3 Zodiac s New Learn to Swim Program Endorsed by the Lifesaving Society We are very excited to announce Zodiac s new Learn to Swim Program that is endorsed by the Lifesaving Society. This program includes learn to swim progressions, fitness, water safety as well as first aid. We believe this program will set the stage for your swimmer to learn about and enjoy swimming for life. Although the program has been modified and enhanced, our high-quality low-ratio lessons, top-notch swim instruction and excellent customer service remain unchanged. The Zodiac Learn to Swim consists of 12 levels. Levels 1, 2, and 3 are organized based on the child s age and thus the student to teacher ratio will be different: Zodiac Preschool Levels 1, 2, 3 (2:1 student: teacher ratio) are for students between the ages of years old Zodiac Swim Levels 1, 2, 3 (3:1 student: teacher ratio) are for students 4.5 years old +. Some other changes include: 1. The Zodiac Tot Program is now broken up into three age groups; Zodiac Baby Tot (for swimmers 3 to 12 months), Zodiac Tweener Tot (for swimmers 12 to 24 months), and Zodiac Senior Tot (for swimmers 2 to 3.5 years old); 2. Elimination of Repeat levels, as we have created Stroke Levels; 3. The Stroke Levels do not have any water safety components, swimmers will be focusing on stroke technique and fitness items; and 4. The Tadpole class has been renamed Mini Private. On the following pages, you will find a conversion chart, which will clearly indicate which Zodiac Swim Level your child will be in (based on his/her most recent level under the previous system). There will also be descriptions of the new levels as well as the days, times and fees of the classes organized by level and then location. If you have questions or require any additional information, please feel free to contact us either by (info@zodiacswim.on.ca) or phone ext 151. We look forward to swimming with your family and to creating an even more amazing Zodiac Swim School experience! Registration for Summer 2018 opens on April 24 th 2018 at 12:00noon SUMMER

8 Zodiac Tweener Tot Level Descriptions Parent and Tot class for children who are between months 6:1 ratio, 30 minute class No previous swimming experience required. Parent/Caregiver participates with the child. Participants will need to wear a reusable water diaper. These are available for purchase from Zodiac Swim School. Swimmers joining this group who swam in the Zodiac Baby Tot program will have the opportunity to build upon the experiences in the Baby Tot program and become more independent with the variety of swimming skills and progressions. The program provides a fun and exciting introduction (and continuation) to the aquatic environment and focuses on exploration, water safety, personal development and individual progress. Each Zodiac Tot class is structured to include enthusiastic play and songs, interactive circle time and incorporates basic skill development through the use of creative and stimulating pool equipment to enhance learning in a creative environment! Skills explored include experiencing different ways to move through the water, hand-eye co-ordination, jumps, floats, glides, blast-offs, roll-overs, breath control and submersion. Emphasis is placed on promoting independence and self-safety in, on and around the water. Jumping in (sitting or standing) followed by rolling over to gliding/swimming/kicking then returning back to the wall/stairs are practiced each week to build strength and confidence. PFDs (personal floatation devices, including infant lifejackets) are introduced or reinforced and used to enhance kicking and buoyancy skills. The swimmers wearing their PFDs will have an opportunity to sit in an inflatable boat simulating a boating experience. More independent swimming and exiting the pool wearing a PFD is practiced with this age group. Independent body movement and treasure hunting for submerged objects is introduced and practiced on a specialized tot table (platform in the water). Blasting off from the table and combining skills such as roll overs and submersions are introduced. Caregivers are the main facilitators throughout each lesson while an experienced Zodiac Tot instructor leads the class and ensures that the individual needs of each child are addressed. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of each session. Performance is not evaluated. SUMMER

9 Zodiac Senior Tot Parent and Tot class for children who are between years 6:1 Ratio, 30 minute class No previous swimming experience required. Parent/Caregiver participates with the child. Each Zodiac Tot class is structured to include enthusiastic play and songs, interactive circle time and incorporates basic skill development through the use of creative and stimulating pool equipment to enhance learning in a creative environment! Reinforcement of rhythmic breathing takes place through creative games using bubbles, straws, ping pong balls and more. Caregivers are the main facilitators throughout each lesson while an experienced Zodiac Tot instructor leads the class and ensures that the individual needs of each child are addressed. Participants will start working on the skills in the first levels of the Zodiac Learn to Swim program and will receive a certificate upon completion of each session. SUMMER

10 Mini Private Swim Lesson (for 2 years old +) 1:1 Ratio, 15 minute class Pre-requisite: Minimum 2 years of age. Prior participation in Zodiac Tot is highly recommended, if the child is between the ages of 2 and 3 years old. If the child is not toilet trained, the child must wear a reusable water diaper. These are available for purchase at the pool. Our Mini Private Lesson is a 15-minute, one-to-one (private) lesson that can be used one of two ways: 1) The first way is a wonderful transitional class from Parent and Tot to group lessons without a caregiver. Toddlers who have been introduced to the aquatic environment through Zodiac Tot's program and who are ready to be independent of his/her caregiver, are able to continue developing skills, building trust with his/her instructor in preparation for group lessons. Swimmers will work on Zodiac Preschool 1 (and higher) standards in the class and receive a Zodiac Progress card at the end of the session. 2) The second way the Mini Private can be used is as a way to extend the student s regular weekly lesson by 15 minutes either before or after the lesson. The 15-minutes allows the student to focus on one skill or stroke to assist overcoming a challenge. If the schedule allows, you could book the mini private from the beginning as before or after extension. An alternative is to book the 15-minute mini private randomly without a set number to again focus on a specific skill, stroke or challenge. If is it mid-session, and you would like to add a few Mini-Private Lessons please call/ the Zodiac office to check availability. SUMMER
