He was also a part of the seventh-place 400 medley relay, eighth-place 400 free relay and 10th-place 800 free relay teams. Cooper set school records in those relays as well as the 200 and 500 freestyles. Cooper was also named a CSCAA academic all-america : Cooper earned honorable mention all-america honors after placing ninth in the 1,650 free, 12th in the 1,000 free and 13th in the 500 free. He holds school records in 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay. Harken was also named a CSCAA academic all-america : Harken made the provisional cut for the NCAA meet in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. HIGH SCHOOL: Harken earned first-team all-state honors in 1998, 1999 and He was first-team all-conference four years and named to the Kansas City Star all-metro first team. He set school records in the 100 breaststroke (59.76), 100 butterfly, (52.11) and 50 freestyle (21.67). PERSONAL: Born Oct. 30, 1981, in Rochelle, Ill.... the son of Gaylen and Jane Harken... an agricultural science major... in college, his father played football and his mother competed in basketball. MATT PRAY SENIOR, BUTTERFLY//BACKSTROKE NAPERVILLE, ILL. (NAPERVILLE NORTH) B e s t T i m e s : 100 fly, 48.96; 200 fly, 1:49.78; 50 free, 21.34; 100 free, 46.42; 100 back, : Pray led the butterfly squad, placing third in the 100 fly, fourth in 200 fly, 21st in 100 back and seventh in the 200 freestyle, 200 medley, and 400 medley relays at nationals. He was also a member of the eighthplace 400 freestyle relay team. Pray holds school records in the 100 and 200 flys, 400 and 800 freestyle relays and 200 and 400 medley relays. He was also named a CSCAA academic all-america : Pray posted the highest national finish ever by a member of the men s team when he placed second in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Division II championships, earning his second all-america honors. He also finished ninth in the 200 butterfly at nationals : In his first year, Pray was named an all-america after placing sixth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 butterfly. Pray was also a member of the seventh-place 200 medley relay and ninth-place 400 medley relay teams, as well as the 10th-place 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relay squads. The 200 (1:34.13) and 400 (3:26.68) medley relay teams also set school standards in those events at the NCAA meet. HIGH SCHOOL: Pray lettered in swimming four years. In his senior year, he was captain and MVP of the team, and was named an all-america. PERSONAL: Born Nov. 6, 1980, in Naperville, Ill.... son of Thomas and Dianne Pray... a biology major... his sister, Krista, is also an all-america performer for the Truman women s swim team. HIGH SCHOOL: Struble was part of the state championship swim team four years, assuming the role of team captain his senior year. He was an all- America pick for the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 freestyle relay, and he helped set the state record for the 200 free relay (1:26.12). PIUS X) B e s t T i m e s : 100 back, 52.87; 200 back, 1:58.57; 100 fly, 52.00; 200 fly, 1:57.92; 200 IM, 1: : At his first national meet, Teson swam the backstroke legs on the seventh-place 200 and 400 medley relay teams. Individually, he finished 22nd in the 100 back, 23rd in the 100 fly and 30th in the 200 IM. He was named to the at-large MIAA commissioner s academic honor roll : Teson provisionally qualified for nationals with a B-cut in the 100 yard butterfly. HIGH SCHOOL: Teson set eight records and qualified for state in all 11 events. He was all-metro, all-conference and all-state, as well as a team captain. (LOGAN ROGERSVILLE) B e s t T i m e s : 200 breast, 2:10.78; 100 breast, 1:00.82; 400 IM, 4:11.01; 200 IM, 2: : Brosseau placed third in the 400 IM, ninth in the 500 free, 10th in the 200 breast and 12th in the 100 breast at the Central States Championships. He posted the second-fastest times on the team in the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley. HIGH SCHOOL: Brosseau was Central Zone champion in the 200 breaststroke and placed second in the 100 breaststroke. He was also president of his junior class. PERSONAL: Born Dec. 24, 1982, in Springfield, Mo.... the son of Daniel and Sheril Brosseau... an exercise science major. KYLE EDIGER, JUNCTION CITY, KAN. (JUNCTION