4 REQUIRED FORMS The following forms MUST be turned in on or before October 14 th before practice begins in order to participate in practice. Any student-athlete that does not have these forms turned in WILL NOT be allowed to practice until they have done so. o Physical Exam Card (once/year) o OHSAA Authorization o Eligibility Policy o Insurance Waiver/ Survey Form (once/year) o Emergency Medical Form (once/sports season) This is for the coaches to have at all times. o Lexington Sportsmanship/Code of Conduct Agreement. **I will be cross-referencing the list of student-athletes who sign up with the list the school has. If you believe you have turned everything in and the school says otherwise, please let me know so I can look into it.** SEASON This season should be an excellent one as we go for a 6-peat as North Central Ohio Middle School Champions. Coaches make the final decisions on all events and relays that the children swim. Relays will be selected based upon times. If you have an issue during the week, please wait until after practice to discuss it with the coaches. During practice we need to focus on the swimmers and their safety in the water. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. We want to make this season enjoyable for both parents and athletes. Let s stay positive, stay focused, continue the Lexington swimming tradition, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!! PRACTICES All practices will be held at the Friendly House (380 N. Mulberry Street, Mansfield, OH 44902). Each swimmer is to be in the water at the scheduled time. Dryland practices are mandatory and will be counted towards missed practices. The only way that a practice is excused is if a swimmer has a doctor s appointment, family emergency, is participating in another school related activity/sport, or is not in school that day. Once a swimmer has three (3) unexcused practices, they will be required to sit out a meet. If you have a doctor s appointment, please let the coaches know in advance and have a written doctor s excuse available for practice the next day. If school is cancelled for whatever reason, there will be no practice that day. On early release days student will go to the cafeteria for an hour study hall before getting on the bus to go to practice. On Thursday meets, students will report to my room 213 for a study hall session, until bus arrives at 4 p.m. DRYLAND After each water practice, we will hold dryland for 30 minutes at the Friendly House. Each swimmer is required to dress in t- shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are also allowed. There should be no jeans, flip flops, boots, or just sports bras worn. If a swimmer repeatedly cannot follow the dress code, the coaches may charge them with an unexcused absence. Be sure to bring a hat for wet hair after practice.
5 TRANSPORTATION The student-athletes will have transportation provided by the school to the Friendly House for all practices and weekday home meets. It is the responsibility of the parents to pick their children up after practice. We encourage car pooling to save on gas and cut down on trips to the Friendly House. Once all information has been compiled, we will hand out a roster with addresses and phone numbers to make car pooling easier. All student-athletes MUST travel to away meets on school transportation. If you do not ride the bus, you will not be allowed to compete. Extreme exceptions may possibly be made, but it is the responsibility of each student-athlete and a parent to contact one of the coaches at least 24 hours prior to the meet. At the conclusion of each away meet, athletes will be permitted to ride home with their parents, but only after a parent has signed the coach s form after the meet has ended. Student-athletes must remember that they must abide by all state regulations while riding on the bus. They will not be permitted to eat or drink anything while on the bus. We will more than likely stop and eat lunch on the way home from our away meet at Kenton. Swimmers are asked to bring their own money. More information on that will come out as the time approaches. Coach Heimann will follow the bus to the Friendly House. Any type of misbehaving will result in the bus being pulled over and the coach dealing with it directly. Please be courteous and respectful of the bus and driver just as you would if you were riding to or from school. SWIM MEETS Upon arrival of a meet, there will be a lineup posted. Check the lineups for any changes particular in relays. If swimmers do not show prior to the start of the meet, it is possible the relay lineups will change again prior to the start of the meet, so please check them again. The coaches will try and advise swimmers of any changes. * Keep a SHARPIE permanent pen in your swim bag to write your event numbers on your hand. Swimmers should bring: At least two (2) towels Extra cap and goggles A warm-up suit, or sweatpants and sweatshirts Light Snack (food is not permitted on the pool deck) Pool shoes Please write your name on all of your belonging including your swim suit, goggles, clothes, etc. It is also a good idea to include our team initials since items are frequently left at away meets and it is difficult to track down the owner. UNIFORMS Each swimmer will need to have a practice suit, meet suit, goggles, and swim caps. The practice materials are your choice, however the meet suit and cap are mandatory. Please wear team suits for meets only. The team suit is not to be worn in practice so that it does not get worn out. The type of goggles worn is strictly the choice of the swimmer. The school will provide each swimmer with one (1) meet cap. Meet caps are to be worn only during meets. Swim suite fittings are on Fri. Oct. 18 at 2:25 p.m. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to be there but if not available provide swimmer with a blank check.
6 HOME MEETS Athletes should arrive at the Friendly House 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the start of each home meet. This will allow them to change, stretch, put in lane ropes, and warm up. Everyone on the team will participate in each meet unless they are injured or miss due to disciplinary reasons. All athletes are required to stay until the conclusion of the meet. Team members should remain to cheer on and support their fellow teammates. After each home meet, the swimmers will warm-down, take out lane ropes, and help clean up the team area and locker rooms. **We need the help of all parents at home meets to help setup, time, and score the meet. Please help us out! We will need all the help that we can get so that the coaches can spend as much time as possible coaching your children. If we do not get enough volunteers at each home meet, we will be forced to forfeit the meet.** SPECTATORS Wear clothing suitable for temperatures that are tropical inside and may be sub-zero outside. The key is layering. Brings a seat cushion to soften bleacher seats, a lawn chair in case there are no bleachers, a stopwatch for timing, and a small notebook for recording times. Know how to encourage a young swimmer with a positive attitude. Progress for a swimmer is measured not in wins or losses, but in PBs (personal best times). WHAT TO EAT The best pre-practice, or pre-meet meal should contain primarily carbohydrates. Carbohydrate-rich foods like pasta, breads and cereal are easily digested and absorbed. Rule of thumb: grams of carbohydrate per pound of body weight one to four hours prior to exercise. Keep a fluid bottle by the side of the pool when working out and drink between repeats and sets. Choose sports drinks like Gatorade that taste good, stimulate fluid absorption in the body, maintain proper fluid balance in the body, and provide energy to working muscles. Cramps can be kept to a minimum by giving your swimmer fresh fruit (especially bananas), water and reducing salt intake. POT LUCK TEAM DINNER On Friday, Dec. 13th we will have a team dinner to celebrate our season and to prepare for the championships the next day. This will be held at the Junior High School cafeteria. Please sign up for what you will be bringing before you leave the parent orientation. COMMUNICATION Remind101 Free and Safe Text & Message Alerts 1.
