2 Rye Golf Club Swimming and Diving 2015 Welcome back to another year of fun and sun with the Rye Golf Club Swimming and Diving Team. The coaches and I hope to provide you with a great summer of swim team events. In recent years, the R.G.C Swimming team has grown to record size. This holds true at other clubs in the Westchester Conference as well. As a result, the length or our competitions against other clubs has grown from an average of three and-a-half hours to excess of five hours. This increased time has resulted in a lack of access to the pool for our members, as well as problems for the meet officials who must take significant time from their jobs in order to referee the meets. The coaches have established specific criteria for the selection process for each age group. Participation on the team requires that children be able to satisfy the selection requirements. The first day of tryouts is June 15th and will hold tryouts until June 18 th. It is necessary for your child to be at those tryout sessions or they will not be members of this year s team. Please refer to the important dates below: June 15 th to 18 th By June 18th h Mandatory Tryouts 3:30pm; Each swimmer only needs to be seen one time, swimmer information sheet distributed. Swimmer Information sheet to be returned to Coaches. June 18 th & 23 rd Swim and Surf will be at RGC with Team suits 3:15-5:15 Week of June 22 th Swim Team fee is due. 3 June Schedule June 15th -18th: 22 nd - 24th 3:30 pm practice for all team members *No pre-team Summer Starting Date Monday, June29 th, 2015 Monday to Friday 8 am to 9:30 am Long course (using full pool) 10 & over 9 & 10 age group 9:30 am to 10:45 am 7 & 8 and under age group 10:30 am to 11:30 am Monday to Thursday 11:30 am to 12 noon Pre-teamers, age 6 & 7 Diving Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm 10 and older/ age groups to be determined by coach Coaches are available for any of your questions 30 minutes before the start of practice, and for 30 minutes at the end of practice. You may also leave a message for them on the Swim Team Office phone and they will return your call. Please be aware that during practice, the coaches attention should be directed to the safety and learning of your children.

4 Rye Golf Club Swim Team Mission Statement: The Rye Golf Club swim team exists to provide an introduction to competitive swimming that will allow each child who has attained a minimal level of stroke proficiency to improve their abilities, and benefit from the social interaction that team sports are well known for providing. It is not designed to be, nor does current staffing and facility limitations allow it to be a learn to swim program. Policy s Team Selection The RGC Swimming and Diving team has grown to a record size in resent years. As a result, management of the team has required that we actively evaluate the children who try out. This is primarily to insure the safety of the children due to the fact that the depth of the pool in the lanes is 6 ft. deep. Also, there is a danger to the child who cannot keep up with the pace of the lane. The following requirements were developed to guide the coaching staff in the selection process: 6 & under, 8 & under, boys and girls; Children must be able to complete 2 laps of both freestyle and backstroke. These laps must be completed continuously with legal stroke mechanics. The child must be able to demonstrate rotary breathing. 10 & under, 12 & under, boys and girls; Children must be able to complete 2 laps of freestyle and backstroke and butterfly. These laps must be completed continuously with legal stroke mechanics. 14 & under, 17 & under, boys and girls; Children must be able to complete 4 laps of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. These laps must be completed continuously with legal stroke mechanics. We suggest that, if your child cannot meet those requirements, that they avail themselves of lessons that are offered by the club. Participation Involvement on a consistent basis is critical to the development of team dynamics. The team will offer 5 practice s each week. It is a requirement that each child participate in 50% of the offered practices each week, even if they are still practicing with their USS teams.

5 Team Swimsuit and Cap Each child is required to purchase a designated team swimsuit and swim cap. Arrangements are made each year with a local vendor to provide these team suits at a reduced team price for a limited time prior to the start of the season. Parents are responsible of obtaining this suit and cap from the vendor. Team Fee Each child must pay the appropriate fee to be a member of the RGC swimming team. Payment of the fee should take place after the child is picked for the team, during the first full week of practice. Additional members of a family will be eligible for a reduced fee. The fee is used to pay for expenses incurred during the season, including such items as referee s costs; trophies, ribbons, t-shirts and other needed items. First child - $200 Second child (and each additional child) -$150 The Team fee will be charged to the members account. Activity Fee A small fee will be collected by the Treasurer of the Swim Team to cover social activities (ice cream social and pizza after Barbara Leichtweiss Memorial Invitational) ribbon races and coaches gifts. End of Year Award eligibility A child must participate in 3 of the 5 dual meets to be eligible to receive a trophy at the Team dinner. Individual time sheets for the season will be given out at the Team dinner as well. Notices The Swim Team has two notice boards. The main notice board that is located outside the First Aid room will have information on events, times and practices, and Line ups for up coming invitational s. The second notice board is located on the terrace by the snack bar. This board is used to post Championship line-ups, and swimmer /diver of the week.