CITY) B e s t T i m e s : 200 free, 1:45.00; 100 free, 48.44; 50 free, 22.24; 100 fly, 54.43; : Ediger achieved a provisional cut in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.00 after placing sixth at the Central States Championships. At that meet, he also placed 15th in the 100 free, 16th in the 100 fly and 22nd in the 50 free. HIGH SCHOOL: Ediger earned all-state honors in In 1999 and 2000, he was named MVP and team captain. Ediger set school records in the 50 (22.24), 100 (48.94) and 200 (1:50.33) freestyles. He was named academic all-i-70 league for three years. PERSONAL: Born Jan. 4, 1982, in Manhattan, Kan.... the son of Mark and Avis Ediger... a business major. CALEB HOPKINS JUNIOR, BUTTERFLY K ANSAS CITY, MO. (OAK PARK) B e s t T i m e s : 100 fly, 53.94; 200 IM, 2:03.68; : Hopkins helped out the team in the butterfly events, placing fourth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 fly at the UNO invitational. At that meet, he also placed seventh in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 breast. At the Central States Championships, he charted numerous best times while exhibitioning his events. He was also named to the at-large MIAA commissioner s academic honor roll : Hopkins had his best performances of the season in the 100 and 200 butterfly races at the Central States Championships. HIGH SCHOOL: Hopkins was an all-state swimmer in 1999 and He set records for his high school in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.10), 200 IM (2:05.69), 200 freestyle (1:51.69) and 500 freestyle (5:14.01). Hopkins was also a starter on the golf team two years. (DESMET JESUIT) B e s t T i m e s : 1,000 free, 9:50.44; 1,650 free, 16:37.98; 500 free, 4:48.91; 400 IM, 4: : Jacobi was a strong contender in the distance freestyle events throughout the year. At the Central States Championships, he placed seventh in the 1,650 and 1,000 freestyles and 10th in the 500 free, charting B-cuts in the 1,000 and 1,650. He was also named to the at-large MIAA commissioner s academic honor roll : Jacobi made the NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles. HIGH SCHOOL: Jacobi lettered in swimming all four years and was team captain. He also earned two letters for water polo. PERSONAL: Born March 7, 1982, in St. Louis... the son of Gerry and Gail Jacobi... a psychology major. BRYAN MEYER JUNIOR, BACKSTROKE TONGANOXIE, KAN. (TONGANOXIE) B e s t T i m e s : 200 back, 1:56.73; 500 free, 4:49.12; 100 back, : Meyer strengthened the backstroke squad as he placed fifth in the 200 back and 11th in the 100 back at the Central States Championships. His time of 1:56.73 in the 200 back put him 0.04 away from provisionally qualifying for nationals in that event. He was also named to the at-large MIAA commissioner s academic honor roll : Meyer placed fifth in the 200 back, ninth in the 1,000 free and 13th in the 500 free at the Central States Championships. Throughout the year, Beek was a strong contender in the middistance freestyle events. HIGH SCHOOL: His junior and senior years, Beek was named all-city and academic all-state. His senior year, he was also team captain and won the Sertoma Club s men s swimming award. Beek was a member of the honor roll every semester, and National Honor Society. BEN BURAS BUTTERFLY/IM (MILLARD WEST) B e s t T i m e s : 100 fly, 53.20; 200 IM, 1:59.53; 100 breast, 1:02.78; 200 breast, 2: : Buras swam best times in three out of four events at the Central States Championships, placing 14th in the 200 breast and 17th in the 100 fly, 200 IM, and 100 breast. RYAN BLASE LINCOLN, NEB (LINCOLN SOUTHEAST) Best times: 100 breast, 1:02.98; 200 breast, 2: : Blase added depth to the breaststroke events, charting places of ninth in the 200 breast, and 13th in the 100 breast at the UNO invitational. HIGH SCHOOL: Blase placed 6th at state his senior year in the 100 breast. He was also a member of the honor roll and finished in the top one percent in his class. (LAS CRUCES) B e s t T i m e s :200 fly, 1:59.41; 100 fly, : Engels rounded out the butterfly events by placing 14th in the 200 fly and 20th in the 100 fly at the Central States Championships. He also placed 17th in the 400 IM at that meet. HIGH SCHOOL: Engels was team captain all four years in high school and set school records in the 100 fly, 200 IM, 200 free, and 500 free.
