2 Jennifer Findlay - Committee Member Coaching Co-ordinator presently vacant, soon to be filled Vice-Captain - presently vacant, soon to be filled Your new committee has changed the rules for the Club Endurance 1000 Trophy for Under the old rules: Points were only awarded for endurance swim at club meets. Some members are interested in attempting to do all 62 endurance swims that make up the Endurance 1000 program administrated by Masters Swimming Australia (MSA). The club is unable to provide sufficient endurance events during the calendar year to allow member to complete all 62 endurance swims. The committee always promotes endurance swimming and is looking for ways to increase the number of endurance swims members complete. To overcome this issue, and provide more opportunities for members to do endurance swims, the committee has decided make. Updated rule: Endurance 1000 swims completed at outside events will now be counted towards the Club Endurance 1000 Trophy for 2017 and beyond. A plea from Ross, our Endurance 1000 Co-ordinator: Please turn up early on Endurance 1000 evenings so that all paperwork is completed by 6.20 pm. This will allow the Endurance event to get away on time. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR DIARY! Sat 1 st April Club Champs Rd 3 200m and 50m Very Important: Our first club pool event for the year is the Mandurah Masters LiveLighter Club Challenge on Sunday April 2 nd We want as many as possible to enter. A good team is developing, but we need more. There is a good chance we could win this competition. By completing a 25m race you will earn a point for our club. Please: see poolside/phone/ Captain Col with your event

4 The W.A. State masters Swimming Championships is on 29 th and 30 th April at the Challenge Stadium. Entries through Cap n Col. Welcome to our New Member Sarah Dean REPORTS A Report on the Virtual Rottnest Swim by Derek Bishop Slowly one eye began to open. I was looking up at the ceiling. As consciousness flooded back the sore joints reminded me that I d just flaked out on the floor at home after the 2017 Virtual Rotto swim. For those that love to knock themselves out swimming it doesn t get much better.

This was an ideal place to be. The water was refreshingly cool and crystal clear. We had five teams in the event. Four of the teams consisted of four swimmers.

5 We started out at 5.30 am in the morning, a time when all sensible people are in bed on the weekend. The pool and surrounding areas looked magnificent and were a credit to those who look after the facilities. The maximum temperature ended up a whisker less than 40 degrees. This was an ideal place to be. The water was refreshingly cool and crystal clear. We had five teams in the event. Four of the teams consisted of four swimmers. One of the teams was a novelty event with many swimmers. There was some confusion and disappointment at the start as some swimmers who thought they d been registered found out they hadn t. On my first swim about half way down the pool after the first turn I hit something solid. Turns out it was someone s head. I wondered what they were doing on my side of the pool. We were swimming two to a lane - I was swimming in the wrong lane! I ll be reminded of this for at least the next six months. Fortunately the rest of the swim went without further incident. We finished around 2.00 pm. Times that I saw for a 500 m swim varied from about 8 and a half minutes up to under 14 minutes.

6 The final total time for each team was as follows: Greasy Gropers: 7 hr 28 mins 23 secs (with assistance from a blow-in) The Lane Rope Huggers: 6 hrs 51 mins 04 seconds

7 Armadale Pelicans: 7 hrs 35 mins 18 secs Swim Reapers: 7 hrs 20 mins 11 secs Armadillians (Novelty): 7 hr 49 mins 40 secs

Greg ran yet another club raffle. The prizes looked good, except I m not sure about the chocolate by the time it got home. It was a great effort from all who were involved in the swimming.

A lot of the success we enjoyed was also due to the efforts of our coaches and the club administration. Our thanks to them. There were those who worked behind the scenes setting up the chairs and tables and providing food for the event. Heather and Charles Croft did a lot of the initial organising of teams before going on holidays. Jeff took over this role in their absence. On behalf of the Club we say thanks to all who helped make this a great day. (Derek Bishop) A RAMOS REPORT Coogee Jetty to Jetty was swum and done on Sunday with perfect overcast conditions for open water swimming. Well done to everyone who negotiated the new parking arrangements, got the shuttle bus or walked to the rego site, got the sticker on the right or was that left arm and the timing band on the left..or was that right arm and joined the other 999 swimmers for the obligatory race briefing and gentle stroll up the beach to the start. The swim was swum, we were greeted at the finish with a cup of something that looked suspiciously like uri I mean champagne (probably called Coogwee), water and fruit. Then stories of stingers and crazy swimmers who don t look where they were going followed by breakfast, half hour waiting in line for a coffee and the raffles which we didn t win and then the walk back to the car. Alex Horn has donated a set of never used water proof headphones for the purpose of listening to music etc. This is to be used by a lonesome swimmer doing laps outside of official training. I only had 5 minutes swim time and was busting for a pee, so I headed off to the deep end to relieve myself. Unfortunately the lifeguard spotted me and blew his whistle so loud I nearly fell in, Editor: What the hell..?
