2 Family Zone The Cobourg YMCA Family Zone allows parents to workout or try a new class while their kids enjoy great youth programs. Monday - Thursday 4:30-7 :30pm Saturday 9:00-11:00am Ages 3-12yrs Children get to choose from any of the three activities during Family Zone hours. Family Zone is only available for YMCA Northumberland members only. Get Creative Be Physical Find Your Zen There s a little artist in each child waiting for an opportunity to express themselves. Children will have tons of fun in a variety of art and drama activities. For the child who is interested in all sports and challenging team building initiatives. Emphasis will be placed on fun and fair play. Kick back at the end of the day and enjoy reading a book, playing board games or listening to music with friends. Note: A parent or guardian must be in the building while kids are participating in Family Zone. Children can be dropped off anytime during family zone hours with staff at PlayCentre.

Programs that take place on Monday and Wednesday are 13 weeks in length. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday programs will be 14 weeks in length. You can register anytime throughout the session. Fees are prorated. Cooking Get your aprons ready and join us to learn the art of cooking! Prepare and taste a variety of simple recipes, make a recipe book, and practice kitchen and food safety skills. If your child has a passion for exploring and experimenting, they ll have an outstanding time exploring the silly side of science. Creative crafts, musical instruments and artistic experimentation. This program incorporates different versions such as king s court, elimination, survivor dodgeball and many more. Bring a water bottle. Ages 7-9 Ages Sportball Introduce children to the fundamental concepts and skills behind ball sports: baseball, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, rugby, soccer, volleyball and more. Each week participants will learn the skills of a new sport and then take part in a game at the end of each night. 4 Fall 2018 Youth Program Guide Youth Programs Train like a Ninja Classes focus on the ABC s of being a ninja: Agility, Balance, and Coordination. Each week, we teach new obstacles and ninja skills! Ages 3-5 Ages 6-8 Ages 9-12 H20 Extreme This program is pure fun! Children will have the opportunity to learn pool based sports and games such as water polo, underwater hockey, survival games and more. Participants must be able to complete the swim test. Ages 8-12 Teen Conditioning This class is a non-sport specific strength and conditioning class designed to improve balance, strength, agility, speed and endurance. Ages 10+ Leaders in Training Wednesday 4:30-5:30pm (Gym) Friday 5:30-6:30pm (Gym) Leaders in Training (LIT) is an introductory leadership program designed to develop teens skill levels in the areas of situational leadership, communication, and teamwork, and to enhance participants self-esteem through games, initiative tasks, special projects, and volunteer placements. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in special events. Ages 9-12 Y-Nights CYOA Ages 6-9 (Choose your own adventure) Youth Night - Ages Teen Night - Ages Parents Night Out M Monday 6:30-8:00pm Come with your friends and choose your adventure. Swim in the pool, make crafts, get active in the gym, relax with a movie. Registration required. Friday 6:30-9:00pm YMCA Youth Night provides an opportunity for youth age to participate in various activities in all facility areas. Activities may include recreational sports, swimming, conditioning, and fitness or dance classes. Appropriate workout attire and footwear required. The swim team builds self-esteem, confidence, sportsmanship and a strong sense of team. Our coaches will work on improving endurance while improving swimming skills. With a focus on teamwork and healthy competition, our program offers opportunities to participate in fun, friendly competitions with other swimmers. Prerequisite: 6 years old, swim 25 m Tuesday 6:00-7:00pm Thursday 6:00-7:00pm Non-members: $255 ($130 one day per week) First Aid & Lifeguard Training BRONZE MEDALLION WITH EMERGENCY FIRST AID Oct 26 Nov 2-5:00-9:00pm Oct 27 & 28 Nov 3 & 4-10:00-5:00pm Members $160 Non-Members $220 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course is the first step on the path to lifeguarding. It teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue educationjudgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates receive certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR B. Prerequisite: Candidates must be 13 years of age or have a current Bronze Star certification. 100% attendance is required. BRONZE CROSS Oct 26 Nov 2-5:00-9:00pm Oct 27 & 28 Nov 3 & 4-10:00-5:00pm Members $95 Non-Members $135 Location: Cobourg YMCA This course is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard Award. The course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of a more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in an aquatics facility. Other topics include lifesaving vs. lifeguarding, teamwork and rescues, and management of spinal injuries. Prerequisites: Candidates must be 13 years of age and Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid (needs not to be current). 100% attendance is required. BRONZE MEDALLION/BRONZE CROSS WITH EMERGENCY FIRST AID Oct 26 Nov 2-5:00-9:00pm Oct 27 & 28 Nov 3 & 4-10:00-5:00pm Members $230 Non-Members $310 Location: Cbourg YMCA This course is an opportunity for participants to complete both Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. Prerequisite: Candidates must be 13 years of age. 100% attendance is required. Junior Lifeguard Club Junior Lifeguard club offers serious fun for kids eight years and up who can swim at least 25 meters and tread water for two minutes. Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water. Our mission is to provide participants with the training and education so they can become one of the elite lifeguards at the YMCA. Prerequisite: 8 years old, tread for 2 min, swim 25 m Tuesday 7:00-8:00pm Thursday 7:00-8:00pm Non-members: $255 ($130 one day per week) NATIONAL LIFEGUARD Nov and Nov 30/Dec1-2 Fri 5:00-9:00pm Sat/Sun 9:00am-5:00pm Members $325 Non-Members $375 Location: Cbourg YMCA This is a lifesaving course that develops a sound understanding of the lifeguarding principles, good judgment and mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard s roles and responsibilities. It is a nationally recognized lifeguarding award. Prerequisite: Candidates must be 16 years of age by the course end date, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid. 100% attendance is required. STANDARD FIRST AID - CPR C/AED Weekend Courses September 22 & 23 November 17 & 18 December 15 & 16 Saturday and Sunday 9-5pm Full Course - Members $130 Non-Members $150 Recert - Members $75 Non-Members $90 Location: Cbourg YMCA Standard First Aid/CPR-C/AED) provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. STANDARD FIRST AID - CPR C/AED Recertification Courses September 23 November 18 December 16 Sunday 9-5pm Members $75 Non-Members $90 Location: Cbourg YMCA Recertification held on the Sunday. Prerequisites: Must hold a current SFA certification. Participants must bring their current Standard First Aid Certificate.

