1 Class A Public Swimming Pool Inspection Questions Class A Pool a public pool such as those found in a community centre, gym or recreational camp 1. Ensure public has no access to water facility when closed. 2. Continuous operation of all equipment and chemical feeders 3. Recirculation system of water facility in good working condition 4. Water suction outlets or drain covers are secure 5. Deck and walls maintained in sanitary condition and free from hazards 6. Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) tested daily before pool is open 7. Pool deck is clearly delineated from the general area (0.6 meters from edge of pool) 8. Perimeter pool drain is kept free from debris 9. Foot sprays are maintained in good working order and kept sanitary Operation / Washroom/Dressing Room 10. Sanitary facility kept in safe and sanitary condition 11. Every bather shall take a cleansing shower/bath using soap and warm water before entering deck 12. Owner/operator to ensure no food or beverage except for water is supplied/consumed within water facility Operation / Water Clarity and Black Disc 13. Black disc on white background affixed to bottom of pool at its deepest point 14. Water clarity satisfactory Water Chemistry / Testing 15. Sufficient supply of chemicals and testing devices Water Chemistry / Chemical Handling 16. Safe storage and handling of all chemicals
2 17. Gas chlorine (Cl) handled properly, safety equipment present and chlorinating equipment operational 18. An adjustable dosing device is used to administer chlorine, a chlorine compound or a bromine compound Water Chemistry / Testing 19. Manual testing conducted once a day for pools with automatic sensing devices (ph, FAC and Total Cl or Br only) 20. Pools without automatic sensing device conduct manual test 1/2 hour before pool opens and every two hours the pool is open for use Water Chemistry /Water Chemistry 21. ph is within range of 7.2 to Free available chlorine (FAC) at a minimum of 0.5mg/L 23. Stabilized free available chlorine (FAC) at a minimum of 1.0mg/L when used with cyanurate stabilization 24. Total bromine (Br) residual at a minimum of 2mg/L 25. Cyanuric acid is not greater than 60mg/L 26. Total alkalinity at a minimum of 80mg/L 27. Water is maintained free from visible matter and contamination 28. Make-up water added daily 29. Water meter registers the volume of make-up water Record Keeping / Record Keeping 30. Daily records completed and signed 31. Other records signed and completed 32. Records retained for one year Safety / Emergency Telephone and Procedure Emergency telephone is present and operational 34. Written emergency and operational procedures and instructions available at the pool Operation /General Area 35. Moveable equipment (i.e. portable diving stands, starting platforms, swing ropes) on deck only when in use under supervision 36. Diving board or diving platform has non-slip surface finish
3 37. Locked gate preventing access to diving platform 3 m or greater when not in use 38. Diving platform 3 m or greater - pool used solely for diving unless rigid barrier/double safety lines 300 mm apart supported by buoys in place 39. Emergency telephone sign posted with complete list of emergency contacts 40. Pool notice signs posted 41. Shower signs posted at each shower area and every entrance to the deck used by bathers Signs / Deck Signs 42. Depth markings present in appropriate locations (for all pools and spas > 3 m in horizontal dimension) 43. Admissions Standard for Public pools notice posted at facility entrance ant at least 2 other locations within the pool enclosure 44. Shallow water/no diving caution notice (pool maximum water depth < 2.5 m) 45. Pool with ramps must have "CAUTION - NO DIVING" sign on each wall or fence closing the pool (letters not less than 150 millimeters high) 46. Ramp barriers provided Safety Equipment / Safety Equipment 47. Safety equipment available and in good repair 48. Correct number of control stations are present (Class A pool and wave action pool) 49.
