1 Youth Programs Adult Programs Sears I Can Swim Ages 6-12 years A revolutionary new learn-to-swim program supported by Swimming/Natation Canada. The Sears I Can Swim program teaches swimmers a speedswimming style stroke in a fun, enthusiastic and caring atmosphere. Classes are grouped according to swimming ability and are individually tailored to help swimmers achieve and progress according to their strengths and challenges. Successes are rewarded as they are achieved (versus complete or incomplete at the end of the program), helping to keep swimmer s confidence high. Each swimmer receives a chart and stickers to monitor their progress at home and a passport for tracking their progress with each instructor. Sears I Can Swim 2 (45 Minutes) Skill Development builds on the skills in stage one and focuses on the basic movements and orientation ability for swimming strokes, such as arm action, sculling and breathing. Treading water and basic dives are also covered. Sears I Can Swim 3 (45 Minutes) Skill Improvement Builds on the skills in stage two. Involves improving all four strokes, improving reaction/rhythm abilities and increasing endurance. More advanced dives and basic turns are also covered. Check our Lesson Schedules for dates, times and prices Sears I Can Swim 1 (30 Minutes) Water Orientation Beginner and Intermediate Classes. Establishes a sound basis for the later acquisition of swimming skills. Water orientation consists of a combination of five skills: entry and immersion, buoyancy and floatation, submersion and breath control, movement in the water and propulsion through the water. 19
2 Youth Programs The Canadian Swim Patrol Ages 8-12 years Recommended for participants who can comfortably swim 50m. Swim Patrol is a 3 level (Rookie Patrol, Ranger Patrol, Star Patrol) pre- Bronze award progression that delivers work hard / play hard training for skilled swimmers. Swim Patrol levels form a pre-bronze progression of enriched training for young swimmers who are ready to go beyond Learn to Swim. Swim Patrol is designed to be challenging but achievable with effort. Because content is organized in modules (water proficiency, first aid, recognition & rescue), participants can work on content appropriate for their ability no matter which level they are enrolled in. Bronze Star Ages 12+ years Recommended pre-requisites: Ability to swim 100m (4 lengths), Swim Patrol Bronze Star is designed to deliver high performance training for skilled pre-teens. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and with partners. They also learn CPR and develop Water Smart confidence and the lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard. Bronze Star is the new first level of the Bronze family and is a great training standard providing excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 11:30 am December classes / $66.00 Rookie Patrol features timed 100m swims, 350m workouts and swims with clothes. A work hard / play hard approach develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on personal responsibility for Water Smart behavior. Star Patrol features timed 300m swims, 600m workouts, lifeguard whistle signals, and airway and bleeding first aid priorities. Demands good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. Ranger Patrol features timed 200m swims, 100m fitness medley and support / carry a 5lb weight. Content is challenging but achievable with effort. Skill drills enhance capability in the water including a non-contact rescue. 20

4 Aquafit Combo Aqua Participants will experience the variety and benefits of both deep and shallow water workouts during this combination class. Fitness Classes in the Pool! Escape from the pressures of gravity and surround yourself in soothing water. Water provides buoyancy to reduce impact and resistance to increase intensity, which means Aquafit and Aquajogging are a challenging exercise alternative for anyone from the tentative beginner to the elite athlete. Aquafit Water Fitness to music! Classes are 50 minutes in duration Deep Aqua This class takes place in the deep end of the pool. Each participant wears a floatation belt to increase buoyancy and focus on the exercises. This workout is completely without impact, provides a good cardiovascular workout and is ideal for injury prevention and rehabilitation. Shallow Aqua This class takes place in the shallow end of the pool. The resistance of the water is utilized to elevate heart rate and increase muscular endurance. Impact is reduced by 71% when exercise is performed in chest-deep water. Aquajogging Classes are 45 minutes in duration A fun, deep-water workout technique that uses tethering for added resistance. This unique program is an excellent cross training activity which improves fitness without impact, enhances cardiovascular function, muscle endurance, strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, agility, power and speed.
