3 PREFACE This book of standards, the ANSI/APSP Standards: as Referenced in the 2009 IBC and IRC, is part of a series of the International Codes Referenced Standards published by the International Code Council (ICC ) and its standard agency partners. The International Codes Referenced Standards series is developed to facilitate code compliance through adoption of the International Codes (I-Codes ) and their effective enforcement. These codes and their referenced standards are designed to work together as a complete regulatory package. This book of standards contains the most widely used swimming pool and spa standards and incorporates all of the Association of Swimming Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) standards referenced in the 2009 edition of the International Building Code (IBC ) and the International Residential Code (IRC ). Because the ANSI/APSP standards are referenced only in the IBC and IRC, this publication contains all APSP standards for the entire family of I-Codes. The development of this new publication accomplishes two primary objectives of benefit to the code user. First, it compiles the ANSI/APSP standards adopted by reference in the I-Codes into a single, easy-to-use companion document. Second, it provides a way for code users to costeffectively obtain such needed standards referenced in the International Codes. This publication in the series of International Codes Referenced Standards is the result of a joint effort between the ICC and the APSP, who have developed this compilation as a service to both the swimming pool and spa community and all using the International Codes.
