqua therapy, is a great way to optimize your fitness level without the high impact. Aqua training provides similar benefits to land-based training without the impact. Aquatic exercise is often the next step for those requiring l ow or no impact or in post-rehabilitation. The buoyancy of water protects recovering injuries. Our certified aqua personal trainer will develop a program focused on your personal needs. Whether it s designing a high-intensity, cross-training regimen or continuing your post-rehabilitation needs, water resistance exercise will challenge your body in every aspect. 15 Aquatic Programs Aquatic Programs AMERICAN RED CROSS SWIM LESSONS This progressive program teaches participants how to swim in a logical progression, while learning safety tips to enhance their experience in the water. Classes are subject to a minimum of 2 and maximum of 6-12 participants depending on the level. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Children without an American Red Cross required card, completed within the last six months, will need to be assessed by one of our aquatics instructors prior to registering. Free evaluations will be held on the dates below. No appointment necessary. Please contact the Aquatics Department if these dates and times need to be adjusted for your schedule. SWIM EVALUATIONS FALL: Friday, August 25 2:00 PM 6:00 PM WINTER I: Friday, October 20 2:00 PM 6:00 PM Important Information: 1. Please arrive early, allowing time to park, change into swimsuits and get to your lesson on time. 2. Any child 3 years of age or older may use the locker room with a parent of the same gender, one of our two family changing rooms or our gender neutral locker room. 3. For children under 12 years old, parents must remain on the pool deck for the duration of their child s swim lesson. Seating is provided on the deck. (Please remember that a child under the age of 12 must always be in the presence of a parent while anywhere in the Ciccotti Center). 4. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed unless medical documentation is provided or extenuating circumstances have occurred. Exceptions might be made, but are limited based on class availability and enrollment numbers. Toddler & Youth Aquatics PARENT CHILD AQUATICS PARENT AND TOT (AGES 6 MONTHS 2 YEARS) Your child will learn basic water readiness using songs, games and water toys that will provide a unique, aquatic experience. Children will learn to follow the adults lead and look for permission when in the aquatics area. Parents are required to participate in the water with their child. SUPER TOT (AGES: 2 3 YEARS) These advanced parent-child swim lessons concentrate on beginning basic stroke movements. Parents learn how to teach their children to swim. We introduce blowing bubbles, basic kicking and paddling techniques. This is a great class to prepare children for the next step in to our Preschool Aquatics program. Parents are required to participate in the water with their child. PRESCHOOL AQUATICS Our small group lessons provide your child with the instruction and inspiration needed to be comfortable and confident in the water. They learn to blow bubbles, submerge their face in the water, float while being supported and basic water safety. PRESCHOOL LEVEL 1 (AGES: 3 5 YEARS) Participants are introduced to the aquatic environment and master the fundamental skills. All skills are performed with an instructor and/or flotation assistance. PRESCHOOL LEVEL 2 (AGES: 3 5 YEARS) Participants begin to move through the water on their own and with assistance. Prerequisite: child must be comfortable in the water on their front, back and with their face in the water. PRESCHOOL LEVEL 3 (AGES: 3 5 YEARS) Participants continue to work on movement through the water with a goal of moving short distance on their front and back without assistance or flotation devices. 16 Aquatic Programs YOUTH AQUATICS LEARN TO SWIM Our Learn To Swim program creates the perfect environment for school-age children to develop their swimming skills. In order to register for levels 2-6, parents must present their American Red Cross card proving successful completion of the previous level. Otherwise, please contact our Aquatic Department to set up an evaluation before registering your child (see page 9). Our American Red Cross Learn To Swim program is comprised of 6 levels and covers the following skills: Water entry and exit Breathing control Underwater swimming Buoyancy Changing direction Treading water Swimming on front, back and side All 4 competitive strokes Turns Water fitness Water safety LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS To help students feel comfortable in the water and learn basic water safety. Lessons include water safety rules, using a life jacket, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, swimming on front and back, exhaling underwater and floating on front and back. All skills are performed and taught with the assistance of their instructor. LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS To give students success with fundamental aquatic skills. Prerequisites include the ability to fully submerge face for a minimum of 3 seconds, float on back and front with assistance and demonstrate safe pool entries and exits. Skills introduced include submerging entire head, front and back glides, bobbing in the water, treading water, jellyfish float, swimming using combined strokes on front and back, recognizing swimmers in distress and seek help. LEVEL 3: STROKE DEVELOPMENT To build on the fundamental skills from Level 2 through guided practice. Prerequisites include a demonstrated ability to perform unsupported float or glide on front and back for 5 seconds and independent swimming on front and back for a minimum of 5 yards. Skills introduced include reaching assists, swimming without assistance, front and back crawl stroke, rotary breathing in horizontal position, butterfly kick and body motion, survival floats and retrieving underwater objects. LEVEL 4: STROKE IMPROVEMENT To develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills. Prerequisites include demonstrated ability to perform the front and back crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing for a minimum of 15 yards. Skills introduced include breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, sidestroke, open turn on front and back and feet first surface dives. LEVEL 5/6: STROKE REFINEMENT & ENDURANCE SWIMMING To provide coordination and refinement of strokes. Prerequisites include a demonstrated ability to perform elementary backstroke for 25 yards, sculling on back for 1 minute, front crawl with rotary breathing for 25 yards, back crawl for 25 yards, breaststroke for 25 yards, butterfly for 25 yards, scissor kicks and the ability to tread water for 1 minute. 19 Aquatic Programs Certification Preparation Classes CPR & AED F PROFESSIONAL RESCUER As an EMT, firefighter, athletic trainer, childcare provider or lifeguard, it is your duty to respond to cardiac or breathing emergencies until advanced medical personnel arrives. This program teaches the skills you need through discussion, video and hands-on training that are based on real-life rescue scenarios. You will learn how to assess needs, enhance decision-making and provide care to adults, children and infants. Classroom and blended learning options are available. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a two-year certification (available digitally upon request) and a free Online refresher. Topics include: Primary assessment Ventilations, including use of CPR breathing barriers Choking (conscious and unconscious) CPR (one- and two-rescuer) Using an AED Optional training in use of epinephrine auto-injectors and asthma inhalers available Dates/Times: Please contact the Aquatics Department for dates (Course length approximately 4 5 hours) $68 Ciccotti members, $80 Non-members LIFEGUARDING Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool and in a waterfront environment. Pre-requisites: Must be 15 years old by the end of the course. The participant will need to complete the following prior to taking the course: - Swim 550 yards continuously using either front crawl with rhythmic breathing (face needs to be in the water unless breathing) breaststroke with the proper timing and technique. - Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to surface and swim 20 yards back to starting point holding object with both hands. All must be done within 1 minute and 40 seconds. - Swim 5 yards out from the side of the pool, submerge and retrieve three dive rings (placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water), resurface and swim 5 yards back to the side of the pool.
