1 Georgia Swimming Age Group Elite Camp Proposal Georgia Swimming will host an Elite Age Group Camp during Memorial Day weekend of every year. The goal of the camp will be to bring together some of the best 14&U swimmers in the state for a weekend of training, providing growth opportunities for both athletes and staff beyond those available in a regular club setting. Camp Overview: swimmers will be expected to arrive on Friday morning through early afternoon and leave on Sunday early afternoon; there will be 4 in-water training sessions (Friday late afternoon; Saturday morning and afternoon; Sunday morning). Additional out-of-water training sessions (topics: goal-setting, nutrition, psychology of success, etc) will be scheduled to complement the camp. For Sample Camp Schedule, see Attachment 2. Camp should be held in a facility where LCM training will be the norm. Swimmers will stay lodged together for the duration of the camp (Friday and Saturday night). Swimmer Selection criteria : the camp will be comprised of 60 swimmers (30 boys and 30 girls). Swimmers will be selected based on their LCM performance from the previous season (i.e. selection for the 2019 camp will be based on performances during the 2018 LCM season). Swimmers must be 13yr old or younger at the time of performance. The selection criteria will be the following: Top 16 (boys and girls) IMX scores for 13yr olds; After excluding the swimmers selected based on the criteria above, the swimmers who post the top time for each event (50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 Free, 100 and 200 back, 100 and 200 breast, 100 and 200 fly, 200 and 400 IM) will be invited to the camp; o If one swimmer has the top time for more than one event, the swimmer(s) with the highest PowerPoint (PP) score amongst the next place will be invited. Example: swimmer A has the top time for both 200 and 400 free; swimmer B has the next fastest time for 200 free with 850PP, while swimmer C has next fastest time for 400 free with 845PP; swimmers A and B will be invited for the camp Home coaches will be contacted first when their swimmers are selected for the camp, and have the right of refusal. After that, swimmer s families will be notified. If a coach or swimmer turns down the invitation, the next swimmer who would qualify based on the same criteria/event will be invited o Example: if a swimmer selected based on IMX Scores turns down the invitation, the next best IMX Score will be invited; if a swimmer selected based on his/her time for the 400IM turns down the invitation, the swimmer with the next fastest time for the 400IM will be invited This process will be repeated as many times as needed with the goal to fill all 60 slots of the camp. The initial selection and communication with coaches and athletes should take place in November of the year prior to each camp, and the final list of attendees should be published in February. o A swimmer must still be a member of Georgia Swimming at the time the list of attendees is finalized (swimmers who move outside the LSC or who are no longer members of USA-Swimming prior to the final list being published will be replaced based

2 on the criteria above) Camp Staff & Staff Selection: the camp Staff will be comprised of 1 Head Coach, 1 General Camp Manager, and 4 assistant coaches. Staff duties and selection process will be as follows: Head Coach: in charge of coordinating general schedule with Camp Manager; in charge of writing and conducting workouts, in charge of out-of-water training sessions (can delegate these functions to the assistant coaches, but will be ultimately responsible for those being done). In conjunction with General Camp Manager, ultimately in charge of disciplinary actions during the camp, when needed. At the end of the camp, should send a workout log to all swimmers home coaches. Will be tasked with reviewing performance of other staff members at the end of camp. o Selection criteria for Camp Head Coach: it is intended that the Camp Head Coach will be from outside the LSC. The LSC Coaches Chair and Age Group Chair will work together to suggest names, in order of preference, to be contacted. The Coaches Chair will be in charge of contacting and securing the Head Coach. The Camp Head Coach should be secured by December of the year prior to the camp. The LSC should budget for Head Coaches stipend (money being currently allocated for Camp), while travel should be covered by the camp (see camp costs ) General Camp Manager: in charge of coordinating general schedule with Head Coach, and communicating schedule (as well as any changes) to swimmers families and coaches. Will be the liaison between the camp staff and the facility where the camp is being held. General Camp Manager should be the first one to arrive at camp location (Thursday morning or early afternoon) and the last one to leave (still on duty until the last swimmers leaves or is picked up). o Selection criteria for Camp General Manager: will be appointed by the Age Group Chair, and confirmed by both the Age Group Committee and the BoD. Appointment should take place by November of the year prior to the camp, and confirmation should be done by December of that same year Assistant Coaches : will be in charge of assisting Head Coach during workouts, as needed. Might be directed by Head Coach to plan and prepare workouts. Might also be directed to prepare and present one of the out-of-water training sessions. Assistant coaches will assist with swimmers supervision away from the pool as well, and help with chaperone duties, as assigned by the General Camp Manager and Head Coach o Selection criteria for Assistant Coaches: application will be made available in January, and be due in February, on the 3 rd day of Age Group State. Age Group Chair and Coaches Chair will meet to select assistant coaches. It is recommended that at least half the assistant coaches will also be members of the Georgia Zone Team for that same year. Guest Coaches/Presenters: All staff will be expected to arrive at the camp on Thursday afternoon/early evening, and depart on Sunday late afternoon. Camp Costs: with the exception of the stipend and travel costs for the Head Coach, this camp should be budget neutral for Georgia Swimming. Therefore, anticipated costs for pool rental, swimmers and coaches lodging and meals, Head Coach travel, assistant coaches and General Manager travel and stipend, as well as any other costs (guest speakers, etc) should be added up and divided by 60 (anticipated number of swimmers at camp) in order to come up with camp cost. (note: current information on those suggests camp cost for 2018 would be $150,00-$175,00/swimmer)
