Reminder: Help Keep our Pools Clean Clean pools means everyone can enjoy the fun! Remember these things before you swim: Participants who are not toilet-trained must wear pool diapers Take a quick shower before entering the pool Do not attend a public swim or lesson if you or your child are feeling sick, have sickness-related symptoms, or have had a fever within 48 hours Exit the pool quickly if a swimmer is feeling sick Rather than heavy meals right before swimming, try a light snack instead and eat afterwards Registration Online & automated telephone registration: Begins February 28, See page 58 for more information. All registrations will be processed on a first come, first serve basis. Registering for two sets of lessons at the same time? If a participant does not complete their level in the spring session, please call to amend your summer registration, subject to availability. Cancellations We reserve the right to cancel or alter any class time, fee, instructor or location if needed. Every effort will be made to avoid these changes or to reschedule cancelled classes when possible. Even though you are in receipt of a program confirmation, insufficient registrations may result in class changes or cancellations. The Lifesaving Society program Swim for Life offers the following benefits and features: Seamless program complete from Parent & Tot through Leadership Program content focus is stroke and skill driven Water Smart messages are embedded in the skills of the swim program If the Swimmer Register in: Class Ratios: Is 4 to 12 months old and ready to learn to enjoy the water with a parent Parent & Tot 1 12:1 Is 12 to 24 months old and ready to learn to enjoy the water with a parent Parent & Tot 2 12:1 Is 2 to 3 years old and ready to learn to enjoy the water with a parent Parent & Tot 3 12:1 Is 3 to 5 years and just starting out on his or her own with assistance... Can get in and out alone, jump into chest deep water assisted, float and glide on front and back with help, blow bubbles and get face wet... Can get in and out alone, jump into chest deep water wearing a PFD, submerge and exhale underwater, and float on front and back with PFD for 5 seconds... Can jump into deep water, recover objects from the bottom, hold their breath underwater, float and glide on front and back... Can swim comfortably and is looking for a new twist on swimming lessons. Improve your strokes and endurance while trying new challenges like swimming under gates, races and relays, rope throw or swimming with fins... Can tread water 30 sec, do handstands and somersaults, swim 15m front and back crawl, and complete 10m whip kick... Can do dives, swim underwater, tread water for 1 minute, of front and back crawl, whip kick on front, breaststroke arms with breathing, and interval training of 4 x... Can do shallow dives and cannonballs, stationary eggbeater kick, 50m of front and back crawl, breaststroke for, sprint, interval training of 4 x 50m... Can do stride entries and compact jumps, eggbeater kick and scissor kick, sprint breaststroke over 50m, and a workout of 300m... Can complete a 350m workout, care for a victim with external bleeding and perform head and foot-first surface dives... Can swim 200m in 6 minutes, care for a victim in shock and support a 2 kg weight for 1 minute... Can complete a 600m workout, care for a victim with a broken bone, remove an unconscious victim from the pool... Instruction for 13 to 16 years old. 4 Teens & Adults Swimming Lesson Alternatives Teen or Adult Lessons - 1/2/3 It s never too late to conquer your fear of the water, or improve your swimming abilities. We provide a fun, relaxed environment and an experienced instructor to get the results you want. Our instructors build on the fundamental skills of our Swim for Life program, using a logical approach to improve your swimming abilities. Our instructors can t wait to help you achieve your goals! Intro to Masters - Learn to Train This program is designed for those interested in taking their basic swim skills to the next level. Learn more efficient strokes, proper breathing techniques and build overall endurance. Work with a qualified coach to learn drills, follow sets including pace times, and become more efficient in the water. This program is perfect for anyone looking to improve their fitness, train for a triathlon event or become a more confident swimmer. Prerequisite: Adult Lessons level 2 or the ability to swim 50m (2 lengths) comfortably. Masters Training Program This program is designed for those looking to maintain and challenge their fitness. A qualified coach will work with you each practice to help you reach your fitness goals in the pool. Each session will focus on a variety of drills, speed work and endurance. Perfect for anyone looking to improve their speed or endurance in the water in a fun group setting. Prerequisite: Ability to swim 200m (8 lengths) comfortably. Springboard Diving This program follows the Canadian Amateur Diving Association s standards. Participants will learn basic jumps and dives on a 1 metre diving board. Prerequisite: 8-15 years old and able to swim. Snorkelling 101 Learn basic snorkelling skills such as mask clearing, correct flipper use, surface dives and much more. Pre-registration required. Prerequisite: Swimmer 6. Practice Session Struggling with a physical skill or rescue item from an advanced lifesaving course? Interested in becoming a lifeguard and looking for an opportunity to sharpen your skills? This program gives you an opportunity to practice and improve your skills by working with a qualified aquatic instructor. Great opportunity to practice before an exam or recertification course. 