1 BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA Jayhawk Area Council Falley Scout Reservation 2013 Camp Jayhawk And Merit Badge Immersion Camp CAMP SCHEDULES MERIT BADGE GUIDEBOOK Other activities

2 Merit Badge and Other Activities This guide book includes some new merit badges and programs. There are three listings of Merit badges and other activities. First, you will encounter the daily schedules, daytime and evening. Then, an alphabetic listing provides you a quick reference to the merit badges and other activities. Finally, a detailed listing by program area, gives you information about Nova Award applicability, class session capacity, extra fees, and prerequisites that must be done before attending camp for a particular merit badge can be earned. Any rank, age, or other requirements are also listed. Fees for some of the merit badges and activities have been raised to reflect the increased cost of materials and kits. The most significant fee increases are related to Shooting Sports because of the demand on guns and ammo that have created a shortage and significant cost increase. There are separate enrollment forms for Camp Jayhawk (Boy Scout Residence Camp) and Merit Badge Immersion Camp. Nova Award Program New The FSR News Team program has been replaced by the Nova Award /STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) program. This program provides an opportunity to not only earn specific merit badges but also provides the Scout the opportunity to earn the Nova Award, working on its unique additional requirements. More specifics are in the detailed listing. The Nova Award Program also hosts two new Merit Badges; Welding and Farm Mechanics. These Merit Badges because of the specialized expertise will be by appointment at the convenience of guest instructors. Baden-Powell Adventure The first year camper program, Baden-Powell Adventure, will now be under the Handicraft Area Director, rather than in the Outdoor Skills area. One significant change in the program will be the formation of new Scout patrols and the enlistment of 4 to 5 adult leaders attending camp to act as Assistant Scoutmasters and assist in the skills instruction. High Adventure The High Adventure Program will be a revamped Delaware Adventure of the past. Flow in the Delaware River has been severely impacted by drought conditions as well as Lake Perry. The consequence is that the canoeing element on the Delaware River and Lake Perry will need substitution or replacement by another element. The program will only be offered during the third Camp Jayhawk session, July Merit Badge Immersion Camp The Merit Badge Immersion Camp, July 1 through July 3, will have its check-in after 7:00 p.m. on June 30 th and before 8:30 a.m. on July 1. If you check-in during the morning of July 1, it may affect the ability of the Scouts to earn all the merit badges, they enroll in. The Merit Badge Immersion Camp will offer several merit badges that are not offered during the three sessions of Camp Jayhawk. These merit badges are: Communication, Kayaking, Painting, Plant Science, Public Speaking, and Surveying. Some merit badges and most other activities offered during the three Camp Jayhawk sessions will not be offered during the Merit Badge Immersion. If a Scout needs to complete one of the unoffered merit badges, he may attend the Make Up Sessions and the Evening Sessions in the appropriate program area. (See the separate camp schedules and listings information)