9 OUR SWIM LEVELS Splasher/Bubbler (6mo-3yrs) Caregiver assisting child program to develop comfort in the water, familiarity to environment and to promote water fun. Starfish/Duck/Sea Turtle Bobber (3-5yrs) Gaining comfort in the water, blowing bubbles with gradual facial immersion, front & back floats with assistance. Sea Otter Floater (3-5yrs) Must be comfortable entering and exiting the pool on their own, as well as putting their face in the water. To complete: child must be able to float on their front and back and swim 5m unassisted. Salamander Glider (3-5yrs) Must be able to float, swim 5m unassisted in shallow water. Must be comfortable beginning the transition from shallow to deep water with assistance. Sunfish Diver (3-5yrs) Comfort in deep water. To complete: 10m back and front swim with leg and arm action, as well as front and back float in deep water. Crocodile Surfer/Dipper (3-5yrs) Surfer Surface support for 30sec, front and back swim with arm action and flutter kick up to 15m, side breathing, face in with buoyant aid. Dipper Front and back swim 25m, intro to front and back crawl, standing dive, and surface support for 45 seconds. Whale Otter (6 yrs+) This level is for beginner swimmers. To complete: submerge, holding breath, front and back float unassisted, front and back swim 5m. Swim Kids 1 Seal (6 yrs+) Deep end activities on a more regular basis. Build endurance and stamina to proceed onto length swimming. To complete: surface support 20sec; front and back float in deep water unassisted; front and back swim 10m. Swim Kids 2 Dolphin (6 yrs+) Build endurance and stamina for length swimming and instruction. To complete: tread in deep water 45sec, front glide with kick, face in, sidebreathing 15m, front and back swim with arm and leg action 15m. Jump into deep water and swim 15m. Swim Kids 3 (6 yrs+) Introduction to length swimming. To complete: initial standard front crawl 25m; back swim 25m; tread water 60sec; jump into deep water and swim 50m. Swim Kids 4 Star 1 Star 2 Star 3 Star 4 Star 5 Star 6 Star 7 To complete: front crawl intermediate standard; back crawl initial standard; tread water 90sec; endurance swim of 75m. Swim Kids 5 To complete: front crawl advanced standard; back crawl intermediate standard; elementary backstroke initial standard; endurance swim 350m (14 lengths) throughout program; tread water 2min. Swim Kids 6 To complete: back crawl advanced standard; elementary backstroke intermediate standard; breast stroke initial standard; endurance swim 300m (12 lengths). Swim Kids 7 To complete: recognition and care for an obstructed, conscious victim; eggbeater kick 60sec; elementary backstroke 50m advanced standard, breast stroke 50m intermediate standard. Endurance swim 400m (16 lengths). Swim Kids 8 To complete: swim 200m in under 6min; eggbeater kick 2min; breast stroke 50m advanced standard; sidestroke 25m initial standard; endurance swim 500m (20 lengths). Swim Kids 9 To complete: rescue unconscious victim with obstructed airway; sidestroke 50m intermediate standard; butterfly stroke 25m initial standard; endurance swim 600m(24 lengths); help teach a swim skill. Swim Kids 10 To complete: recognition and care for bone/joint injuries; respiratory distress and asthma/anaphylaxis; create and deliver 3 fun activities for a stroke/ skill; 400m swim in under 12min.

Please review our aquatic guidlines to help YMCA Northumberland maintain the safety of all members, guests and staff. 0-5yrs Children 0-5 years must be accompanied in the water with a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children regardless if they are able to pass the facility swim test or not. 6-9yrs Children 6-9 years of age who have not passed the facility swim test must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children. If the children are wearing lifejackets the ratio may increase to 1 guardian to 4 children. 6-9yrs Children 6-9 years of age who can pass the facility swim test may swim on their own provided a parent or guardian(16yrs+)is supervising them from the pool deck. Adults may supervise a maximum of 4 children. 10yrs + Individuals 10+ years of age who are not able to pass the facility swimming test will be directed to swim in the pool area appropriate to their abilities. Facility Swim Test The following skills must be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the YMCA lifeguard on duty to complete the facility swim test: Jump into deep water *Participants of any age may be asked to perform the swim test. Surface support 1 min Swim length of the pool