5 Halton Hills Lifeguard Club HHLC Beginner A recreational entry level introduction to lifesaving sport, with a continued focus on stroke development. This program emphasizes healthy lifestyles, teaches team building, ethics in sport and athlete responsibility. Athletes progress at their own pace and complete skills like m workouts, dives, flip turns, towing with a rescue tube and swimming under obstacles. Pre-requisite: Complete Swimmer 3, can swim easily and comfortable in deep water, age 7 to 9 in Junior program, 10 to 16 in Youth program. HHLC Development Athletes take their training and fitness to a new level by training twice a week. Participants focus on improving their technical ability, strength, endurance and speed. It also presents a fantastic opportunity to develop the overall fitness and lifesaving skills needed to pursue advanced lifesaving qualifications. Athletes will use goal setting and optional competitions as tools to evaluate their progress, performance and overall fitness. Pre-requisite: Complete HHLC Intermediate, ages 9 to 12 in Youth program, 13 to 16 in Bronze program. HHLC Intermediate This program offers a continuation of the Beginner program and introduces concepts for lifelong training for health and fitness, including long-term goal setting. Athletes work on skills like relay transitions, stroke refinement and complete longer workout sets in preparation for the Development program. Pre-requisite: Complete HHLC Beginner program, ages 7 to 9 in Junior program, 10 to 16 in Youth program. HHLC Senior Athletes will focus on improving their technical ability, strength, endurance and speed in Lifesaving Sport. It also presents a fantastic opportunity to develop and maintain the overall fitness and lifesaving skills needed to pursue advanced lifesaving qualifications. Learning how to swim can open up countless opportunities for children and youth to get active and involved with the wider community. While the Town of Halton Hills offers a wide variety of swimming instruction, these local clubs are also a great way to help your child fall in love with the sport of swimming. Acton Aqua Ducks Learn the strokes and endurance required to be a competitive swimmer in a fun team atmosphere. Training primarily at the Acton Indoor Pool. Georgetown Waves (Special Olympics) The Georgetown Waves are a competitive swim team for youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. Halton Hills Blue Fins A nationally recognized competitive swim team with members ranging from beginners to nationally ranked competitive athletes. 18 Advanced Lifesaving 24 Bronze Star & Basic First Aid Prerequisite: Star Patrol recommended Excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Develop problem-solving and decision making skills individually and in partners. Learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to stay safe in the water. Includes a timed 400m swim. Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid Prerequisite: 13 yrs of age by end of class or Bronze Star Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows, carries, defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues. Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR, incorporates emergency first aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid. Lifesaving Assistant Instructor Prerequisite: 14 years of age by end of class and Bronze Cross (or higher) certification. Through classroom learning and in-water practice, Lifesaving Society Assistant Instructor prepares candidates to help certified instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. Candidates are introduced to key principles of learning and teaching, and they master basic progressions. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid (SFA) & CPR-C Prerequisite: None Standard First Aid with CPR-C covers all aspects of first aid and CPR. SFA incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat and cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns and other medical emergencies. Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid & CPR-C Recertification Prerequisite: Current LSS Standard First Aid & CPR-C Please bring original certification. Standard First Aid (SFA) award holders may recertify their Lifesaving Society SFA certification once. To renew SFA certification subsequently, award holders must repeat the full SFA course. Thereafter, individuals may renew by alternating recertifications and original courses. Holders of Standard First Aid certificates from other agencies may not recertify their certificate on a Lifesaving Society recertification course. They must take the full LSS Standard First Aid Course. If your SFA certification is more than 3 years old, you must take a full course, not a recertification. NL (National Lifeguard - Pool Option) Prerequisite: 16 yrs of age by end of class and Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid Recognized as the standard measurement of lifeguard performance in Canada, NL education is designed to develop a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard. 100% attendance is required. Swimmers who do not meet the requirements for the admittance policy will not be granted admission to the pool. Family, Youth and 55+ swims have additional requirements. STOP! Recreation & Parks offers training with a wide range of times and instructors available based on the size and needs of your group. Training can be provided at your site or a location can be provided. For more information contact ext Automated External Defibrillator Training (no certification issued) Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training builds on the skills learned in CPR and first aid courses. AED provides knowledge of how the heart works and what goes wrong when defibrillation is required. Learn when and how to operate an automated external defibrillator. Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid (SFA) & CPR-C Prerequisite: None Standard First Aid with CPR-C covers all aspects of first aid and CPR. SFA incorporates all Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat and cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns and other medical emergencies.
