It s a big meet, head diving coach Kevin Witt said. There are a lot of really, really good athletes there, and I expect our girls to be competitive. Our goal is to get as many of them into the finals of each event as possible. The Rams will be represented by Melissa Bollig, Paige Greely, Mary Kate Hardy and Ariana Milone. Each qualified throughout the season by scoring above 265 on 1-Meter boards or 280 on 3-Meter. Bollig, Greely and Milone will compete in both events, while Hardy will focus on 1-Meter. No CSU athlete will participate in Saturday s platform diving event, which is rarely conducted during CSU s meets throughout the season. I think that they should do well, Witt said. Springboard has been our strength all year. Some are better at 1- and some are better on 3-Meter, so I think there will be opportunities for everybody to step up and compete strongly. All of them can compete on both boards, so we have a good shot. CSU s divers have been the most consistent athletes on the team this season, continuously being counted on to score points. Of 16 opportunities this season, a CSU diver finished in the top spot 10 times. Even more impressive, CSU swept a diving event on five occasions. In a dual meet against New Mexico (Jan. 18), Milone scored on the 1-Meter springboards, second-best in CSU history. A week later, at Wyoming, Greely scored a personal-best on the 3-Meter boards, which ranks fourth all-time. All of our divers have done a great job at scoring a lot of points for us. The diving scores are blended in to the overall swim meet scores, but I think if I were to score out just our divers versus other teams divers, we d be at a pretty good spot from a records standpoint. That s exciting to know going into a meet like this. At last month s Mountain West Championships, Milone and Bollig earned All-Mountain West honors for placing fifth and eighth, respectively, in 1-Meter diving. Throughout this week s regional action, 93 athletes representing 25 schools are expected to compete. CSU is tied for second in the MW with four representatives. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Home meets in BOLD. 3 Following each day s morning prelims, the top 18 divers will be invited back for the afternoon finals. Scoring will be cumulative between the six prelim dives and six jumps from the finals. The top two athletes in each event will be guaranteed a spot at the NCAA Championships. My hope is that we get into the finals, Witt said. From there, anything can happen. I hope they re consistent and competitive, and I expect that they will be. I think their mindset is good. It s a long season, especially after a long week at the conference championships, but they ve done a good job. I think they re excited to get down there and have a great meet. RECAPPING THE REGULAR SEASON Colorado State opened the swimming & diving season with one of the youngest teams to ever jump in the water, as 15 newcomers put on the Green and Gold for the first time. Although the team was young, the athletes were not lacking in talent. CSU finished the regular season with its best dual-meet record (6-5) in four seasons, and Head Coach Christopher Woodard s first winning season since his arrival in The dual-meet season prepared the Rams for several strong performances at the Mountain West Championships, held Feb in San Antonio, Texas. At the Championships, three Rams finished in the top eight for their respective events, earning All-Mountain West honors. Sophomore Jessica Shepard placed fifth in the 100 Backstroke while divers Milone (fifth) and Bollig (eighth) were honored in 1-Meter diving. The most consistent area throughout the season for the Rams was the diving squad. Milone led the group with the team s top scores in 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving, and received two MW Diver of the Week awards. Along with Milone, sophomore Greely and juniors Bollig and Hardy qualified for NCAA Diving Zones, the most divers represented in more than a decade. The Rams will graduate just four athletes, and are poised to build upon this year s strong season.
